Finally I saw it, 38 years later . At first I was disappointed by the slowness of the action, but the crawling over the hill was quite suspenseful . The drifting down the rapids quite sad after all the efforts, but the ending quite elating .
The real credit for the feat goes to Herzog for really having the ship taken over the hill .
From reading some accounts of the filming, I wonder how anyone could work with either the director or Klaus Kinski . That merits prizes in itself .
I do not regret watching this draggy, outdated film .

This rates a -5 stars for the depressing effect of the story .
I do not write much reviews because i am not very eloquent nor elaborate, but i must write a warning about this film . i did not really know what to expect exactly, but expecting more of a comic action like the preceding episodes .
oops ! major oops ! this is a sad, depressing psychological story . the writer/director who did this story are sick, twisted, depressing minds .
i did sit thru the whole movie, always expecting that the story would turn positive, enlightening, entertaining . waste of my time .
joaquin phoenix acting is superb despite the negative impression i got from the story .
so the warning is : take some anti-depressants before going to see this movie .

I watched this for the second time throughout, still mesmerized by the action, the suspense and the emotion of the characters . i am sure that the film is much cleaner than the reality in the theater of a conflict, no smell, no heat, no humidity, no real screams and crying, yet it is poignant . since archer became somewhat human, it would have been nice to imagine him meeting maddy in the end .

Dont let the title mislead you : this is not a comedy, but more like a documentary of the war zone in afghanistan . and my opinion is : wtf are we doing over there if not for the profit of the military-industrial complex, wasting lives of our soldiers and locals .

Wtf (if the expression is allowed) : this plot is so devious, distressing , saddening, turning into a totally emotionally negative ending that i regret watching it .
but i must admit that the suspense and the scenario were spell-binding, to explain my rating .
one other point : i watched the film thinking the whole time that lou diamond phillips was the actor . this support my theory the the show-biz industry recycles over and over successful facial features .

I was expecting a low class production, but i loved it . suspenseful, beautiful scenery, good acting, good direction . location in new mexico, a bit off the wall, off the beaten path really, not very meshing with the rest of the scenario . and the commercial flop probably happened because no investor wanted to risk promoting it . too bad because i think it was worth the watching .

This is a very cheap remake of the 'billy jack' story line . violence/no violence but the direction does not know on which foot to dance . i may be wrong but it seems to me that most bikes are not from the right period . some riders do not even look like adept bike riders . and the female actresses do not even wear correct period bras . very very cheaply made . and so unrealistic . thrice does the character use his own service weapons for killings . gosh ! how low can it get ? wasted my time .

Loved it . one sequel that didnt destroy the memory of the first episode . and building up the hope for another sequel, hopefully that will be handled masterly as this one . pretty soon my heart will be too old to handle the suspense, action and violence . but delightfully !

At first i really really like the music, the pace and i thought it was going to wash away the raunchy memory of the 1976 version, where the immense ego of one and the famed personality of the other actor overwhelmed the story .
i did not know bradley cooper before this role so i thought he was a good match for lady gaga, and an offset to her personality . then, it became draggy and boring . an alcoholic performer is a pitiful sight but becomes really annoying when the misery is stretched for too long, especially when i came for entertainment, not sufferance . his ending puts a totally depressing note in an entertaining feature .
lady gaga was good in her early role as a performer, but as she rises in fame, she becomes lady gaga herself and rivals the immense ego of barbara streisand in the earlier version .
after the wedding, the movie becomes draggy and boring . it should have been edited to last under 2 hours but was stretched way too long . i can understand why it failed so soon from the premium theaters to be relegated to the cheaper venues . waste of my time . and i hadn't seen so many people leave the theater during the show in a long time .
if a little bit of the dirty, funny business behind the scenes like in the 'rock star' (mark wahlberg, 2001) had been used, it may have spiked the action, fun, interest into the movie .

Once again, a movie categorized as dark comedy western, turning out as a sentimental, emotional story, does not appeal the the hardcore western viewers . that does not make the movie less good, but it may have caused the box office bomb .
the story deals with the emotional relationships of the characters, to such a point that i thought the lengthy face shots of Morris and Warm were the lead into a gay relationship . we are just left guessing .
otherwise, it is a very good mix of sentimentality and violent action . beautiful scenery shots .

It seemed it was going to be an action packed movie, starting with an escape from san quentin, no less . it turned out to be a draggy sentimental story with the emotional interaction of the characters involved . i loved the movie, the satisfaction of getting away with illegal behavior, and i can handle a sentimental story, even a draggy one . and we barely get quickie clips of those escapes .
when are marketeers going to learn that misrepresenting a product never works ? once the word gets around, and quickly these days of instant communication, thus earning a B+ rating from many critics . but i still liked it, robert redford is irreplaceable, good acting, good direction, good humour, beautiful photography .

Well done . sometimes a bit dragging, sometimes too quick to the next scene for editing constraints, i suppose . prehistoric ? it looks more like native americans transposed in the remote past . idk if there was so much sophistication in that far past (well, it does not state in which period) . very nice prehistorical animals cga . the story is totally fantastical, highly improbable . lots of suspense and drama . a sweet story about a boy and his dog wtshtf and wbtshof ('when the s*** hits their fan' and 'way before the s*** hits our fan' 😉 ) .

what a waste of my time and money

Once in a while, i must remind myself how bad something really is, how much i dislike something . so i went to suffer thru this episode . here it starts : the cargo bay of a C-17 pressurized ?? puleez ! and the list goes on . vehicular chases are sped up so much that it is hard to see what is going on . and those incredible moment of imminent dangers without showing how the actor gets out of it is totally frustrating, cg being already grossly unrealistic .
