The Killer (2023)

Different, yet predictable and stupid

When it comes to movies that feature hitmen I always wonder whether the director thinks his audience is stupid. Why do hitmen always do stuff that no professional killer would do? For instance, in this movie:

• He stand for hours in front of a window waiting for his target to arrive, people can see him constantly
• He drives a big fat car in the Dominican yet he narrates to be not standing out and quiet
• He listens to music when he needs to make the shot, what if someone behind him comes in (this actually happened before)
• He gets rid of phones but stamping on them but never checks whether they are really dead
• He doesn't always wear gloves when holding guns that he uses
• In the end he shows his face to 4 waiters in the restaurant
• He sleeps in his car in front of his targets house, wtf
• He exhibits all his passports and guns while two cleaning people are cleaning up the mess in his house (where was the police btw in this whole blood-covered adventure that took place in his house?)

All of this would have been ok, if: he DIDN'T say throughout the movie how professional he is and what things to be careful of etc. Really are we considered stupid??

Besides that, I thought the acting was quite good, storyline ok, kind of exciting, ending sort of unexpected but also a bit weird considering the guy saw him and even spoke with him.

@all directors out there, stop taking your audience for stupid, we are not.

Uncut Gems (2019)

Second time IMDB let me down

So when I saw this title on Netflix I was not planning on watching it, since it has Adam Sandler as the lead actor and that is usually a guarantee for a very mediocre/lame movie/ However, IMDB told me that this movie is rated 7,4/10 I literally told myself 'come on man, give Adam another chance, be open-minded!' So I started watching and waited, waited until it would get somewhere near acceptable or even good, maybe.

However, the movie is not good at all. The acting first of all, is of a very low quality. Adam Sandler is as always doing his weird accents (here he is pretending to be Jewish), but never very convincing, like Nicholas Cage for instance, not a great actor as well but at least he gets the accents. Other actors are just very big nobodies, you never get to know anything about them, they never develop.

Then there is the length; it is way too long to tell a story of this low quality and depth.

The most annoying thing is probably the sound. First I thought it was my old TV, but actually it's the movie I found out when I watched it on my laptop. There is always a very annoying sort of 'soundtrack' in the background. Then there is the constant yelling and loud talking in almost every scene; people trying to talk over eachother all the time and it gets very messy and chaotic because of that.

All in all, maximum 4 stars this one. What a joke. And I am really really wondering how this got an 7.4 on IMDB. You guys let me down man.

For those curious about the first time IMDB let me down in terms of rating: The rating for 'Gifted Hands' is way, way, but really, way too high.

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

Great visuals, story could be better

So the visual performance was great, even though not a lot better than the 1st movie, but there you go.

The storyline however was very thin, characters did not evolve much and ran into the same mistakes like seven times ("I will deal with my boy after he did the same thing wrong six times in one month"). Some plot turns were completely random: the whales suddenly have a magical substance which can be sold for a lot of money (okay interesting, new, heard nothing about that before but after the news is published nothing is to be heard anymore about this plot twist, wtf?).

Honestly, quite dissapointing. I expected more.
