Inside Man (2006)
Half a good crime caper half a big disappointment
The film starts well but all too soon starts to show flash forwards which tell you that no one is going to get hurt, the villain will get away with the bank robbery.
The film has not quite enough momentum to carry the viewer through to the end without beginning to question the implausibility of the plot. So though at first it it is good to watch, one eventually longs for it to cut to the end. Best seen it on TV so that one can fast forward through the repetitious sequences.
At the end it is never clear why Jodie Foster character was in the film ( except to give her a salary) or how Chris Plummer could have been a general during World War 2 and then still be running a bank in the year 2000.
There are too many lose ends so that after the end the viewers ask themselves how it was supposed to end. A good film for boy scouts.
Worth watching once if there is nothing better to see but will not bear viewing twice
Avenger (2006)
A good start and great scenery but the plot is unreal
The idea of a retired Vietnam veteran becoming an avenger for reward, provided the targets are bad enough is often successful. However there is often a problem in winding the story up.
In this case though the plot starts well with villainy in Bosnia deserving punishment and leads to the Avenger making some interesting voyages and the encounter of colourful underworld characters the plot kind of vanishes with the involvement of stereo type crooked Congressmen and CIA or FBI agents. In the end the Avenger finds his man but then conclusion leaves so many loose ends to th rest of the story that the viewer is bound to feel let down.
A disappointing film not really worth watching.
Before Sunset (2004)
Does not stand alone only of interest to viewers of After sunrise
Rather disappointing sequel. The plot is so weak that the actors, though talented, are not attractive enough to carry the whole weight of a 90 minute movie. There are just these two actors carrying the plot, only tiny glimpses of other characters.
Technically the two talking heads are often clearly screened against background film like an old Hollywood movie with actors in a car.
Worth watching if you saw the first movie but otherwise not something for a new viewer to watch.
Don't buy it, record on TV and the you can fast forward through the many dull dialogues and enjoy the Parisian scenery
