Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton's Charisma Cannot Outrun a Lackluster Script in 'The Flash' (2023)
I'm disappointed to share such a lukewarm review to a film that held such high expectations - "The Flash" (2023). As an ardent fan of the source material, I walked into the theatre with an eager anticipation for the scarlet speedster's standalone outing. Despite the undeniable efforts of Ezra Miller and the electric presence of Michael Keaton, the film stumbles over its own shoelaces, failing to live up to its immense potential.
Miller, reprising his role as Barry Allen, proves his mettle as a leading man, carrying his scenes with a good balance of humor and gravitas. Keaton, donning the cape as Batman yet again, is a welcome sight, delivering a performance that echoes his storied legacy in the franchise. The film does have its fanfare moments - a few cool cameos which will bring smiles to the faces of true DC fans.
However, the film suffers an identity crisis. The Flash, unfortunately, ends up feeling like a sidekick in his own movie. The narrative, overly focused on Superman's Zod storyline and the world of Keaton's Batman, robs our titular hero of the spotlight he so deserves. The plot feels rushed, lacking a compelling villain, a substantial romance, or intricate backstories to lend depth to the characters.
Regrettably, "The Flash" (2023) seems to be the latest casualty of the DC Extended Universe's ongoing struggle to find its footing. It's disheartening to see such beloved source material fall prey to the whims of filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. For our group, this might be the last DC movie we invest in, as the 6 out of 10 rating can only commend the effort and the promise of what could have been.
In the end, while the Flash may be the fastest man alive, it seems this film couldn't speed away from its inherent narrative shortcomings.
Babel (2006)
The Emperor's New Clothes
highly overrated film. far too many films have done a better job at this genre than I could mention. brad Pitt's poorest performance to date (and I do think this guy can act). wasteful, pointless, almost self-mocking scenes trying to pass as art.
Gael García Bernal, Rinko Kikuchi, Kôji Yakusho are good and actually most of the Japanese story line is interesting (although the end remains lacking)
Nice cinematography, music and general "feel" at certain moments do not make/save a film.
with all the anticipation this movie has generated, I personally find it to be a great letdown.
Hope you will like it better ;-)
Invasion (2005)
Got to love it ! ****1/5 out of *****
Truly one of the best new sci-fi shows that i have seen ! the stunning Kari Matchett excels as Dr. Mariel Underlay, accompanied by Eddie Cibrian (Jimmy Doherty from Third watch) in a gr8 role and William Fichtner (who at last gets a role that does him justice as Sheriff Tom Underlay)..
the plot moves a little bit slowly in the first few episodes but then gets a boost that keeps you on the edge of your sit ! i was surprised that the first comment dealt only with that fact(which is only half true and only relevant to the first few episodes, and is nothing like Carnivàle !!)
I really hope Invasion is here to stay as it is a great show in a swamp of mediocre TV shows and reality leftover sequel shows...
i give it 4.5 out of five
