My Friend Dahmer (2017)
Not worth anyone's time
I had been really curious about this movie for a long time. I have always been interested in true crime, but don't look into it as it just upsets me. A movie is a good form for me to learn about things as I don't have to do the research myself! But I didnt learn anything.
I would say this movie is more for people who already know a lot about Dahmer. Because I don't, it felt as I was just watching a guy who was slightly weird walking about. The ending was awful, because it just assumes you know what happens after. A few words telling you what does has a bad effect, unlike if we saw the murder.
Throughout the movie, Dahmer almost murders many times. The fact he doesn't builds tension, but the film should lead to an actual murder. I just felt dumb watching a movie about a serial killer to see no deaths, only some roadkill.
I also didn't know if I was supposed to like him or not. Obviously I'm not, as he's a horrible horrible person. But the way they presented him was as if to trigger sympathy. They showed his troubled family life and lack of friends and how he was taken advantage of. Because they didn't show him doing a horrible act, you do just end up feeling sorry for him. I know I definitely didn't want to!!!
It was a good looking movie, and Lynch's performance was amazing. Sadly that is not enough to make a movie actually entertaining. I haven't learnt anything more about Dahmer; movies about these terrible people should be educational, not character studies. I hate that I feel bad for him.
Dead Pixels (2019)
some of you are too harsh, but justified
Usually, when I really enjoy or hate something I check the reviews to see if people are agreeing with me. Shocked to see so many people not liking this! I'm not shocked at the little amount of reviews for this, though. Marketing was terrible and only saw it once all episodes were released as it was on my all4!
Now, I'm not a gamer and I've never seen "the guild" so i can't speak on whether it's a blatant rip off or if it's just a similar premise.
I agree with some points people are saying like dialogue issues, but I don't think it's very clunky too often. I was a big fan of fresh meat and I have watched it twice, so for me It was really enjoyable seeing the different style back again!
I could be nitpicky and wonder why the sex noises sounded like a washing machine door closing or why they never got fired from work, but at the same time who cares about that?? I don't want a work subplot! Give me Kingdom scrolls banter!!
I also agree that Meg being really sexual was a bit odd sometimes, but I do feel that's a common theme in shows like this. I've never heard anyone say the word "nubbin" before and I was confused everytime she said it. It was very odd.
But I am a sucker for romance!!!! I did not expect there to be an underlying romance plot and I was very pleased once it was hinted at. I really hope there is a series two so we can see how this develops! Their relationship was really cute and i gotta see it happen.
I think Nicky was a really cute character and even though when the characters got angry and it seemed a bit off, you can actually imagine it and see someone acting like this. Though, that scene with Meg at the bus stop was mega weird. But- could still see it really happening. I did enjoy the character of Meg, but I feel she's much suited to other roles like when she played Aretha in "raised by wolves" (by the way, go watch it. It's amazing. And also, overly sexual sometimes. )
Of course, Usmund was a hit with the audience. He was charming while also being a terrible, terrible father. I hated the kids' voices though. Were they said by a middle aged woman?? Russel was funny, albeit being annoying as hell. Though, that was his character!
This show is a bit of a hit or miss for people and for me I really enjoyed it. There's no harm in trying anyway, as the episodes are only 23 minutes!! Go check it out :)
Ps- that scene where you find out their rooms are right next to eachother is the best thing I've ever seen. Seriously.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Bird poo more like
I'm so confused on what I even watched. Its been on iplayer for a while and I thought i should check it out due to all its awards and nominations.
Biggest waste of time! Now, I can't lie and say the whole one take gimmick was bad, but it was still there for no particular reason. In oldboy, you see the necessity. For this it was impressive, but more like "hey look at me i can do a long shot." It had no purpose and because of it being heavily appreciated, it made me look out more for when a cut was instead of watching the actual movie.
What confused me most was the relationships. Reggan seemed to be in 15, and I was unsure of who was who. His daughter then sleeps with that unprofessional guy and nothing comes from it. He has an ex wife that still loves him even though he cheated. He has a girlfriend who's not his girlfriend who's pregnant then isn't. I'm not sure!!
I liked his powers, but they were confusing. It wasnt solid if he actually had them, which I liked. But then, after he flies, we see him land and then a cab driver asks for him to pay. This tells us he's imagining it, but that's the only instance. I'm fine with mystery, but that one scene tells us it's all made up for no reason!
Seeming the plot was boring and had no purpose, I have a better ending that I can say because it doesn't even matter that it has no meaning.
Once he gets up and goes to the bathroom, he removes his bandages, just like the actual movie. But this time something is different. He sees his new nose. It's a beak. Pan to birdman on the toilet next to him. He says one word:
"Nice."
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Mystery of love? More like mystery of why this has 8/10
Why does everybody love this movie? This movie wasted two hours of my life and though I usually waste whole days of my life this has ANGERED ME BEYOND LIMITS.
Firstly, the positives. It looks pretty and I like the last song. Now on to EVERYTHING I HATED.
What the hell was that transition song? We would watch a whole 2 minute clip of them cycling away with no music but as soon as elio was walking from one point to the other they would play the song for like two seconds. It doesn't fit at all! It wouldn't fit in any movie it's so strange.
What confused me most was when Elio was admitting he liked Armies character (don't even remember his name? Oliver?). It came out of nowhere and I didn't even know what was happening. Then they started being romantic and it was like WHAT???? Elio was trying to AVOID armie but then suddenly loves him? And the age difference is whack.
Why didn't this movie come with subtitles? Half the people speak multiple languages and I couldn't even tell if I was listening to French, Italian or German by the end. Obviously I don't want subtitles throughout the whole film, but I had to keep clicking them on and off just to understand the plot. It's not that hard to have them come with the film. It's like mr beans holiday, WHY DOESNT THAT HAVE AUTOMATIC SUBTITLES???
The peach scene... Yes its iconic but what the hell. Elio stars crying for no reason? He acts like he has a childhood history of being abused and that's why he cries when fighting Armie. WHO UNDERSTANDS THIS???
And the ending with the Dad... When he said "I wish I had done that when I was younger" or something similar, Elio replies with "does mum know?" I thought that Dad was coming out as gay, but apparently not.
A movie should only be two hours if it needs two hours and this easily could be a twenty minute short film. The ending made the whole two hours feel useless and OF COURSE the gays get the bad ending once again. "It's true to real life" uh yeah in the 80's? I don't care about their dumb asses I just want a happy ending and a PROPER STORY. This movie is completely useless.
