Journey (2012)
Everything a game should be...
Like Shadow of the Colossus, this is a game I knew I would love long before I actually played it, and those high expectations were met. I was very familiar with the soundtrack, and consider Austin Wintory to be one of the best composers working today, but I'm glad to finally see what the music was intended to go with. I believe that the best media are the ones that give you a wide array of emotions, this being a great example. It shifts between awe, excitement, fear, and sadness. It really draws you in, I had to pee when I started playing and held it for almost the entire duration of 4 hours. It looks gorgeous, the game is almost 7 years old and it has aged amazingly. It looks it's best at sunset, with the light glittering off the sand. I won't try to spoil too much, but I love the games approach to multiplayer, and my experience with it is noteworthy. The climax of the game is your character climbing the mountain, and it is very tedious and imposing, but when I suddenly had another player appear beside me, going through the same struggle as I am, it created a genuine sense of attachment to someone who was completely anonymous. Little experiences like that, especially ones unique to the video game medium, are what I think truly makes a great game. My only issue is that I wished it was longer, like everyone else. Hopefully the team could expand it a little in the future through DLC or a re-release.

If God made a Movie...
The only way to experience this is with others. If you feel the need to strengthen your relationship with someone, this is a great film to watch together. Ideally, the presence of "substances" is recommended however since I am not of legal drinking age at the time of me writing this review, that will have to be something to look forward to in the future. Also do not watch the English dub, it removes a mandatory layer of hilarity if you watch it in Mandarin. Even if you are squeamish about gore, it's so laughably fake that I would find it hard to believe someone to get genuinely disturbed by it. Oh yeah, the whole thing is on YouTube so you have no excuse.
Shadow of the Colossus (2018)
A Flawed Masterpiece
Note: This is a review of the recent PS4 remaster.
SotC is a game I've been wanting to play for years, and was ecstatic to play it on the PS4. The team who restored the game obviously had a deep passion for the original. The graphics of the game are (with the exception of some of the character models) are on par with most triple-A titles of today. However, in terms of aesthetics, I felt a that the highly polished graphics seemed somewhat inferior to the previous PS3 version. For example, in the final colossus fight in the PS3, he is covered in shadow and fog, obscuring his features making him much more frightening and mythical in appearance. In the remaster, you can see every little bit of masonry on his face, removing the mystical haze present in the original titles. The world and environment seem so much more clearer, but at the cost of a dreamlike atmosphere of the limited graphics of the PS3. That's obviously subjective, but I think it does affect the game in terms of emotional response.
The biggest issue is the gameplay. Obviously, the game had to be in 3rd-person, otherwise you would spend 95% of the game staring all colossus fur. But the camera was just as an opponent as the colossi themselves. Back to the final colossus fight, you have to make perfectly timed jumps, and the camera makes it very difficult to properly judge distance, leaving you to take a leap of faith. The mechanic of holding the right trigger to hold onto the colossus is great, especially in the Avalon fight, it really makes you feel like you are holding on to dear life. Another irritating thing about the controls is Agro. When you get him to run as fast as he can, he slows down if you turn. This is really frustrating in the Dirge fight, because you have to constantly mash the button to get him to run as well as firing your bow. This little mechanic really makes riding Agro difficult. My biggest gripe with the gameplay is during the Celosia battle, when he rams into you, you are on the ground for a solid ten seconds. That is an eternity in a boss battle, and basically is instant death. You are just laying on the ground for a logn ass time, and the boss is just waiting for you to get up so it can charge into you again. I had to just let it kill me at least twice because there was no other way to get up then just starting the battle over again.
But all that said, besides the occasionally frustrating gameplay, the game is pretty much perfect. From the designs of the colossi, the simple yet emotionally effective story, to the beautiful score by Kow Otani, it earns it status as a major achievement in video game history.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Stop
If I were to say the biggest problem with this movie and its cult following (cult is a pretty accurate description of their behavior) is that this movie may be the most self-indulgent blockbuster ever made. It has Christ imagery that would make the Matrix look subtle by comparison, and sloppily tries to explore the themes of omni-benevolence vs omni-potency. It would be clever IF Zach Snyder wasn't five feet up his own ass and had any talent outside of adapting comic books panel by panel. Because of this, people who want to use the media they consume to make themselves to appear more intelligent without actually looking for truly thought provoking films will flock to this movie and claim everyone who doesn't like it is a "brain-dead retard", something that I've actually been called just for criticizing it. There are many, MANY other problems but the movie has rightfully been torn apart by critics in those regards so I won't go into detail. But this film's (and I don't use this word lightly) pretension makes the dumb mindless schlock far more unbearable by trying to make itself meaningful in the most shallow and sloppy way I have ever seen.
