The Island (2005)
The movie was entertaining...
What can I say about his movie. Well, for one it was entertaining. I think Ewen Mcgregor did great, Scarlett J. was OK (I'm not a huge fan of her's). But overall the movie keeps you interested in what happens next as the movie unfolds. There is a but of b.s. shoveled your way though for example: Caution: Spoilers ahead...
1. The cars: Sure, you see SOME futuristic cars in this movie (one, maybe two). But for the most part the cars circulating through L.A. traffic in the year 2019 are the cars that are circulation through traffic NOW. Such as the Chrystler 300C, the dodge magnum, the Chevy SSR, HUMMER H2...I even saw a Honda Element in this movie. Some of these cars were driven by supposed "Elite ex Delta Force and SEAL operatives.... Sure, there are a few cars from the early 90's still running around today, but folks those cars are ANYTHING but mint condition. The cars previously mentioned in this movie look brand NEW!!! By that time they are 15 year old cars!!!!!!!! 2. If you look at some of the other technology in this movie believe me, I don't think it's stuff we can accomplish in the next 13 years. They are inconsistent with the overall technology and then the cars.
But overall, the movie is action pact and OK to watch....once.
When a Man Loves a Woman (1994)
What a dumb movie...
I saw this movie when it came out in theaters in 94' and I thought it was OK back then. A&E Classics was showing it last night and I started watching it from the start. I thought it would be fun to see it again since it's been over a decade. Well, it's interesting what 10 year will do to make you see things in a different light. First of all, I don't like Meg Ryan. The faces she makes annoy me. Her facial expressions get on my nerves and that constant "I know it all and you are an idiot" attitude is just too much for me. Andy Garcia I like, he's great.
But it's just things they do in the movie that made me ask myself "who does that???"....
Like the scene where they come home from their anniversary date and they're about to be intimate, when the Porsche's car alarm starts going off and she comes out with eggs and milk and starts vandalizing the car. OK people, who does that??? Then Andy Garcia just stands there like a moron and let's her JUMP ON THE CAR and smear the egg and food all over the car. WHERE ARE THE OWNERS OF THE PORSCHE?????? I would of come out with a bat and taken it to hear head a couple of times!!!! That's when I said, enough of this crap. What a stupid movie. Don't watch it unless you buy all the crap Hollywood feeds you.....
ZERO stars
Drive by (2002)
Another piece of crap by the director of "Once Upon a time in the Hood"
The theme here folks is LOW BUDGET. And it's obvious from beginning to end. For one, the title is so bland and lame ..."Drive by", sounds like the title of a movie made by high school students. What a piece of crap. Skip this movie, it's not worth your time. These people need to go back to school and re-think their career in film making. Everything seems so fake, the acting is horrible.....HORRIBLE!! This is not what Chicago street life is all about. This guy is pretending to convey his knowledge of Chicago gang life and he falls way short. I say skip this movie and go see the worst thing thats out in the silver screen which will STILL be 100 times better than this crap fest called "Drive By" how original...
Once Upon a Time in the Hood (2004)
What a piece of crap...it deserves a ZERO!
What a piece of garbage. I'm willing to put my paycheck on the fact that all these "positive" ratings so far have been from the actors or the "director" of this sorry excuse of a film. The acting is horrible. The only actor that's OK is the "Raul" guy, and his little love interest... other than that... wow, what a waste of time. Did the director absolutely HAVE to include those two idiotic sex scenes in the movie??? I'm sure he thought it would add to it, but it didn't. What's up with the chick that "gets it" in the "out house" by the train tracks? Whaaaaaat???? Or the scene where they go purchase drugs from the black dude in the ghetto...I'm sure in real life, you go pick up the drugs, then walk back to your car and then walk BACK to the building with the cash in your hand to pay, yea OK....
This movie is so below par it enters the comedy realm at best. Skip it, unless you want to have a good laugh. This is by no means a true depiction of the "street life" in Chicago. Not even close. You can just imagine how GREAT "Drive by" must be......my goodness some people really should just stick to their day jobs, and if this is their day job, maybe they should look for a career change!
