Lovely, Dark, and Deep (2023)
Need more like this
This is an amazingly shot, acted, and written movie. I have been interested in the missing 411 cases, and the phenomenon of missing people in National Parks, this movie perfect imo. It doesn't give anything away and it's so atmospheric without being too "artsy" I would highly recommend this. The story is not too far fetched the ending is perfect, this is a great example of great storytelling over CGI or rebooting, the only disappointing thing is this movie didn't get a larger release, I would love to see more films like this getting the attention they deserve. Every single thing in this movie gives me hope lol the locations direction action art department everyone did a fantastic job.
Reptile (2023)
Great Thriller that has all the right twists
It starts like a throw away who done it, but wow the acting and writing in this is superb. I have seen reviews calling it confusing... they did a great job wrapping everything up and also no spoon feeding the audience. It is based party on an unsolved cold case in Canada a realtor was stabbed to death Lindsay Buziak, the film uses a lot of the aspects of that case in the general plot. I thought Benicio and Alicia still had great chemistry even after 26 years. Timberlake and all the other support cast were very well played. The story has wonderful twists and they use paranoia is a great way in this film. You are always wondering if this comment or that action has ulterior motives behind it. I was very pleased that in my opinion they never once took the cheap or easy way out in the writing the story develops in a very satisfactory way. 10/10.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Borefest
This is the first time I have ever been bored watching an Evil Dead movie. The entire concept was lazy and boring the characters are weak the gore is just there to keep you awake. From start to finish it's pitiful. No wonder it was supposed to go straight to HBO MAX but honestly this movie isn't even worthy of a Tubi release. It's clear that Campbell, Raimi and Tapert are done with ED and that's all good it's been 40 years. 2013 at least was interesting, nerve racking and stuck to what makes Evil Dead great! You had the blue print!!!! There are 4 other movies that are very very good you could've just continued the story but no you made a mighty morphing demon zombie family and then finished it off with the main character who no one cares for saying "come get some" the only decent thing to say about this movie is the run time is only 96 min.
