The Sandman (2022)
Everything you'd expect from Netflix
Despite it being a real struggle at times, I persisted and watched season 1 all the way through. There were moments in the early episodes that left me intrigued and thinking the series was going somewhere interesting, but then it falls short and overall I found this series to be extremely disappointing. By mid season it's boring and slow, and there was no shortage of cringe moments, which makes it impossible to take this series seriously. Moreover, it becomes blatantly clear early on that this is just another Netflix series where the quality of the story was not the priority of the writers. Anyway, given that this is the quality of content they continue to produce, I'm glad I don't pay for the Netflix account.
Dave Chappelle: The Closer (2021)
Started strong, but the comedy rapidly waned.
I've long appreciated the wit behind Dave's comedy, and unlike many others, I don't mind that his acts largely centre around racial issues. But The Closer was a disappointment. It started strong with a few outrageous comments that had me laughing out loud, but the the laughs soon dried up. Unfortunately, the show seemed to shift focus from comedy to Dave needing to explain his thoughts and points of view on "controversial" societal issues that Dave was previously bold enough to joke about, namely trans issues.
By the end, the "comedy special" comes across as a somewhat desperate plea from Chappelle to the "alphabet people" to please not cancel him, after having committed the egregious sin of joking about them in his prior special. It's a sad day when even the GOAT is running scared.
Big Mouth (2017)
Going downhill, fast.
Season 1 was great, but it seems that between seasons, the success of the show has drawn in the SJW vultures that have sought to capitalise on the success of the show to spread their agenda. Such a shame, and it only gets worse with the Valentine's Day special. It's nothing but leftist ideologies - everything SJWs hold dear is covered, even toxic masculinity. As a result, the show is not even funny any more. Soon the show will flop (I'll be surprised if it survives past season 3), and when the writers are left wondering why, they need only look at themselves.
The Alienist (2018)
Stop after season 1
Season 1 was interesting, and predominantly followed the activities of Kreisler, The Alienist, as he used, and further developed, his understanding of human psychology to solve crime. In season 2, however, Kreisler and his Alienist abilities very much take a back seat to Sara as the series is more concerned with Sara's efforts as a female detective operating against the odds in a man's world. Of course, being female means that only Sara can bring to the case the woman's understanding that is imperative to solving the case. While there is some interesting character and relationship development between the lead characters, overall the second season lacks the intrigue of season 1, unfortunately.
Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan (2019)
A great ANZAC film
War films are my favourite genre and I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was great to see a story of the ANZAC's involvement in the Vietnam war. Acting was good and the story was exciting and kept me engaged and anxious. Overall a good watch that I recommend to anybody that enjoys war films or who would like to get an appreciation of what the ANZACs went through. Hard to imagine that most of these guys were age just 19 - 21.
Joker (2019)
Unexpectedly brilliant on so many levels
One the few movies I've seen recently that's a true return to great film making. Joaquin's performance is fantastic and stirred all sorts of reactions in me, from awkwardness, in response to Arthur's inappropriate laughing condition, to pity, in response to his spiral into dispair, to marvel, in response to his meteoric rise to infamy. The accompanying soundtrack complements and completes the film perfectly. A truly great origin story that is a credit to DC.
Supergirl (2015)
SuperDisappointing
If you like your TV viewing without an ideological agenda, then do not even bother with this show. Unfortunately, it's nothing but leftist, feminist nonsense.
It's always a shame when the people employed by TV studios to produce a TV show use it as an opportunity to blatantly and clumsily push their own ideologies upon society, rather than just produce an entertaining show. Do yourself a favour and pass on 'SuperFem'.
Colony (2016)
Good show! Sorry that it's cancelled.
The first couple of episodes were a bit slow, but I soon found myself very eager to know what happens next.
Refreshing that the series is absent of any sjw nonsense, which contaminates many series these days.
Just finished season 3 and am disappointed that the series has been cancelled, just as things are really heating up and the series was getting in touch with its sci-fi roots.
Upload (2020)
Good idea, but not well executed.
The premise of the series is interesting and has a lot of potential, but I found it to be quite poorly execited. There are some good jokes here and there, however, its downright corny on far too many occasions. The other major downside is the frequent PC nonsense, left-wing talking points and low-brow mocking of everything a conservative would value, from capitalism to masculinity, and many more minor instances that just detract from the ability to actually appreciate the series. It's a shame that the writers cannot simply write a series without injecting it full of ideology that polarises viewers. Then when the show gets cancelled, either after this first season or the next, they'll be dumbfounded and blame everyone but themselves.
The 7PM Project (2009)
Out of touch & finally cancelled
This series is exactly what you'd expect from a panel of presenters that think Australia ceases to exist beyond the city limits of Melbourne. The presenters are entirely out of touch with the average Australian. The show is less about discussing current events than using current events to spin a pro-leftist narrative to....well, everything. The goal of The Project is to snuff out wrongthink among those who do not harbour Melbourne-approved opinions and values. Finally cancelled. Get woke, go broke.
Nate & Jeremiah by Design (2017)
Too much talking, not enough renovating
As a new home owner I really like home renovation shows, however, I found that in this particular show, Nate and Jeremiah spend the vast majority of the time talking about the motivation for the renovations and styling than they do actually showing the renovation work. When they do show actual house renovations being done, it's played in 8x speed just to get to the next section of these guys flapping their gums.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Death by ideology.
This movie was made with an agenda, and unfortunately it wasn't to do justice to the Terminator franchise.
It's dripping with ideological agenda, from feminism to trying to highlight the plight of poor illegal aliens 'caged' at the border (or 'detainees' as the evil Government workers call them so they can sleep well at night), to mocking US citizens for stockpiling weapons on the assumption that civilisation may end, at which point said citizen will need these weapons to defend their family, and perhaps the most cringe-inducing is that our deliberately brown female protagonist certainly doesn't give birth to no man that saves the world - oh hell no, it's the age of woman power after all!
Unfortunately, the creators lacked the intelligence and capacity to pull off their agenda tactfully. What we have here is crude and blatant, in-your-face ideology that the creators want you to swallow, and that tarnishes the film.
Some of my favourite movies have female leads, such as T1, T2, Aliens, Resident Evil, Lucy, Alita Battle Angel and more; the difference is that disseminating ideology was not the motivation of the creators, and that's why they're revered by fans whereas Dark Fate will be relegated to the trash heap of film history, as yet another sequel infested with gangrenous wokeness.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Low-brow & cheesy
The first one was ok, but Double Tap failed to follow suit. Overall, it fell well short of hopes and expectations by being low-brow, cheesy, and containing too many entirely nonsensical aspects. On the latter, how any self-respecting writer could ever have thought that including a character like Madison was a good idea is beyond me. Seriously, an air-head surviving in a post-apocalyptic world while remaining pristinely clean, highly manicured and defending herself with nothing but mace? Umm, no. And don't get me started on Babylon, the gun-free hippy commune. *insert eye roll emoji*
The Witcher (2019)
Saved by Henry
The series is saved by the excellent performance by Henry as Geralt., as well as the brutal fight scenes. Otherwise I would be rating it 5/10 due to the forced diversity, which places characters that seem blatantly out of place and detracts from the series. The biggest failure is that Triss absolutely should have been a redhead. On that note, if we apply principles of the 'woke', isn't it bigoted that redheads, the rarest minority on the planet, keep getting cast with black actors?
Summary: fight scenes and Henry were good, but the series suffers due to the woke agenda nonsense, as do so many releases these days.
Men in Black II (2002)
Lame & cheesy
I rewatched this recently, in the lead up to watching MiB International, and geez it was painful. This particular addition to the franchise is one cringeworthy lame moment after another. Compared to the original MiB, which comes across as agents tackling business, the second movie is cheap and cheesy and well and truly missed the mark.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Corny with feminist nonsense
It went wrong quite early in the movie with the cheap, forced feminism nonsense. Add to that the fact that there was so much corniness and you have another franchise ruined by terrible writing with a "progressive" agenda. When will Hollywood learn. When will the studios funding these movie learn to be more discerning as to whether their chosen director is going to infest the film with their own ideological nonsense.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Another PC agenda
Have watched Greys from season 1, and had always been entertained by it, but it's gone downhill big time in the recent seasons. Like everything else that comes out of Hollywood these days, the PC agenda has now taken root within Greys Anatomy, and it's been ruined as a result. We've now stopped watching altogether. So long.
Broadchurch (2013)
Season 1 & 2 good, anti-male nonsense thereafter
The first season was very good, with great acting and an interesting dynamic between the lead characters. Things start to go downhill with second season though.
First thing you notice about the second season is a deliberately 'diverse' cast, and by the time you get to the third season the quest for diversity has gone into overdrive. It's clear that following the success of the first season, Broadchurch ended up on the radar of some people with SJW agendas.
But it gets worse- it's abundantly clear that the entire plot of the third season is attributable to the SJW agenda, but this time it's anti-male feminism. That is, while seasons 1 and 2 were about murder, season 3 changes tact entirely with the detectives chasing a rapist. Throughout the entire third season there's an underlying anti-male theme, with the words "man" and "rapist" thrown around a lot, and all men are immediately persons to be feared and wary of, and from there on its villianisation of all males. There's even a pathetic attempt to link the young boys watching porn to becoming sexual predators.
Broadchurch started off strong with season 1, but is yet another example of a good series that was progressively ruined by the SJW agenda. A quick google search of 'Broadchurch' and 'SJW' shows that many viewers noticed there same. The cancerous SJW influence is not at all surprising given that it's by BBC.
The View (1997)
Out of touch trash
This show is absolutely horrendous. Shows like this are what is splitting the American people.
Bright (2017)
Identity politics at its worst
With this movie it's as if all those involved sat around a table and decided to conjure up a plot that incorporated as many aspects of identity politics as possible, which were then transposed onto a fantasy world filled with different beings in order to drive home social hierarchy and inequality - the prime villians of course being the rich, powerful white elves. It's so derivative and is just another example of quality being compromised in pursuit of pushing political agendas upon the viewers. Go and watch 'End of Watch' instead.
Annihilation (2018)
Frustrating to watch
While the premise of the movie was good, I found myself continually frustrated watching this show in that the protagonists commit one stupid mistake after another. I cannot imagine that anybody with basic military training would do the stupid things that these characters do.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
It's gone SJW
First season was alright, but like most other TV shows these days, the second season is permeated with SJW content pushing a leftist agenda.
