Paranormal Activity (2007)
Truly frightening, a great thrilling experience.
A young couple use a digital camera and microphone to record evidence of paranormal activity in their Bedroom. enough said......
Let me start by saying that I have been very bored during the last few years of the Horror genre. I have not seen a singe original Idea or a truly Scary moment in a long time, and I love to be Scared out of my mind when I watch a horror (Thats the whole point?!?! Hey who doesn't like being scared). "Saw" was a pretty cool movie but no where near what this film does to you, watching "Paranormal Activity" I have had yet again more proof that to make an effective horror movie you need to be original, talented, and try to mentally put the audience in the same situation.
I wont reveal anything about the story or plot but I will tell you that this movie uses the same basic principles for any thrilling experience used in movies over the years, making us fear what we cant see because we don't know where it is at that moment (Jaws, Alien) it creates such Tension that you find yourself breathing hard and physically shaking. I think the best way to "enjoy" this movie is watching it for the first time without knowing that in fact it has a director or actor's, but instead knowing that you are watching actual footage of paranormal activities in an everyday American home.
I think that Hype is an issue here because most of the people that go to the theaters to watch this are already in the state of mind to expect certain things, they are watching the movie from a wrong perspective, you are expected to be scared when instead you should watch it feeling pity for the two main characters every time they are going to bed. I have waited for a long time to have this kind of movie and I am glad it came from a 10,000$ budget and a digital camcorder, it should Shame other horror movie directors in showing them that they have failed yet again in creating sometime this effective with millions of dollars.
I recommend this movie to Anyone, ANYONE!!! as long as your up for it because your in for a big scare. And don't watch this Movie ALONE.
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
Greatest Western of all Time
Oh yeah!, I just Love Spaghetti Westerns Most of All Sergio Leone's Trilogy (Per un Pugno di Dollari, Per Qualche Dollaro in più and of course Il Buono Il Brutto e Il Cattivo. But I would not rate or comment on this movie only as a Western but as a Motion Picture that is watched by generations and has a great influence on filmmakers today. I watched this film for the first time when I was 13 and I just love it more each time I watch It
Il Buono Il Brutto e Il Cattivo is different from the classic Wayne and Ford Westerns, this movie as all "Spaghetti Westers" (called like that because of their Italian Origins and filmmakers like Sergio Leone) They show the darker Uglier and dirtier side of westerns and in my opinion also a more realistic feel to how people really where during the civil war, instead of the usual Twinkle from John Waynes bright teeth, We see three men who are ten times more believable real dirty and gritty. Eli Wallach's superb acting as Tuco (The Ugly) makes him my favorite character in the movie, constantly changing facial expressions based on each situation first he is angry then he is nice, he shows the brutal and greedy side as well as the genuine and caring human side So Thumbs Up Mister Wallach. Clint Eastwood on the other hand is in his usual cool self you see in the other two movies of the No name Trilogy, Very careful on which words he uses as well as not using any words but sending a strong emotion (when he offers his cigar to the wounded man in the broken down house) that cigar makes him unique , apparently Eastwood asked Director Sergio Leone if he could stop using it in some scenes, Leone answered by saying " If you don't have the cigar, you don't have the same character."
The Screenplay is very original and leaves a lot of suspense in certain scenes, you never get bored or tired although the movie is pretty long you don't feel time passing by you are just captured by the story and cant wait to see what happens next. Of course this film would be only be half as good if it did not have Ennio Morricone's Fantastic Score which sets a perfect mood to each scene, and I am not surprised to see many songs from this scored used in so many other movies, I am surprised it took so long for the Academy Awards to recognize him by giving him an Oscar.
Overall this movie is a must see for Western Lovers and Movie Lovers in general and I am very pleased to see it in IMDb's Top ten Movies.
Favorite Quote: "You see , In this World there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns and those who dig, You dig!."
Detroit Rock City (1999)
Detroit Rock City ?............. Awesome !!!
This movie was great, funny, cool, realistic and entertaining The Story of four teens who play in a KISS cover band who got tickets to go see KISS in Detroit, but a series of unfortunate events stop them from going to see the concert, and they don't stop at nothing to get all the way to Detroit for the Show of their lives.
The Best thing about this movie is that the characters are believable, they are exactly what you would expect, and they act exactly like normal teenagers would in the late 70', in most teen movies you see the usual cliché's, but not here.
All in all this movie is very entertaining, you never get bored, and the movie really puts you in these guys shoes and feel just like they would in that type of situation.Plus the movie is filled with an awesome soundtrack, with bands like AC/DC, Van Halen and of course KISS who also appear in the film.
So my advice to you (if you like good ol Rock n' Roll and Fun movies) is to rent Detroit Rock City invite some friends and Have a great Time.
Eragon (2006)
What Was So Wrong With the book's Story, I Ask
Where to Begin? The Screenplay was the worst adaptation of a book's story line I have ever seen I was just so disappointed by the fact that they just did not stick with the beautiful Story that Paolini has created.Let alone the fact that the movie had no flow, you can't understand the story at all (for example that Eragon suddenly learns words from the ancient language that he has never heard before, and all of a sudden he is an able swordsman when in the book it took him months) and WHY may I ask WHY did they invent such stupid "new" words in the ancient language when it took Paolini so long to invent a new unique one,I imagine what it was like for people that have not read the book. Now lets talk about the acting, CRAP from the most part of the actors, poor Jeremy Irons seemed to be put in a world he did not understand rather than being a former dragon Rider Himself. No DWARFS !? its an Abomination, WHY WHY the hell did they do that, I could not wait to get out of the theater and tell people how Horrible This Movie Was, They ruined a great story just so they could sell Toys and Videogames, Here you have a chance to do a great movie (From a Wonderful Book I might add) and you all Blew it.The Soundtrack deserves one word "CRAP" the music sounded like they copy and pasted leftover songs from LOTR, Star Wars or any other "epic" movie. I will quit wasting time insulting the movie. and instead I will give you the reason I give it a 5 out of 10 and not one, although the movie left me dead inside I Love the first two books Paolini wrote (Eragon and Eldest), this movie deserves more because its part of a great story (altough the people at FOX failed to bring this story to life) I really hope if they make Eldest they will do a better job and try harder. Read the Book I Beg all of you who haven't READ THE BOOK!! This Movie Sucked not because it was a "bad" movie but because its a bad Adaptation of a Great Story. I praise Paolini and I hope that all who was a part in the making of this Picture Regret what they have done.
Minority Report (2002)
Not Just Entertaining
A thriller based in a 2054 Washington. Starting from the fact that in my Opinion, this is the first movie of its kind, I must say that many motion pictures that came after did not follow this kind of futuristic "film noir" genre, I thought it would open a new chapter in film history.
Anyway the Screenplay was probably the best effort put into this movie together with Spielberg's amazing directing, and I loved the visual effects that brought a "cold" feeling to the story, During the first 10 minutes of the film I realized that this was a movie that would be nail biting and keeping you on the edge of your seat, Plus the whole concept of Precrime (being able to see a murder before it happens just made it) 10 times better. After the opening scene it just kept flowing in the right direction and you started to forget you in a theater. As for the acting I never really liked Tom Cruise as an actor but I love the way he plays the protagonist John Anderton. This movie has the right amount of action leaving space to important dialogue without ruining the climax of the story. Once again I return to the fact that this movie is one and the first of its kind and will adapt to any kind of audience, I recommend that you pay attention to detail though.
What else can I say except that I urge you all to watch this Great "Popcorn" movie
The Godfather (1972)
An Unforgettable Masterpiece !!!
Probably the best Motion Picture of all Time. What else can I say. I have read the novel and that was really great too, Francis Ford Coppola was really good in editing from the book to the screen. The Acting and the Screenplay was amazing which are probably the most important thing in movies. Nino Rota's Musical score was awesome it fitted in so well with each scene and brought it the right feeling to it. The story moved from one emotion to another in such a perfect way, you will find Suspense and Passion Power and Hatred in a way that will change the way you watch movies. The Godfather Part II was as good as this one. There is no other Motion Picture that takes you in an unforgettable story of Crime, Love, Hate and Power like The Godfather.
