Resident Alien (2021– )

My Season 1 vote

So I saw all of Season 1 and I sure hope there's going to be a second one! Actors, although I only knew the leading, are near perfect for their characters with some fair evolution along the episodes. The more the show advances, the more SY-FY it has and the FX are top rate. The outdoor sets are beautiful, the look on the people is adequate as is sound and soundtrack. As for the script, it has not cheesy drama, comedy (sometimes goofy, other times dark), slight crime and medical component that just add to mistery around the main character, whom you spend the entire season not knowing if you like him/it or not... So ,no, it doesn't fit in any particular category and I think a show like that was needed and that, for me, is nearly perfection.

So much potential, such a good start and yet...
1 April 2021
The series actually starts very well. The actors are not bad, the visual effects don't have a low cost feel, sound and the general look are very good. And so does the plot. There is an alien invasion, human survivers get together in order to fight on and fight back, nice approach on both humane aspects of post invasion but also the practical stuff (getting food, shelter, etc). Then, as episodes and seasons go by, it just degrades: more and more American patriotic talk, when it should be about Mankind, more and more supernatural and "deus ex Machina" moments, plot holes and lame script to the point that even the perfectly clean look of some characters annoys you 'cause it makes no sense. I watched it 'till the end just to be able to make an accurate review: it had the potential to be a truly "mankind wins the post Apocalypse thanks to its humanity and ingenuity" show and it started like that and then lost its way.

So, like I read in a review of another show, I tell you this: if you only have time to watch the best of the best, don't bother; but if you have the time, go ahead and watch it until you have had enough.

Another pearl
11 March 2021
Having stumbled upon some short films lately, though this is no diamond, it's certainly a pearl. The top of the story is undoubtedly the song but the rest (actors, image and sound) is quite decent. Only think the house should be more "wow" given the description of the owner but I guess it's what the budget managed to get. Not wasted time.

So sadly true that is hilarious
21 February 2021
I was zapping TV when I caught this movie starting in a secondary channel and I ended up watching 'till the end. I didn't recognize the actors but I know that European comedies can be quite the surprise and so was this one. Image quality is good with beautiful sceneries, there are the comical songs but above all, being an European myself, I totally got it. It's not full of stereotypes, it's more like reality slightly exaggerated for comical purposes. Or like we say here: "One has to laugh, so not to cry."

How to destroy the world: a series
14 February 2021
This is part of a group of shorts, apparently for Discovery Channel, that I found on YouTube. They are ok, good to share on social media with friends who share the same notion that we will be our own demise ahah

I do like pugs
12 February 2021
So I stumbled across this short and thought "what the hell, I do like pugs..." and I must say it were 2 minutes well spent. The concept and the dialogues make up for the scenarios and music and the character's animation is pretty good. Well done!

Idiocracy (2006)

More like 6.5

Is it a great awesome movie? No. Is it a must see for everyone? Hell yeah!!! Why? Acting might not be spectacular but I got to admit that playing just enough stupid must not be easy; making the "future" look and sound plausible in the concept of the script is just ok and though there are some holes in the story, the moral of it is striking...and scary. Because if we aren't careful, that kind of "future" is what we're heading to. So see it, everybody, as an eye opener. But have fun while you're at it!

The antagonist found?
20 December 2020
Concerning the plot we finally have some development just in time to hold us for one more episode. Julien Frison is brilliant which helps too. Artistically maintaining its quality, because I'm reading "Les miserables", it really makes my mind compare the character's backgrounds, looks and surroundings with the description of just a few decades later along the episodes (especially when the story drifts, my mind does too). Will I keep focus?

Should I be accused of wasting time?
20 December 2020
The script/plot does have its highlights but sometimes it gets a little disappointing, like something is off and you can't quite state what. The doctor character, for example, is totally linear, always the same "I'm sad and weak and helpless" kind of look. Though in all artistic aspects the show remains great, since I'm not a history pro but not at all clueless either, I often wonder if some details are accurate at all... Anyway, the story does keep interesting enough to want to watch the next episode just to see what follows.

La Révolution: Chapter Two - The Revenant (2020)

It lives
20 December 2020
The will to keep watching continues. Though sometimes the acting seems forced, not at a theatrical level however, one comes to realize it's the combination of French, historical atmosphere and storyline itself that gives that feeling. The plot flows steadily, sometimes predictable with good action scenes to spice up the episode. Visuals are better, especially city CGI, wardrobe, hair and makeup still good. Music goes unnoticed meaning it's doesn't stand out either in a good nor a bad way. Overall, let's keep going.

La Révolution: Chapter One - The Beginning (2020)
Season 1, Episode 1

A beginning to continue
18 December 2020
When I watched the trailer it reminded me of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and although the story has some similarities, this is not an action/comedy. It's a twist in a very important event for modern society, with a well written first episode that hints why the fiction could have been real and history rewritten, that has no intention of hiding (even to the point of predictable) the stereotypes of that period (reminding us that some things, regrettably, haven't changed that much) and that made me want to see more. Flowing from more still moments to some "that escalated quickly" ones, keeps quite interesting. The actors were unknown to me but do the job, visually is well done with some beautiful scenes but some not so good CGI (or so it seems) and good FX, costumes and hair and makeup (important in "historical" shows) are really good and the music, though more modern, actually fits in a show that promises action. Overall, it made me want to see the next episode. From then on, time will tell.
