Daisy Jones & the Six (2023)
Meh...
Started off ok.. but went downhill. Doesn't give off a very convincing vibe in terms of the 70's. Feels modern and looks like typical plastic Netflix. The songs are weak and sound like alt rock from the 90s. Doesn't follow the book at all. And of course, Simone has to be a Lesbian... Episode 7 was entirely un necessary. Not even accurate to the book... Snooze fest. Of course they had to have all that to check all the "boxes". But the worst was the end of episode 7 she's ready to come back and there's this "redemption" feel and boom right off the bat they're fighting again and the chemistry is way off.
Didn't even follow Fleetwood Mac closely. Laaaammmmeeeeee.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Oh Good Lord
I really want to like this. I really do, but my Lord is it messy. Two entirely different sub plots that keep attempting to intertwine and by the time they do its just a mess. There's more human scenes than dinosaurs. They spend more time on the biosyn/dna/scientist/locust crap than they do dinosaurs. Its just not the same feel. Even Fallen Kingdom was about DINOSAURS....
In addition they found a way to cram every single current event/political left agenda into the movie and its so forced and cringe. "You are the future of the world" then the camera focuses on every minority student in the audience.. seriously? Then the never ending topic of biosyn using grasshoppers to control food shortage and control the country etc. Blah blah. So many missed opportunities too. The Kayla character could had been Malcolms daughter from Lost World but nah.. They could had included Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn but nah... they could had used Igen but nah "bIoSyN"
It literally feels like a generic action film about science and dna and dinosaurs are just there. They're in the background as npcs. Lol The score is SO weak. No Williams. The acting is meh. Way too long, way too slow and boring. Im literally typing this during the movie its that boring. Only semi good part was the chase in the city mid way through with the Raptors... and did I mention there are 3000 random new dinosaurs that show up every 5 min and we don't even know what they are? Oof.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
MEH...
I want to love it, I really do, but there are so many cringe moments. Ewan is amazing as always, even the grand inquisitor is cool. But my lord has Disney become lazy.
The Order 66 scene was entirely unnecessary, literally for fan service, then that random Jedi was ONLY there as a McGuffin so Obi Wan would change his mind about saving Leia....
Reva is easily the worst character. Just cringe 101. The one liners, the accent changes, etc A character we know NOTHING about is getting tons of screen time and a 3 min long parkour chase scene on top of buildings. I thought I was watching Spiderman. Oof
Then there's the Leia chase scene, wow... Flea? Seriously? I like little Leia because I can tell they're trying to portray her as a rebellious character similar to how Carrie was, but it's getting old. All she does is run around and do the opposite of what people tell her. Thats it.
The CGI is Scorpion King bad at times, and the score... poor John. I adore anything John Williams does but this one doesn't hit hard for me. Sorry :/
Bail Organa, Obi Wan, Owen Lars, Grand Inquisitor, Even the Jawa are all great, but there are alot of negatives and I just hope the Vader scenes redeem the show a little bit. Fingers crossed.
Battlefield 2042 (2021)
Such a missed opportunity.
All the fans wanted was a revamped BF4 with better graphics, maybe a bit more in the future. Thats it. Instead we get this dumpster fire.
The game literally plays like it was originally intended to be a Battle Royale game and then half way through they changed it to regular Battlefield, except they didn't cover their tracks well. At launch (beta) there was literally no way to request ammo. And due to lack of classes or squad based abilities, nobody carries ammo because there's so many other gear that makes you basically a walking Rambo. Specialist presets results in everyone looking exactly the same except you're this unique "character" rather than a basic soldier. Makes no sense.
No more medic/assault/support/recon. Now everyone is a jack of all trades. So you have people running around with an rpg, medic syringe gun, grappling hooks, an M416, 3 grenades, a squirrel suit (for tornado acrobatics), and all sorts of other goodies. Not to mention weapon attachments on the go.... Which is HIGHLY unrealistic. Even COD doesn't do that crap. Nobody carries around 3 optics, 3 different types of ammo, 2 grips, and 3 barrels. Its just rediculous.
Vehicles are underwhelming and impossible to kill. Tornados are way too distracting which takes away from the objective. But thats not even the main problem. People already don't play the objectives because it turns into a giant free for all thanks to no more class based set ups and squad based game play. Its just a bunch of monkeys grappling around and flying in tornados with rpgs. An utter mess. Fps drops, bullets do nothing but you die instantly, graphics almost look cartoony, no campaign, etc. A giant waste and giant let down. Back to Modern Warefare, Battlefield 4, and Halo Infinite. Much better games.
1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992)
Inaccurate, but an awesome film.
Sometimes you have to just accept that directors are going to take a different route when making a film. Having a vision or version in your mind is acceptable. Scott definitely didnt nail it on the head accurately, but the tone of the film is superb. Beautifully shot, amazing costumes, great acting, and beyond AMAZING score by Vangelis. Id like a more historically accurate film, but for a film buff myself I find myself enjoying this one for the craft and not necessarily the accuracy.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Cinematic History
This will always be regarded as the Godfather of all Thrillers and even one of the greatest films ever made period. The movie was shot using an old Hitchcock technique using close ups to capture detailed emotions in the character's faces. Some films you subconsciously think about where the camera is sitting or envision a film set or actors on the other side. Not this. Its as if you dive into a trance of another fictional world and forget that you're watching a film. To top it off the score is highly underrated composed by none other than Howard Shore. Who would go on later to compose The Lord of the Rings. My favorite scene from the film is the very end with Clarice and Lecter's phone call and seeing him walk off into the distance only to disappear into the crowd. Genius ending. Leaves you wondering and curious and creeped out every single time with the accompanied music. 10/10
