This Means War (2012)
This feels...wrong
The premise is 2 guys battling over 1 woman who dates them both at the same time, mixed up with a CIA operation.
Tom's character is actually looking for love. He's desperate. And his relationship with Reese's character is shown as they are slowly falling in love. It felt genuine.
Chris's character is the guy who sleeps around. He's flirty. He's a showoff. And he tries to hit Reese because he wants a challenge, as she's playing hard to get. The way that's shown is, it's flirty. Not romantic.
They break their code. They put aside their long lasting brotherhood and they just make-up so many fake personality traits to suit her preferences. Which is, what she falls for, is a fake personality, tailor made for her preferences.
And Chris Pine gets the girl. He breaks their agreement, and sleeps with her. And she chooses him. Despite all the fake stuff she showed her. And been shown as the less ideal choice.
And despite Reese dating and almost sleeping with both of them, she plays the "you did me dirty" card which was laughable.
This doesn't give the satisfactory send off that most romcoms do. Fun to watch mostly. But just going to be a one time watch for me.
Hilda (2018)
The Most Beautiful Thing That Happened In Animation Category Recently
This deserves all the praise. 30 seconds into the 1st episode, when that music hits with an amazing intro into the warm and cold mixture of calming colour tones to the not overly-simplified yet beautiful, sunday newspaper comic strip type art, unique and lovable characters...it's just perfect. The world she lives in, the people/things she meet, the plot...gotta give props to Luke Pearson for his books and Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks for making the pages come to life...this is such a treat. The interactions between Hilda and her mother makes it better.
This is more towards kids but you'll find yourself smiling at what they have to offer to the child inside of you. Some say it's Gravity Falls reborn... this show has so much heart. Try it. You won't regret it ;)
