The Anatomy of Monsters (2014)
Not that good of a film or careful use of a single location
The film is basically in one location. There is one irritating incidence of a visual that should be accompanied by a corresponding sound, but it isn't. This really stressed me out uncontrollably. I had extreme anxiety, and it wasn't even tense, I just thought it was unnecessary aural interference. The rest of the film is full of poor acting, poor quality everything. The lighting looked like a highschool film crew did the job, and I wasn't very happy with the audio. Wasn't mixed right? Ear piercing highs. Not good. Stay away unless you're into shitty movie night.
Chemical Cut (2016)
Great Lo-Fi Indie Movie
I'll start by saying this looked like something I could watch passively, but the film was engrossing and surprising. It seemed like a hybrid of genres that I hadn't seen before, sort of a 'soft-satire' and cautionary tale for millennials. I fall into the age bracket this is targeting, I guess, but I really do think this film is relatable no matter what your age is. There are a lot of dark comedic moments, some visual transitions that are unexpected. Overall I found a lot of meaning and heart in the film and can tell a lot of time was put into this. This is very accomplished, especially as a first feature. I do hope to see more in the future from this director.
Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever (2014)
Good film for the Grumpy Cat fans
The film starts out a little slow for my liking, but it was really well involved by the 20 minute mark. Fascinating, punctual, and includes everyone's favorite cat. Need I say more? Take a look. As a side note: Grumpy cat is a female cat, making the protagonist a female. I'm sure most won't care about this little fact, but it is something to consider. Any bit of sexism removed in the world is a positive step to a better life for all.
