Belfast (2021)
Well written and beautifully acted
The movie has the dark back drop of Belfast in the 1960s with all the horrors of social injustices and violence well portrayed. The movie is beautifully shot though with really high quality ctibg spanning all age groups. It is a really high quality piece of Irish cinema.
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021)
Beautiful, Joyful and Sorrowful
This movie is superbly well acted by Cumberbatch, he really draws upon his wealth of acting skills in the most emotionally filled moments of this movie. The story is silly and yet enthralling as only a true character piece can be. With emphasis on the frailties of the humankind; encapsulating personal, domestic and societal issues with equally vivid measure. Louis Wain is truly a difficult man not to like, who doesn't appear to flow with the stream or embrace fully the burdens bestowed upon him by society and his spinster sisters, yet captures the hearts of many people along his lifes journey. This movie deals fully with lifes darker challenges, the tragedy of losing one's soul mate and the darkness of the mind. A truly colourfully and majestically portrayed piece of cinema, that tugs at the heart strings making one laugh yet shed a tear in equal measure.
1917 (2019)
Epic war movie
This is a truly brilliant war movie. It has some deeply dark and disturbing scenes that are shot fantastically. You really are with these lance corporals on their improbable mission. A mission with extreme severity both on a personal level for one and for the allied forces as a whole. The horrors of the Great War and the brutal and ugly hell on earth that was the trenches and mud of no man's land, are portrayed majestically in this movie.
King Richard (2021)
Will Smith masterclass
Will Smith is just brilliant in this movie, he owns the screen and his acting skills really drive home some truly excellent and emotional screen play. The story of the Williams sisters rise to stardom in the tennis world is one of true hard work and perserverance displayed by the whole family unit. This biopic flows well, the scenes help portray the struggles within the family both on and off court. This movie displays some truly beautiful and emotional elements and it's really difficult to see this not achieving some quality accolades.
Finding Your Feet (2017)
Really well acted movie.
The lead experiences a fall from grace in her elite circles and moves in with her older down to earth sister in her council flat. The movie is about coming to terms with relationship issues but also of self-rediscovery. The great British cast just exude British humour and really k ow their audience. Its a heart moving tale that deals with issues we all have or shall experience in life.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
A fun movie with a few ghosts and chuckles.
The movie has some nice moments, some good laughs and watchable action scenes. The movie has a good young cast who act well and are entertaining. The movie has a good flow even if you always know what will happen at the end. Worth a watch, particularly for the younger audience. A nice group cameo at the end also to warm the heart.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Riveting, dark and tragic.
This movie is a brilliant British dark thriller. It's full of great acting, great setting and quality British 60s music. The movie moves well and is a compelling watch from start to finish. The lead character is very likeable and surely relatable to many modern young adults, who have headed off to uni to an unfamiliar city far from home. The stresses of uni are compacted with a truely dark and sinister plot line that merges the past with present. A must watch Thriller!
Eternals (2021)
Not great.
The movie has some great visuals and some good action scenes but the acting is severely lacking. Only Richard Madden in this movie shows any form of skilled acting with believable emotions in the more intimate and emotional scenes. Even on the big screen, I thought the movie failed to deliver a noteworthy impact. Not a great Marvel movie.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Scotch and Bourbon
A very entertaining movie, with a great cast. The movie flows well and is action packed and entertaining from start to finish. The movie has its silly criminal mastermind, and her attempt to legalise the drugs market. The Kingsman team pair up with their American counterparts for some good old fashioned secret agent world saving action. Worth a watch.
The Last Duel (2021)
Great cast, well directed
From the perspective of three the movie has a great storyline, one based on a true story set in 14th century France. The movie feels slow to begin but draws you in with a compelling and intense ending. It is well directed and the cast matches Ridley Scott's quality. The only flaw for me is that it doesn't have a soundtrack to match. But, perhaps it doesn't need it. The movie has great dialogue and intimate and intricate role exchanges between the three main characters. As a footnote, the historians have done a good job working with the director to produce accurate costumes and props fitting of the setting. Get to the big screen to watch it.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Some good action and funny bits but not amazing.
I watched it in 3D 4X with the motion seats and special effects. This made it better for the action scenes etc.
But it wasn't a great movie, strange for such a strong cast.
Dune (2021)
Sand and Sound
The eiree sound track by the most famous Hans Zimmer does add something to this movie. I was new to Dune, having never watched the predecessors or read the book it has a good cast and the storyline has depth. It's a slow burner but with some good action scenes and I can see it being a great bunch of movies, though I'm not sure how many there will be. Definitely worth watching on the big screen.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Not my cup 'o tea.
There is some good acting in this movie, cinematography and visual effects. Certainly some well choreographed action and martial arts scenes. However, the story line is somewhat lacking. It also tries its hand at some comic moments but most don't cut the mustard, I'm managed a couple of small giggles along with my fellow cinema going compatriots.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Well narrated.
The movie is well narrated and there are some strong characters but the movie does drag and the ending is a little dull. It has your fair share of rioting shooting and bloody gore but it doesn't pack the punch of the series. You have to watch it though if you enjoyed The Sopranos.
Felon (2008)
Incredibly raw, vivid and disturbing.
This movie shows just how quickly life can go off the rails. Wade is inflicted with the most harrowing of domino effects that see him end up in the SHU the American penal systems version of hell on earth. There he truely has to fight for his survival and that of his families. Mentored by a seasoned prison OG he gets some wisened knowledge. Will that be enough to get him through his sentence? Watch this brutal and bloody movie to find out.
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
A warming movie.
The movie is entertaining and spirit lifting. I laughed a lot and shared the emotions of the characters at times. You are definitely routing
for the Peanut Butter Falcon come the end of the movie.
ARQ (2016)
High intensity.
I was slightly baffled at first not reading the synopsis thoroughly prior to watching. But, it ended up with a good flow with a healthy
portion of flesh and gore. Worth the watch, some good moments with an original feel.
The Sum of All Fears (2002)
A good movie from the turn of this 21st century.
Let's us pray and hope that this century sees no nuclear exchanges or superpowers going at it like this movie. The action and tempo of the movie kept me entertained. I only started looking at my mobile phone in the last 30mins.
Black Widow (2021)
Entertaining
The movie has a great female cast. The action is quite realistic and high speed martial arts scenes. I watched the viewing at Cineworld on the 4dx screen which gave added oomph to the experience. It's worth a watch, a good action movie with decent developing storyline.
Sixty Six (2006)
Laugh a minute.
Tears were shed. I love this movie. Watching just before an England match also. Top quality British actors.
Doomsday (2008)
Enjoyable and gory.
I found it very entertaining. Somehow it had been unknown to me until 2021 during a pandemic lockdown.
Love and Monsters (2020)
Entertaining
The movie develops well and has funny moments as well as some heart warming scenes. The monsters are comically ugly. It was worth the watch.
Tribes of Europa (2021)
A good binge watch. Where is series 2 already!?
I was a little scepticle in the first episode as sometimes dubbed over dramas can be tedious. But, it grew on me quickly. The acting is good and the theme/story is great. I like post apocalyptic dystopia futures. The acting is of good quality in the most part and the story line is navigable and entertaining. I would recommend to friends.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Dark
I was in shock for the first half an hour. I think it's a brilliantly dark comedy thriller, where no one is good. I was definitely happy at the end.
El hoyo (2019)
Unique.
A thought provoking movie ultimately about human morality, society and greed. It's very well done. I had to watch the dubbed over English version but that took little away from the acting which was high quality. The movie is shot well.
