Really Enjoyed this on Netflix
Maybe it's because I'm not locked into the F13 mythology, but this was a solid, creepy thriller.
Jared Padalecki & Danielle Panabaker are familiar faces now--nice to see them give such solid performances as youngsters.
Padalecki in particular is really good, very different from his CW character.
The special effects were good for the budget, the casting of support characters excellent, the music & "ominous sound cues" worked.
I HAVE watched the original & this is different, which might cause some diehards dissonance, but I like how this reboot worked.
Supernatural (2005)
Looking forward to Season 14
This show remains strong in spite of its age.
Or perhaps it's having the lengthy production experience that makes it so good on a budget limited by being aired on CW.
Unfortunately no spin off is (yet?) scheduled to expand the SPN universe into a second hour, but fans were promised at SDCC that the Wayward Sisters characters would be featured in the s14 eps.
So many stories to tell & only 20 eps this year!!
The brothers, portrayed by Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki, are once again joined by Misha Collins in a struggle of good over evil.
Newcomer Alex Calvert continues on as new character, Jack.
All are interesting, capable actors.
Supporting cast is uniformly strong & SPN has brought back some fan favorites.
Anyone who hasn't seen Supernatural yet might find jumping in at s14 a bit daunting...there is a build up of lore.
However, the fandom is welcoming & binge watching prior seasons isn't unheard of. (Yep. Even when there are that many eps every year.)
Outstanding, quirky show that
punches above its weight.
Supernatural: Wayward Sisters (2018)
Want to see More
This is designed as a spinoff to SPN, with a concept to complement rather than try to replace.
It makes use of characters established over the years (Claire, Donna, especially Jody) & newcomers (Patience, Kaia.)
They are complex, realistic women characters who stand out in a see of bland. The kind of role models we need. (Especially Jody.)

The awkward part of any backdoor pilot is that it has to fit w/I the regular series w/o disrupting it, so it doesn't have the same "freedom" to pull out the stops that regular pilots have.
In spite of this, Dabb & Berens have created an involving show that would've been very interesting to see.
In promos from January, Mark Pedowitz said he was ok w/ the show, but it was up to whether the fans would watch...ratings numbers came in fine.
At UpFronts, Pedowitz cited creative issues--so fans were left not knowing what the problem was (and are still wondering, frankly, as conversations at SPN conventions show.)
---
Anyway, promo interviews by the SPN leads suggested it would be a companion show until they retired & Jared Padalecki hinted at guest spots after that.
So the show could have been a ratings holder & a chance to carry the SPN fandom on for however long they would go.
Kim Rhodes & Briana Buckmaster are excellent actresses able to carry the weight of leads.
They & the younger women formed a diverse cast--both in orientation & ethnicity. (And ages.)
I'd have liked to see the spin off & would have gladly watched a second hour.
Legacies? W/o the Originals leads, w/ a boarding school/teen set up...no thanks.
Paper Heart (2009)
Not My Cup of Tea
I can't say if the ending's good or not, because I didn't make it past the middle. Unusual for me. Usually any book or movie left half undone would scratch at my brain, but this was so unwatchable that I was glad to leave it be.
Sorry. I'm sure the actors are nice people, and I hope the director had fun. However, I'd not recommend this. At all.
The Ritual (2017)
Underrated Thriller
This movie is based on a best seller and features fine actors. Still it doesn't seem to have gained the buzz I expected.
Perhaps that's because people are expecting a horror film more than a thriller. Yes, it's a bit of both.
I would recommend the film and hope that it finds success.
