Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Sam Raimi Madverse.
So let's start off by saying I am a huge Evil Dead Fan and I loved Xena, and the Raimi Spiderman movies. This obviously creates bias. I have being a comic book geek for 3 decades and have mostly enjoyed all the MCU offerings. What Raimi has done here is put his spin and sense of humor into this latest Dr. Strange outing. I thoroughly enjoyed the darker tones and horror/light gore addition. If anyone has truly read and followed Dr. Strange for years you will appreciate these darker tones and some of the familiar creatures included in the movie. Now spoilers: Wanda is not always good in the comics and again if anyone has followed the character they have seen her kill and outright murder the good and the bad when she has a huge emotional breakdown or stressor. So if all you know about these characters is what you have seen in the latest tv shows and past movies you know very very little about these characters. Wanda going dark and losing control due to the evil book and loss of her children is one of those emotional stressors that could cause her to lose control. The SFX were awesome. Wanda killing the Illuminati heroes was heart wrenching and showed the decay and angst she was going through. Zombie Dr. Strange was a ton of fun and made total sense as he did not want to use a living person and put them in danger. He risked his soul to not risk another person and their soul. Overall very satisfied with the direction and new feel of this not so as usual cookie cutter MCU movie.
The Batman (2022)
Detective Story
For some reason if you enjoyed this movie and rate it highly you are a paid employee. Oh how I wish I were, but I digress. I am not a fan of Robert Pattison. When I heard he would be the new Batman I cringed. Besides Corona he was the second biggest reason I did not venture to a theatre to watch. I ended up streaming it because I broke down and said let's give it a chance. I am glad I did. This was a true detective story very much like the batman I grew up with. This wasn't just some guy beating the daylights out of bad guys and zipping around on a grappling hook. There was methodical thinking and solving a case. I liked that this batman was just two years into his crusade and has more to learn and grow. I thought this Riddler was terrifying and twisted and was acted out well. The Penguin was good but I wanted him to be more of a loser and needy. I liked the new Cat Woman but felt the romance was to quick and forced. I wish there would've been more build up to establish an attraction. The action sequences we get are thrilling and very well done. The biggest issue was the run time however I can't imagine what needed to be cut. I hate to say it but Robert Pattison did a great job portraying The Batman. He did not overact and was believable as the new Dick. I an looking forward to this new universe expanding and seeing more of The Batman.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Enjoyable
My wife and I enjoyed this movie. I'm npt sure why the bad reviews. Was it groundbreaking? No. But it was fun, comedic, full of good special effects and not to serious. It was very similar to its predecessors.
Fractured (2019)
Netflix finally does it.
I watch a lot of made for Netflix movies. Most fall apart with a horrible ending or no ending at all. This movie has you stressed out from beginning to end. My wife and I were waiting for the typical Netflix treatment. We were very surprised by how good this thriller was. It has you on edge from the beginning to the end. If you enjoy thrillers , twists and butterflies in your stomach take a seat and enjoy this ride.
Bird Box (2018)
1st good netflix original movie
Why the high score? Great acting by Sandra B. And John M. John Ms character was so unlikeable and also not wrong! As a parent the scene with the children being yelled at by Sandra B hurt my soul you felt for he children as she was so harsh and seemingly unloving. But as a parent you can also see she was actually the one you shoukd feel sorry for. She had to to be hard on them that was the hardest thing she had to do for throughout the movie. It wasn't the unknown force hell bent on her death or worse or even dealing with roaming psychos. She had to chose their survival over giving them a childhood she didnt coddle them. The effects of the unknown force(s) looked great and were very effective. The ending leaves it open to either a sequel or your imagination. I chose to believe the plight they faced was an apocolypse type event and only some will and can survive. See no evil, hear no evil.
Yeom-lyeok (2018)
Fun, quirky, triumphant!
Lots of negative reviews on here which is surprising as I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The action sequences and special effects were tons of fun and quite different than I'm used to. The story although simple really leaves an impact. Some
Moments will make you sad, some moments will make you laugh. This movie shows a lot of different angles of the human psyche and does not fail to entertain. Thr score was also very different than Im used to bu yet it framed the movie perfectly. 10 for me.
The Orville (2017)
Give it a Chance
Great show. Everyone keeps saying this show is more Star Trek than the new Star Trek. I agree. The show follows a TNG like format. Light hearted but some episodes really make you think. It has a lot of thoughtfully written episodes that make you think about your views on sex, philosophy and religion. Yes i am talking about a Seth Mafarty show here. Gets a ten from me.
