Set in the 9th Century, Uhtred is the son of the Saxon Nobleman. Uhtred of Bebbanburgh, which is now known as Bamburgh. As the Danes invade and take over parts of what will become England Uhtred the younger is captured and raised by the Danish Earl Ragnar. When Earl Ragnar is killed by another Dane, Uhtred and his friend Brida seek a place of refuge at the court of King Aethelred in the hope of support to reclaim his title and ancestral home which in his absence has been usurped by his Uncle. The TV Series is based on the popular fictional book series by Bernard Cornwall which references many significant people and events in the history of England.
