Xenia (2014)
Danny and Odysseus' Odyssey
A journey of two brothers that started from grief and ended in hope. Danny's evolution through their journey, his imagination, Ody's step to adulthood; the journey transcends from the plain of reality and steps to the plain of surrealism achieving tender moments of brotherly love and affection, while also stepping in the twisted and very real issues of the Greek society's reality of misanthropy, hate and government sanctioned xenophobia.
Unfortunately, the abundance of dull or superficial dialogues and interactions throughout the movie - a lot of which angst and teen spirit cannot justify - made it difficult to keep up with / stay focused on and disrupted the flow of the film.
About the ending, I do wanted to to know more about what happened next; did the meet up with Vicky the next day, did Odysseus finally started chasing his singing passion, did Danny meet with the other boy at Alexandra? Maybe at the end a lot of it was Danny's imagination and we are seeing it through his phone photos. Maybe they won't get the nationality validation and maybe they will return to Tasos, but at the end of the day they had hope for their future and they had each other so I guess it's better this way, no one ever knows.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A very special movie.
A movie that makes you think that maybe, just maybe you can still do it. You can still live in this world and not just survive.
The deliverance of the plot, cinematography and visuals are stunning. The message behind this a tender subject rooted in generational gaps and delivers it to the targeted age groups flawlessly.
An amazing film, truly.
Shihaisha no Tasogare (1997)
Enjoyable 50min movie
The classic 90s animation feel, a pretty straight forward plot. The action scenes are a few but quite memorable. Also, one could correlate the hero's ability with this of Col. Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist, makes you wonder on the influence between the creators.
Kaubôi bibappu: Cowboy Bebop (1998)
An Incredible Classic
From taking a stroll in Mars' cityscape, to travelling in Outer Space, making friends with a satellite AI to having your heart broken into million pieces, this anime will stay with you.
I will always be part of the Spike, Jet, Faye, Ein and Ed group riding the swordfish across the galaxy in typical cowboy fashion.
See you again space cowboy, I am still carrying the weight!
Riverdale (2017)
Uhmmmmmm
The first was good with a solid plot, but after whichpoint my feelings are described best by Connor Jessup's sayings which I quote:
"...S5 has achieved escape velocity. It will not be slowed by the tedious gravity of human comprehension. It is beautiful streaking starship piloted by an AI on ayahuasca taking us faster than light on a ten trillion mile tour of cosmic madness..."
Gantz: O (2016)
Great action packed animation
Tech katanas, mechs, lasers and demons all with awesome animations and a nice linear good vs bad guy plot, does it need anything more!?
As the title suggests, GANTZ:O is a pretty good action themed animation. I read there is a bigger background to it, but even though I don't have any particular knowledge of it, the movie was still enjoyable and understandable.
Also, there are no tedious parts with long explanations since in most of the screen time there is some kind of battle taking place. The animations are all on point and eye pleasing.
All in all, if you are an animation fan then it's definitely worth a view. (lang: Japanese, subs: Eng)
Fight Club (1999)
An iconic film
I know the film stays with you mostly due to it's plot, which it indeed is truly one hell of a ride, but the setting, the cinematographic shots, the feeling of the whole visuals implemented really strikes a chord. An amazing movie.
Locke & Key (2020)
Stepping on a lot of different genre with a stretched ending
I liked the mystery-thriller-drama style of the series which was topped of with the addition of the keys which piqued the curiosity and added somewhat of a fantasy feeling to the whole setting.
The whole series though feels like it tries to address lots of different issues and topics (the social lives of the characters, their psyche, the mystery of the house, the keys etc etc) that end up unfinished or unaddressed even and some - dare I say- holes in the story.
The ending most certainly seemed a little bit stretched so that a second season would be needed/viable.
Dorohedoro (2020)
A very good adaptation of the manga
The plot is really nice, faithfully following it's manga couterpart (which I am a big fan of) and even though the first season ends at a some kind of a pivotal point for the beginning of the "actual plot", one can pick up the manga (Vol. 7 ch.41) as it is already completed. Also one MAJOR plus it that the animations are spot on and not sketchy or rushed like other animes I've seen. Season 2 is already in my to-watch list for sure.
Hauru no ugoku shiro (2004)
Nostalgic
A very beautiful animation movie, from art to plot; the music is the cherry on top. I reminisce seeing it home alone wanting to experience life as Sophi. It was my favourite movie then. Still find it great whenever I see it now.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Superb
The scenery, the performance, the achitecture, the cast, everything knits tightly together to form a bittersweet -masterpiece if I dare say- film. It's been a while since I saw it, but it stays with you; a must see for sure.
