After having just finished reading Starless Sea, by the talented Erin Morgenstern, I noticed the many similarities with this plot. The best thing about this movie is the sets, the visual artistry. The dialogue was trite. Unskilled direction? Probably. It did move along, so I was drawn into watching the whole thing. What a cast!

favorite xmas episode of series
23 December 2020
Outnumbered is a series we watch over and over, when it's available to stream. We notice this excellent episode has been cut from Prime Video only. Cannot imagine why this could be. The writing is up to standard, the characters are full, the storylines are varied and showcase some favorite UK actors. It's hilarious. Prime Video should reinstate it as Ep.8 of Season 4. Please . . .

Don't over think it.

I was intrigued by Rami Malek's eyes/windows. I immersed myself in the action, dialogue and plot, I just let it wash over me. The ending was my payoff. Because the first half I had no idea WTF was happening. The end didn't disappoint me, it clarified the method, the storytelling of the film. I'll be ready to watch it again next week. My brain is tired. (Mind the physical/planetary theory, it's not so much BS.)

lost a wee bit of time on this film

I was lost after the first half, then tried to make sense of the jumbled second half. Not great. I did enjoy Jude Law's NY accent. Jennifer Ehle is such a capable actor, so that was good.
I wanted to be surprised by a movie I just hadn't noticed before. Sadly, I was disappointed.

Stay with it.

I watched it tonight. Glad I stayed with it. Enjoyed the characters, cast and soundtrack and it's not your high dollar Hollywood film.
My only criticisms are the slow pace and not a lot of character back story. But, hey, I know what I like.

He was 3 days old when his "mother" David took him home and, along with his partner raised a happy, healthy child. Being taken away from these two loving men was the first crime against Gabriel. That made my heart ache.
Gabriel's family honored their own homophobia before acknowledging that loving home for Gabriel.
Beaten and called gay by the monster that killed him. That was so telling about why they didn't love Gabriel.

I found this DVD at my local library, going out of rotation. Never heard of it, but I'm a fan of the late Elizabeth Pena, so borrowed it. For some reason I assumed it was about drug dealers (?) so was delightfully surprised when I had a lovely, smiling feeling at the end. Well done study of 3 lonely NYC dwellers.

"Atypical" or "Flowers"?

I was hooked almost immediately. And then characters, school, siblings, music tracks and locations? Was this series based one previous Netflix series? All 3 are original Netflix high-quality productions. Some of my personal favorites for binge watching.
