Blue Eye Samurai: The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride (2023)
This is incredible
I almost never leave reviews but I had to this time!
I am 60 years old. I've been an ardent fan of Chanbara since I was 8 or 9. I studied Kenjutsu and Iaido for about 10 years when I joined the military and have been in love with Japanese culture my entire life.
I went into this series with a "oh well whatever" attitude. I got knocked off my feet!
The animation is awesome, the story is incredible and rarely have I seen animated action that was almost equal to the live version! The only thing I didn't like was that it ended.
When they broke out with "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" I almost lost it! There were even a handful of Wilhelm Screams!!!
If you are a fan of innovative and retro Samurai action and want to see something you've never seen before...this is your drug!
Revenge (2017)
Suspend all reality and Logic! This is stupid
I don't have the time to complain about all of the stupidity of the mechanics of this movie! One minute you are fully impaled on a dull branch and then Ka-Pow, you are rocking and rolling like nothing has happened. I think one of my faves is the scene where she smashes a flashlight lens against a rock, leaving a few small pieces of glass on the ground and bad guy #2 runs buy and gets his foot nearly bisected longways! When he pulls the piece out it has grown exponentially! Seriously: the movie appears to have enough $$ behind it to have been a MUCH better outing! This movie is just plain stupid! I gave it 2 stars because I liked the house and the pool.
The Final (2010)
The darker side of High School...and life in general.
Small budget, unknown cast but a decent romp through the evils that creep the halls of schools and the cubicle farms of everyday America...and the rest of the world!
The strong and the weak, predator and prey, haves and have nots. Its an age old story but still fun watching a bunch of upper middle class, yuppie scumbags getting their due.
A little bit of Nietzsche here fer sher!
The Gray Man (2022)
If you like the novels, DON'T DO IT!!!
I went into this expecting a loose interpretation of the book series. This motion doo-doo stuff has ZERO to do with the GM series! You get some groovy action and stuff but if you want to think about a plot line...NAH!
The Deep House (2021)
This could've been EPIC!
When I went in I was digging the setting, the characters, the premise. Once they got to the underwater property gates...Houston we have a sh@t ton of continuity issues! I thought I could suspend my yada, yada, yada but it became unbearable aft about 10 minutes. Nothing made sense after about 20 minutes and it just got worse from there. I could make spooooky excuses for this if there were at least some sort of cohesive story line available. There really wasn't and I think the premise was totally wasted.
The overall idea was very cool! It didn't appear to suffer from budget issues and I feel the actors could've pulled it off. What the hell happened?!
Candyman (2021)
Actors with Potential
I felt the actors were talented. The story a laboriously reworked. I got pretty tired of the PC tropes with the reverse racism stuff. I'm just tired of all the doo-doo. I just want a good horror story.
Flaskepost fra P (2016)
I LOVED THIS!
I watched this late one night because...I didn't see anything else that stoked my interest.
This is a very entertaining, engrossing, well executed, well acted movie! I cared a great deal about all of the primary and secondary characters! There was an unexpected kindness, caring and tenderness amongst the characters that, while not standing in the way of dogged determination, made them seem like realistic and somewhat vulnerable humans who are compelled to protect others.
I have to be 100% transparent: I like violent and bloody movies. I find them cathartic. This story had me wrapt with very little of either!
Monster Hunter (2020)
Oh Lawd!
Okay if you need even a minuscule of technical integrity... it will not be found here! It truly feels like they got together before each scene and said "it would be cool if we did this" regardless of the strain on the storyline.
Don't expect any continuity at all! Mila is dying of thirst one second, has lipstick on a second later and kung-Fu'ing with a withered visage all within 4 seconds.
If you've ever served in the Army: you'll vomit at the level of total bullshizzle.
The Forever Purge (2021)
Head scratcher...
Do other nations hate themselves so much that they make movies about it?
At the same time I guess those countries and peoples who've endured genocide and civil war have struggled through this type of behavior.
Infinite (2021)
If Percy Jackson and Max Payne had a love child...
I was excited to see it until I saw it. I feel bad for Marky Mark. This would be great as a movie oriented towards a young adult audience but as far as an adult audience who actually enjoys continuity and a modicum of accuracy in historic events and props, not so much. EVERYTHING was so over the top that it became boring. I'm cool with suspending my disbelief but when a movie makes the "GI Joe" franchise, which I love BTW, look mega mature and polished...meh. It just seemed to grind on and on and was a labor to watch. This storyline wouldn't even make an engaging comic book.
