For History and Movie Buffs
20 January 2024
I write as someone who didn't know much about this part of American history. What's very interesting is that this tragedy happened in Oklahoma when the Tulsa Race Massacre occurred 3 days after. A time when both Native Americans and Black Americans were killed because of their wealth obtained from oil ventures. This in itself kept me engaged in watching this long movie. When you are intrigued by past history which rips the heart, the length of the movie doesn't bother you. I agree with those reviews that it was a Scorsese masterpiece. I think those who like his creative style will enjoy this movie. Plus, the actors are incredible. This is definitely a movie for those who enjoy thought provoking history and movies that are brilliantly filmed.

Reality at it's best
8 December 2023
We live a life of randomness and uncertainty. We don't have control over anything, except our attitude and whether we want to forgive or not forgive someone who hurt us. This movie is about this situation in life. It is a part in life that affects us in some form or other. I liked this movie because I felt I was a spectator of a realistic life because the actors are so good! Yes, it is a simple tale of loss, grief, redemption, and forgiveness. Nonetheless, the director and actors made this a powerful endeavor that needs to be watched by everyone. I believe it will make you reflect on your own life.

The Outer Limits of life
6 December 2023
As a psych major, I really found this movie fascinating. It reveals a part of human weirdness that exists in society. While it causes some people to be disgusted, it intrigues other people to the point of wonder. What's behind a criminal mind? I think people who wonder about that will find this movie very interesting The acting and directing of this film is amazingly good. The ending is unexpected. It's a definite watch for those who like to experience the outer limits of mankind.

Julian Moore and Natalie Postman are the right actresses to portray the uncanny characters of this film. It's a movie you must watch with friends who like to have deep discussions on the human condition.

From the fields to ...
18 September 2023
Wow! What an inspirational movie! Jose Hernandez is truly the "son of the town" like Jose Alfredo Jimenez's song describes to a "T". From humble beginnings to traveling the outer cosmic, this incredible story weaves the fabric of unbreakable persistence with the strong encouragement of family and friends.... even an elementary teacher. I believe the real hero to this story is Adela, his wife...beautifully played by Rosa Salazar. Adela is a faithful wife, mother of 5, with her own dreams, and the pillar of the story. Peña showed the humility and big heart of Hernandez in a very convincing manner. Marquez Abella, the director, did a wonderful job capturing the Mexicano culture, the farm worker struggles, and many pivotal things that those raised in this lifestyle can relate to. She takes the audience through an emotional connection which can leave you with tears of joy. My hope is that everyone who has their own dreams, even when they seem impossible to obtain, will watch this movie. It will give you the determination kick you need during these challenging times. I highly recommend this delightful adventure especially when it's based on true American history we should all be proud of.

Blown Away to the point of liking Country
24 January 2023
This review is written to those who were never brought up listening to "country" music. I'm one who wasn't. I watched this series because I like the main actors. Man, I blown away by the lyrics of these songs and the way they were sung! I didn't care if George and Tammy's life was accurately portrayed. I cared more about how the actors and the series itself made the words to these songs so vivid to me. I congratulate everyone who made this emotional story possible... which included their youngest daughter. It made me appreciate this music so much more. I'm impressed how how these simple songs can be packed with so much emotion. I'm convinced that anyone who isn't familiar with this genre will develop a special liking for it. I sure as hell did.

The Lives of those who Sacrifice
21 August 2022
I think people love this movie because it effectively shows the never ending evilness and control found in society. Yet, no matter how bad it gets for us, there are those who stand against it. There is hope in society because of them. They fight for what is right even if it causes them harm. If you're that type of person, you definitely should watch this movie.

As real as it gets....
13 August 2022
This award winning film merits watching by those who cast a judgmental eye at the homeless population. Celine Held and Logan George shared a horrible thing happening in society today while at the same time, educating us that sacrificial love is possible in all of us.

Endless Lust Disaster
4 January 2022
This is a definite "watch" for anyone in the marriage counseling field. The series realistically depicts the continuing dynamics we are seeing in today's marriages. People coming together with complex life patterns and blatant uncontrollable selfishness, with the hope of finding endless love in matrimony. The trying to fit a square peg in a round hole marriage story was uniquely presented to keep your utmost attention. I thought it was brilliantly portrayed where one's expectations are unexpectantly diverted to another direction. It was also creative artwork. The Actors, who apparently have been friends for over 20 years, did an incredible job in their roles. I'm glad my Wife of over 40 years, I watched it. It prepared me for the unexpected as a Facilitator of a Fatherhood course. The institute of marriage has sadly changed where people are oblivious to the reaping of generational happiness. I was pain-strucken when I saw the parent's little Daughter being set up for the vicious circle of broken life patterns. Yet, this series motivated to me to fight for the marriage covenant which offers wonderful hope to young married couples. This series is also for those marriages with children, who think about their children's future instead of limiting themselves to their emotionally driven lust and desires. There is hope for great scenes from a blissful monogamous marriage. There is endless love which derives from long term and faithful marriage. Like fine wine, it takes the time process of patience to find out.

Forgiveable
14 December 2021
If there is one movie to come back after Bird Box, this was it. After a 3 year hiatus, Sandra comes back with an emotional powerhouse with her share of "hurts" in her actual life. She appears on the screen as a hard and callous prisoner who was stripped away from a wonderful past. Only to come out a stoned face institutionalized criminal who is given a second chance to life with minimal expectations of any worthwhile contribution to society. This flick is a battle cry for the "unforgiveable". The people we stamp as evil and stay away from. Yet, they are just like us with feelings and the ability to "love". It's only when we come to understand this fact, can we experience this fact. The cast of notable Actors does an excellent job in allowing us to see that no matter what "monster" we have preceived someone to be, forgiveness and understanding enables us to see that everyone has some ability of being loved and showing it too. This movie must be seen by those who need to realize this valuable lesson. You might want to have a box of tissue paper close by.

Cinematic Cuisine at its Finest
14 November 2021
There are people you like fast food and others who like Michelin Star. This is a movie for the latter. The kind who can savor the flambé of Rebecca Hall and the culinary presentation of Edu Grau. Add the searing effects of the Actors, and you get a rave review which every movie team strives to create on the picture screen.

Passing is a narrative of American living. One plagued with a dreadful past which continues to fuel hate, envy, and tragedy. It portrays a reality that all of us can understand.

I highly recommend this cinema masterpiece to movie connoisseurs.

As Real as it Gets
26 October 2021
This series is one powerful depiction of reality. So real, that many on the Web, asked if it was based on a true story. What is real is the agony of obtaining justice in an unfair world. The realism of how people lived where the almighty dollar distorts all hopes of a good society. Then...add Jonathan Demme, Regina King, the other actors to the mix, and you get as real as it gets. The critics who think it's boring and a slow burn, didn't see the dramatic and cinematography details. This film paints a narrative that can only be appreciated by those who are aficionados of real life dramas, the beauty of good film making, and topics that stir up deep profound thought. Those are the ones who appreciate this chronicle of true American life.

The Winding Road of life
30 September 2021
If you're a "Baby Boomer ", you have to watch this movie. It speaks to all of us. It takes you to your own past when you were a carefree, emotionally consumed youngster, to a present of which can lead you towards self evaluation, and a future that provokes the wonder of your own demise. The Director masterly takes you into people's lives in a peculiar way which leads you to sense your vulnerability. This film moved me because it was so real. I believe it will do the same to many who at one time felt indestructible. Those of us who wonder where the time went. Those of us who savor each moment of our lives while fighting our past regrets.

Go where you're looking...
19 September 2021
Sometimes, you think that you are ok and never realize that there is a better you around the corner of life. This movie portrays that corner. This simple dialogue of a story drives you into a world of new challenges that are easy to avoid instead of taking them by the horns. Yet, when facing them, they open up excitement where you influence and let others influence you in a very welcome manner. This is a movie for the dreamer, the frustrated, the conformist who learns to hate life. It's gives hope to the hopeless, no matter your age. Clint continues to be a living legend and his movies prove it.

What role is there that Close cannot depict without an incredible performance?!?? Through the years, she has taken us on an incredible journey of American Life with all the personas she has portrayed. She was definitely a convincing Mother of an addict in this film. I just hope she wins a long awaited Academy. I cannot add much more to the excellent reviews, especially from ex-addicts. A definite watch, especially for those who want to understand the emotional roller coaster lived by the addict and their family.

Small Town Simpleness
24 July 2021
This "Slow Burn" gem of small town existence is profoundly beautiful. At first, it can come across as a boring "Hallmark" movie that is unrealistic which lacks action-pack sex, love, and guns blazing. Instead, it epics life in the "sticks" where teens are dying to leave and not much happens except breathing and fishing. Then, the director masterly opens up a world where people authentically care and protect each other. A world that is nonexistent in "rat race" living where those, like Melinda Monroe, takes a risk to adventure. Although she is just a fictional character, thousands have Web search Virgin River City; including me. This area is breathtaking and a place where you know that people come together in time of need. Of course there are those who you will clash with, overall, small city people got each other's backs. Unfortunately, evil prevails everywhere no matter how small the place. It's just part of life and not including it would make this more of a fairytale. I highly recommend watching this hidden jewel. My "props" to everyone involved in the making is such a wonderful series. It gives one hope that there are still people who believe in community, which I'm convinced can still be found in the City... if you take time to show that you care.

Trial and Triumph
7 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film is a powerful rollercoaster of a film. It's full of the ups and downs of life which keep you in suspense. Its a good depiction of how one person's life decisions can impact so many people. Some will dismiss you as a loser while others will still believe in you; no matter what. This is a movie that brings hope to the ones who want to continue having hope. It gives hope to those who question God's existence. It gives you encouragement in society no matter how bad it seems. An excellent movie which is well done and leaves you wanting to yell out a shout of triumph. My congratulations to the Director, Actors, and everyone else involved in making this film.

What a life!
24 May 2021
If you like thought provoking movies that are filmed with emotional impact about life and it's struggles, this one struck gold. This flick is more than alcohol. Alcohol was just the ingredient that opens the door to many of life's issues, adventures, challenges and tragedies. It was mixed with profound insight and entertainment. It allows for so much discussion and sharing of your thoughts about life itself. Hidden in this film is an understanding of Denmark's "hygge". It demonstrates why Denmark is one of the happiest countries in the world. I thought this was an excellent movie. All the actors were amazing. Definitely a must see for those with an open mind.

The Real and Raw Deal
31 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Storyline: This is the story of the many Mexican immigrants who come to this country solely for financial opportunities and the dream of going back to the life they left. Unfortunately, reality is often disappointing because it rarely happens the way it's planned. It was perfectly portrayed in this film.

Actors: These actors are masters of their roles. What you see are years of superb acting experience. They are like seasoned performers who can still perform with admiration. They inspire anyone who reaches a mature age that nothing can stop your mojo.

Inspiration: Age is just a number. These Actors have been performing in a number of films and work together like clockwork. They appear to be having fun. They are like old band members who have been performing for years. They give hope to those who think their washed up from accomplishing their dreams. Their performances will inspire many.

Recommendation: I recommend this film. It effectively portrays the dilemma of immigrates and their strong family bond. It also breaks the stereo typical barrier of the characteristics of successful actors. Actors are those who are willing to take the stage and do the best that they can to complete their role. Bravo to all of them. They made this film an inspiration success.

On being the person you desire to be
21 December 2020
I watched this movie not knowing anything about it. I'm a Heterosexual Latino Male who has been married for nearly 40 years. I'm also a Christian who believes in the man- woman relationship. Nonetheless, this movie touched me in a very profound way. I felt moved to feel the pain of those who struggle to be someone they are not... because of the pressure placed on them. We all need to accept a person for who they are. We cannot judge anyone or pressure them to be someone they are not. This is what I got for this movie. I'm glad I saw it and believe others will be glad to see it as well. The Actors did an excellent job portraying their roles. I give them all a standing O. Definitely a movie which can be discussed and debated by anyone who cares.

A sadden reality that needs to be discussed
15 December 2020
As I watched this film, I could not help in thinking of our future. How many good hard working people will be struggling from the consequences of a continuing gig economy? How can the family bear with a growing financial toll to survive? What means will be use to snuff out the pain? This movie brilliantly administered the results of economic challenges among corporations which are driven to survive at all costs. It defines our present economy which continues to create corporate monsters and employees (who just want the best for their families) to suffer because of it. This film is a good portrayal of what is to come and how we need to find solutions to best deal with a viable future problem. It's a definite table topic that we can not ignore. See this film.

Sad Reality in the lives of the young
28 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I believe only a foreigner or one who understands the struggles of a foreigner in this country can appreciate this film. This film brilliantly portrayed the loneliness and frustration experienced by them, which is seen in the life of Ulises while escaping violence in his country. However, the underlying story of the hopelessness of today's youth is what this film is about. They are talented, yet lack the opportunities to develop a productive life in society. They can cover up this reality with their artistic distraction yet, it's not enough to lead them to a worthwhile quality of life. To make matters worse, they are easy prey to illegal activities that lurk around them. As a result, they are left vulnerable to easily take a path of destruction. This film was very effective in reflecting the sad reality being faced by our youth. It left me with deep sadness seeing the difficulties being faced by them, especially when they are from deprived countries or broken families in this country.

The Story of a Lonely Janitor
7 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that maybe the ending should be the beginning. It gives you something to understand rather than trying to figure it out if you didn't read the book. It's easy to get trapped in a "What the heck is going on???? Mode". That makes it difficult to capture the superb acting, the well placed details, the creativity of this flick. You have to watch this with a group so you can have an interesting conversation with them over coffee. Definitely one that needs to be watched a second time. Reflecting back, I really liked this movie. We all have had a bout of loneliness and can relate to this movie because of it; in some way.

Tears of anger.... Tears of Victory
8 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This story moved me to a crying mess. I was shocked, angered, and saddened. Then.... I was surprised with joy by the heroes who come together for the sake of fighting for justice. I'm glad to see people stand for what is morally correct..... minus defense lawyers who sell their souls. A must-see to those who want to experience the nauseating battle against child abuse and the powerful victories which result from it.

Brilliant.... for some
10 July 2020
There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who want instant gratification of their emotions by what they "look at" and those who are patient enough to take time to appreciate what they "see". What I saw was a brilliantly done movie that kept you thinking the "why". The cinematography was amazing and the emotion in the actors facing spoke more than their dialogue itself. This movie kept you thinking both analytically, psychologically, and philosophically. If you are one of these people, watch it. If you are those that keep thinking how much you don't like the movie while watching it...... don't.

A Life with purpose
3 July 2020
This series is amazing because it touches on so many subjects. It's not just a spy series, it's a human experience which crosses all boundaries within that experience. The actors are believable to the tee. No one is a weak link. The story line brings deep thought about life issues which we all face. The suspense keeps you coming back for more. I commend everyone who was involved. It left me with a conviction that you cannot live life without a strong purpose. One needs to be purpose driven and committed to a life mission that fights against the routine of life. There definitely is an adventure in all of us and this series confirms it. You gotta watch it!
