'Drive' relay race
2 August 2022
Without spoiling anything, I will say the first 1/3 of the movie was fantastic. (I can't help but notice how similar it appears to Gosling's other performance in 'Drive' with the super talented stunt driver turning to a trashy mechanic and a life of crime in order to take care of a girl and her son. ) The tension and characters really had me interested and Luke's character was beautifully created.

Then we get to the second half of the movie and the entire thing fell flat. I felt like my movie was interrupted by a commercial break. You slowly gain sympathy for the characters and situation but everything is much more drawn out and not completely necessary.

Moving towards the end of the movie, we start to pick up some momentum and the plot becomes interesting again but the ending scene falls flat to me and I wish there was a bit more spark.

I really feel like Gosling's performance carried this movie, but hats off to production and Cianfrance for taking some creative risks with this story. I definitely was not expecting the major plot twist but I think things went downhill after that. Even with that, there is still heart, especially if you have your mind on family.

Not a movie i'll probably watch again, but one I will be thinking about for awhile.

Dune (2021)

Another Win for Villeneuve
25 November 2021
I have never read the books or watched the older adaptations, but Dune is a beautiful movie. Denis Villeneuve always gives visually stunning and chromatic films and Dune very is easy on the eyes.

The first half of the film is definitely the weakest to me. Plenty of events were happening but it did not feel like there was an advancement in the plot. I think the opening monologue was a bit cliche as well. As the film progressed it became more and more interesting.

As far as the cast, Villeneuve hit the jackpot. I was very impressed with the acting of the characters and Timothée Chalamet brought Paul to life.

I also commend Dune for being raw and exciting without being vulgar. It goes to show you don't need cursing and nudity to convey emotion. This was a great move for Villeneuve, as it made Dune have an extremely broad audience.

A film everyone can enjoy- I know I did!

Neal Caffrey Saved the Day

This show started with probably the best pilots I've ever watched- hands down a perfect introduction. As for the rest of the show, it's alright. Overall there is a very interesting dynamic, but it feels like it's mixed with a Hallmark comedy. Corny moments aside, the charming characters (and actors) keep the show rolling. I never thought such a light hearted, almost innocent show would prove so entertaining.

There is a bit of realistic questionable events at first, but this show is quite enjoyable and quickly becomes less tacky. While I was a little skeptical that it would be your average detective show, I was proven wrong by this outstanding series. I was not expecting such a dark show with so many psychological demons rising from the fascinating characters that you can sympathize with- all interwoven in this thrilling warped plot. I can't wait for the premiere!

Hollywood-ized
28 November 2019
This footage could be interesting if the narration did not try to make the series a drama. The videos of seemingly the same animals are clearly completely different locations and animals that are passed as one climactic scene. Particularly, the "same" young zebra has different patterns throughout one scene. It is obvious the videos are patched to fit the scenario and the constant overdramatic narrative that is completely emotionally drawn brings no educational experience. Also, the actual events are censored, as any fatality is blacked out as the screen then shows a dead body of the aftermath. Documentaries of these animals is supposed to be raw. Are some events violent? Yes because that is how nature works. Stop trying to twist what actually happens to appeal to viewers interest.

The Best Adaptation

I was skeptical going into a Netflix comic series, but I quickly fell in love with the show and fantastic cast. The Punisher (which is not the best for younger audiences) has heart, gore, suspense, and entertainment. I appreciate the woven plots, although the complexity drops in the second season which makes it less interesting. A continuation would be great as long as the originality doesn't get watered down like so many longer-season shows.

"Out-of-this-world amazing"??

This film is incredibly overrated. The pacing is heart wrenchingly slow and the movie is fairly dull. The "ending" being woven in was the only dynamic part of the plot.

Underrated
25 August 2018
One of my favorites, for all ages. This film really expands Thor. The character development is great, making him more relatable due to time on Earth. The lightheartedness of the movie and the film overall was a bold and unique move. Taika Waititi really brought this movie together and redeemed Thor. Ragnorak was vital for Thor's unleashing of his full potential. Allowing the actors to improvise and bring out themselves through the characters made all the difference as well. The storyline blends in nicely and it explains so much, and catches everyone up. It doesn't feel like an unnecessary add on. We had Loki on the Throne from The Dark World, which was a problem that needed to be addressed. We have a missing Thor and Hulk in Civil War, which needed to be explained, and of course Thanos had to start somewhere. The whole movie fits in so nicely to the MCU Another thing I just have to point out is the CGI and visuals of this movie are spot on, down to the smallest detail. Even Hulk looked so much like Mark Ruffalo. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the humor was a little to much at parts. We didn't really need to see Thor scream like a little girl. Yet all the laughs kept me going through Infinity War, as if Marvel knew we needed something to cheer us up before the next Avengers. Team Thor!

Not too Original
19 April 2018
Make no mistake, the humor in this film was quite amusing, and Guy Pearce's character was the center of attention. The movie seemed to lack a very well developed storyline, as there was only one thing to the movie- save the president's daughter. Therefor, it is predictable, although there are a few 'twists'. Also there is not much backstory or depth to the characters, and the viewers just learn as they go.The audience doesn't know a lot about how, what, why, and when everything with 'the case' happened. Although the action right off the back was gripping, there was no dimension. And for being set in the future with space prisons- the world didn't look too evolved- especially getting to see the inside of the hotel room.

Most powerful Movie I Ever Watched
16 March 2018
This movie is so moving and is an absolute must- see. The whole movie theatre was in tears from this touching story. So many messages of forgiveness, hope, inspiration, family, etc are shown, and you are sure to cry. This movie has changed my entire perspective on MercyMe's I Can Only Imagine, and it breathes life into the lyrics of the song. Grab some tissues and friends and go see it now! Your spirit will thank you.
