Lady Ballers (2023)
The main problem with this movies isn't political, it's that it's not funny
As in the title, the main problem with this movie is that it's just not funny, regardless of your political feelings. Those who rate this highly are forcing themselves to laugh because they align with it politically and don't like trans people, not because they care to look into how the law actually works. The acting was obviously very bad, and most of the jokes were too. Those who are rating it poorly are both people who don't align with it politically, but also 100% of honest reviewers who look past the childish point of the movie and try to judge it honestly. It's just bad at the end of the day, period. I guess it does make for a good detection mechanism for a certain kind of person - just look who rates this over a 4/10 and you will know something about that person with absolute certainty.
House of Hammer (2022)
Documentary that destroys its own credibility
Their "star witness" who got by far more screentime than anyone else, including those key people who were actually sexually abused, really confused me. The majority of what she said seemed to paint Armie in a really good light - but then she mentioned 2 events where she seemed to regret consenting to them later and wouldn't elaborate on the details. That's the person who the majority of this documentary interviews. One of the events she essentially provided zero details about ("It was the kind of thing where normally you would talk about doing it first - and we didn't talk about it, but I don't want to put it out there or get more into it than that."), and the second event was him tying her up with ropes (with her consent), but then she appears in hindsight to have decided she didn't like that.
It seemed almost gross that Courtney Vucekovich got all the screentime and played this horrible victim when she was virtually the least victim of everyone (including Armie) in the documentary. The fact that she actually met with Casey Hammer on camera (someone I believe to be a real sexual abuse victim and someone who endured infinitely more horrors than Courtney ever will) just seemed wrong.
Then we have the guy who worked with Armie who never showed his face which seemed crazy because all these women are being brave and he... bought you a lap dance and it made you uncomfortable? It honestly felt like "we aren't going to be able to make anything stick to this guy, let's at least finish the smear campaign."
Part of me thinks this documentary was meta-gamed by the Hammer family to make Armie Hammer look good and look like the victim, because if it was not, it is a travesty and an insult to any of his alleged victims. There was a really interesting story about his family and great grandfather, but it was confusing when he was looped in as "the worst of them all" and everything else was just used to try to pile onto him.
I really hope he is a monster, because this probably has ruined him. At the end of the day there is a really good Hammer family documentary story in here, it just focused on the wrong people (both wrong Hammer and wrong "victims.")
The Pacific (2010)
An insult compared to Band of Brothers
I'm not sure exactly how they managed to blow such an important story and part of history this badly. Poor casting and acting paired with high expectations from Band of Brothers created a situations where this just had no chance of success. The casting/acting creates a scenario where you are more prone to laughing during a serious/tragic moment for a character rather than feeling for them or being sold/pulled in on them.
For this one, they really should have stuck to a more similar playbook from BoB and not made the decisions they did which resulted in a difficult-to-take-seriously experience.
Black Adam (2022)
If you like watching CG worth a lot of money but dont like acting or story, this is fine
Absolutely terrible cringe-level acting on almost all major characters. Dwayne was probably the best overall, but that's not saying much and still it felt like his heart wasn't in it.
The tornado girl and giant man were just.. I don't even know the words to properly capture how absolutely poorly they acted. I was embarrassed for them - not their characters, like the real people IRL. I felt palpable, tangible embarrassment on their behalf every time they spoke in the movie. They will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.
CG was standard hollywood tier CG, but nothing special. So there's that.
Turning Red (2022)
This is the worst addition to Pixar yet
This movie has fallen to the level of "Only good for keeping your kids busy for a couple of hours while you take a nap."
It has no substance. No deeper meanings. It doesn't make you think. Is it at least entertaining? Worth a few chuckles, but they really push the obnoxiousness and hyperactivity aimed directly at entertaining young children over creating a story or characters with any depth.
This one was incredibly disappointing and seemed more like a run of the mill DIsney movie than a Pixar film. Let me feeling really let down.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
This movie was the worst, most cringeworthy waste of a good story I have ever seen
Please don't waste your time with this one. This movie was the worst, most cringeworthy waste of a good story I have ever seen.
The Case for Christ (2017)
An utter joke
This movie is a sad attempt to try to legitimize the idea of a god without any facts whatsoever, using emotions and ignorance as arguments in their stead. It's almost more like a comedy or parody to those who have the ability to reason.
Movies like this confirm that modern religion is (finally) in its death throes. This is desperation at this point - desperation to get some sort of mainstream momentum in favor of the belief in a god.
