The Mandalorian (2019)
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Season one was terrific. It basically rips off Wolf & Cub, but the overall theme was a fun, sci-fi Western. The cast was amazing and it shows what happens when everything converges including the writing and directing. 10/10
Season two was still good, but less so. The direction of the show begins to become more uncertain in the writing and this reflects in the overall show itself. The acting is still quite good. And most of the cast is quite terrific as well. Why Gina Carano was removed from the show, I'll never know. Overall, still watchable. 8/10
Season three is where the show begins having issues. It no longer becomes about Mando and instead begins following Katee Sackhoff. Sackhoff is a terrific supporting actress because she brings a deep emotional presence to the stage in all of her roles, however she can't seem to pull off the main lead very well. Whether this stems from the director themselves, or the poor writing for the season I'll leave that up to others to debate. The story itself begins to become more fan fiction than a genuine Star Wars plot, and this is due to the high amounts of fan service. The loss of the actual lead (what people come to watch) is a concerning new trend among such shows as The Witcher (season three). Why the writers tend to go in this direction is beyond me, but there seems to be a focus on relatively unimportant characters over the actual protagonist. If this is the case, please just end the show and create a spin-off for those characters. The rule here should be "If I create a spin-off and it would lead to lots of viewers dropping off, should I transition the main protagonist to a character that most people don't really care about?" If the answer is no, you probably shouldn't do it. 5/10.
Kung Fu (2021)
Fun, light show
If you are expecting a remake of the original Kung Fu, you will be disappointed. This has a mostly Asian cast, not white, and honestly it should be that way considering the name. For me, it was a weekly guilty pleasure while it aired. It had the same lightness as White Collar and I enjoyed that. Not to mention there are some serious hotties on the show. ;)
I have no idea why all of the reviews are so poor. I gave it a 10/10, but it's most likely a 7, I just wanted to counteract some of the negative reviews. It definitely doesn't deserve anything below 5.
The show is fun and light. You can tell the cast has a great time making it! There are lots of fun scenes with good humour, and some really touching emotional ones. It's a shame people had to hate on it so hard. If you can't stand it you should just pass it by.
