Sherlock Holmes (2009)
Sherlock Holmes: From Novel to Big Screen!
I like English director Guy Ritchie for his stylish presentation and Sherlock Holmes is no different. Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original theme, this new film gives you fresh feeling about world's greatest detective ever lived (in people's heart!).
Being an American, Robert Downey Jr. performed the role of Holmes superbly, except some accent related glitches. And, not to mention, the way Jude Law presented Dr. Watson, it simply gives you a feeling that this pair arrived directly from the novels. People often dislike books turning into films as it significantly changes original characters' appeal. However, this movie, perhaps an exception as being a book-version lover, I liked the film-version no less.
I rated it 8 on 10 but would probably add an extra half if the length of the movie was a little shorter. Happy viewing!
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
A movie that everyone must watch
I was sitting at the very back row of Cineworld, Dublin screen nine and struggling with my tears. I thought it would be extremely embarrassing if people see tears in my eyes. But I was so wrong! The lady sitting beside me was crying like anything. Finally we ended up with the move and it started showing casts on its black screen. But, not a single person moved from his seat or probably lost their (including myself) power to move. The only sound I heard was the sound of people's emotion. Guy sitting one row before me hugged his girlfriend who were crying like a little kid. The guy himself was also in tear. I saw a girl from Cineworld cleaning staff with horrifying red eyes. Everyone was spellbound there!
I am talking about the movie THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS, unexpectedly a too good movie. I didn't have a single clue about the movie itself and just tried to explore something new. Fortunately or unfortunately, Bruno (main cast of the movie), a young 8-years old kid who love to explore new world explored too much for us that made us all cry while leaving the cinema. I just don't want to spoil your entertainment by giving hints about the story. Rather, I would suggest you to watch the movie and discover some critical facts that sometime we forget in this heartless world.
THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS, a movie from an Irish writer and an English director; everyone must watch. If you tell me to rate, I would say, 1 to 10 scale is not enough to rate this movie. We better keep it above rating!
Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets (2005)
A 50-50 Film
It is really tough to understand actually what the hell the Director and the Storywriter tried to prove! To be very honest, at first it attracts me a lot. But, at the end when I got to see that there is no story at all, I was about to slap myself.
Starting was awesome, specially the way they give the intro of each person and gradually they went down and finally became a trash.
Songs are OK, cinematography is also cool. But a film deserves a story which was totally missing.
In Bangladesh we always expect good and classical Hindi films. Karan Johor or Yash Raj films have set up a level and we hope other director will try to touch or cross that level. To do so, they will have to stop making this types of films.
