The Trust: A Game of Greed (2024)
Interesting premise, but vile women contestants
I thought the idea was intriguing, but something went very very wrong in the casting, specifically with the women. The one woman I thought was a nutter with the non-binary plant, ended up being the most sane of the lot. The rest of the women are truly some of the most vile, entitled, victims I have ever seen. The african-american woman with the short hair is actually from Nigeria as a child. She gets angry that people refer to her as being African, but she literally wears ear rings and necklaces in the shape of African, not Nigeria. The other young woman who looks a little hispanic, is a perfect example of the entitled 20 somethings running around. On top of being perpetually in need of validation. None of these women have any sense of honor to them, it's disgusting to watch them.
I only made it through 2 episodes, I don't know if I can watch more. These people suck.
Beacon 23 (2023)
It literally doesn't go anywhere
I was just disappointed. I'm desperate for good SciFi, and I enjoyed Silo. US TV shows are adopting these short seasons like UK TV has had for ages, but they are still pacing them as though they have 25 episodes to work with. We only get the barest hint of where this show might go. I got so bored watching it that I had to keep rewinding to see what I had missed.
I never read the books, so I don't know how faithful of an adaptation this is, but just about nothing happens other than we manage to get a little LGBT agenda thrown in for no particular reason.
This really isn't worth watching until or unless, there is a season 2, and the second season totally kicks ass and then you need to know the background, but otherwise, I wouldn't spend the time.
The Oath (2023)
Darin Scott needed someone to tell him "no"
I'm directing this at the creator, director, producer, lead actor Darin Scott, because he will clearly read these. I wanted to like this, I was telling all my friends to go see it, then I saw it. Other reviewers have been spot on with their negative assessments, so I'll try to be constructive as well.
1. Darin, it's nice you got into shape for this movie, but apparently the whole movie is just a glamor shot for you.
2. What's with the girl bosses? The sisters don't make sense as characters, and terrible actors.
3. What was the point of having another language spoke a little bit? The ones that speak the Nephite language don't have an accent, except for Billy Zane, who sounds like Mr. Krabs
4. The soundtrack. OMG. It's well done, but it is relentless, it never stops, it's this somber, overbearing sonic landscape that never gives you a break.
5. This story had almost zero to do with Moroni other than burying the plates.
6. Darin, your acting is one note. You use pregnant pauses and slomo for effect. You don't use it constantly.
7. The editing is weird as hell. Things just jump back and forth with no connection. Like, what's with the black dog? That didn't make sense.
8. Training montage? Really? Come on dude. I guess you needed to show the breath holding training to support your escape later, but I think you just want people to see you in a speedo.
Anyone interested in Mormonism, do NOT see this movie. It won't teach you anything. The story is total fiction. This looks like a high school film project. It might have worked as a 15-20 minute short, but if I'd been watching this at home instead of spending $30 at the theater, we would have turned it off. My wife flat out fell asleep and I almost did.
Do better.
Suspicion (2022)
Great till the end
This was so interesting, a little hard to follow, but really had you guessing and then the final episode just ruins it all with a ridiculous motivation that doesn't match anything that has been going on and makes zero sense. Truly one of the worst endings to an interesting show.
They managed to write a lot of interesting characters and weave a very complex plot line together with all sorts of twists and turns, although Uma being named as ambassador to the UK hardly seemed like something that would be controversial. Everyone knows these ambassador jobs are just payback to donors and the UK would be a pretty plum job. It wouldn't have taken much extra effot to make this pay off better.
Under the Banner of Heaven (2022)
Just bad and wrong on so many levels
Now, I know the kid that got this movie made is a former member of the LDS church, but I didn't pay much attention to any of that prior to watching this. Then after watching it and thinking "wow, it seems like no one involved actually knows anything about the LDS church" I read some interviews. Yep, the former member, based on his own statements, either didn't remember anything he learned in church, or is a pathalogical liar. Then, turns out there was no member of the LDS church that was even used as a consultant. No one involved in the movie even went to one church meeting to see what it was like, they just all trusted the ex-member with an axe to grind to give them the truth. So that is all a pre-amble to say that this show tries REALLY hard to make the LDS church seem like a violent cult. It's disgusting, and it is wrong and everyone involved should be ashamed.
Santa Inc. (2021)
I guess they didn't have a test audience?
I was only able to get through half of the first episode. It is so bad, so thoroughly bad, I don't understand who the target was for this. Generally I like Rogen and Silverman, but something got broken in their brains to think this was good. They are just entirely out of touch with "normal" people.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Good Ones (2021)
This was beyond horrible
This was my favorite show, I'd belly laugh constantly, so what the heck happened? They fit every ridiculous bit of woke talking points into it as possible. There was nothing funny about it. AT ALL. All the white people are bad, and/or, dancing around apologizing to the POC for anything and everything. It was dated, bad, unfunny, and something was really odd about the audio. I thought they were going to make a joke of woke culture, but they didn't, it just kept going.
