Beatriz at Dinner (2017)
A worthy movie worth watching
First, an excellent cast has no trouble drawing you into this complex drama. This is probably Selma Hayek's most reserved and mature role to date. She and Jonh Lithgowh's character are at the center of this good vs. evil semi-political-class drama. The remaining cast bolster's the upper-class pseudo "everything is fabulous" attitude vis a vis Hayek's Holistic earth-mother Beatriz.
I was captivated from the beginning to the conclusion of the film will which will surprise you.
Wakefield (2016)
For mature movie watchers
No, this movie is not like watching paint dry, it is about watching a person drop out and tune into the petty and superficial aspects of the self. Rather it's a "nervous breakdown" or not Cranston does wonders with his physiognomy and gait. No, this is not an action movie or a RomCom, but a study in character and psychology does require patience, as does sipping a good glass of wine, no need to gulp, enjoy the moments, the good and the bad.
Shot Caller (2017)
Great film as prison films go.
First, I have to commend Nikolaj Coaster‑Waldau in choosing this gritty role, and he does a fine job. Supporting cast is also excellent. I totally disagree with another reviewer that this film falls flat. It grabbed my attention to the end, with intelligent acting and a realistic portrayal of prison life, even if it has certain derivative components. The only other film that compares qualitatively is the French film "A Prophet," which I highly recommend.
