Dune (2021)

Dull and Confusing
3 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this film but found it too drawn out and confusing when it didn't need to be. I didn't understand who the real enemies here were.

I felt the characters were somewhat lifeless and dull with the exception of Jason Momoas character, and I didn't feel anything for them going to fight or dying. I also felt no one felt remorse for Oscar Isaacs character and this needed to be a bigger event in the film.

What a will say is that the SFX team did an amazing job on this film.

I watched Dune to see if I enjoyed it so that I could watch part 2. Safe to say I won't be watching part 2.

Room for Improvement
31 July 2022
The Black Phone wasn't a bad film but there was much room for improvement. Overall, there weren't enough aspects of the story to keep me interested. All characters lacked back story, I felt no connection to them throughout the film. I didn't find myself rooting for the main character trying to escape or find myself interested in the Grabber as there was no clear reason behind his killings. I know some are 'just' serial killers but I wanted more. I wanted to know why the Killer played games with his captors, his backstory and his reasoning for targeting children.

I ultimately found that there was some big potential here but the film missed the mark. It was a shame as Ethan Hawke and Madeleine McGraw were excellent.

Excellent Easy Watch Film
10 April 2022
There was the correct amount of violence and comedy that really made the film excellent. Definitely not one taken too seriously but an easy watch that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Good film - Watch and Judge for Yourself
26 February 2022
As with all films, I watch and judge for myself regardless of rating. This film exceeded expectations, was well acted and suspenseful. Go ahead and watch this film and judge for yourself.

Excellent Disaster Film
7 January 2022
This is an excellent disaster film. The FX were better than expected too. Don't listen to the reviews on this one, make your own judgement after watching the film.

Dull and unimaginative
31 December 2021
I found the film to be dull with plot points remaining unexplained at the end of the film. The characters were not likeable which left me with little care for what was to happen/happened to characters.

Dull and
31 December 2021
Unfortunately, the film was dull and unimaginative. There were plot points that were not even explained by the end of the film leaving the film feeling unfinished. The characters had little about them, leading little care to be had for what happened to the characters.

Excellent Series Overall
13 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent series overall. I enjoyed all seasons though was disappointed by season 4 (Flesh and Blood). I found the ending very disappointing and found the plot became convoluted with too many side-plots. The 'games' seemed pretty pointless until the end as people were being killed outside of the games meaning they couldn't participate anyway.

Exceptional Show
23 September 2021
I went into this showing not knowing what the expect and I was hooked from the start. Amazingly written, the show takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The show really makes you question what is moral and wonder how you would react if this was to happen in the real world.

All characters were interesting with the show allowing us to see all sides of the characters. Gemma Chan's performance was specifically fantastic throughout.

Disappointing Sequel
21 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Disappointing sequel compared to the first instalment. I found I was rooting for the zombies due to how unlikeable the younger cast were. It was laughable how a certain zombie managed to survive multiple situations and reappear throughout the film right alongside the survivors.

An Entertaining Film Overall
3 July 2021
An entertaining film overall, that unfortunately lacked tension and scare. I found the music was all over the place which made it difficult to know how the film was supposed to make you feel. I'm not sure the director knew what genre of film they wanted to make.

A lot of people seem angry that there is a varied cast & LGBT, however, I can't say I've seen many slashers/ horrors with LGBT cast so kudos to the writers.

Overall, this is an entertaining slasher for viewers not seeking much depth. I hope the next instalment contains the scares, tension and depth that this film lacked.

Entertaining, but not much depth
22 May 2021
If you're looking for entertainment with some comedy, this film would be great for you. I felt the film lacked some depth that would have made this a much better watch.

The Mist (2017– )

Interesting To Begin With But Falls Short
20 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Mist starts off interesting and pulls you in to a world suddenly hit by this mysterious mist. Unfortunately the episodes are dragged out when they begin focusing on plots that become mundane and the mist itself becomes more of a side plot. The mist becomes powerless to the main cast, and only seems to affect cast members who don't have main roles in the series which made a lot of scenes predictable. I will say that the first few episodes had promise, though the series as a whole, as well as the ending was disappointing.
