One Day at a Time (2017)
neoliberal nonsense
When I saw that episode about Che Guevara, I was quite offended. Che was not a mass murderer. He was a liberator. The people he "killed" were combatants he met in the field of battle. For a person to say that he was a murderer, they would also have to say that George Washington was a murderer too because he basically did the same thing. This TV show is just another propaganda piece for the right wing Cuban American community- better known as the Miami Mafia- to spew their anti-working class rhetoric.
Naked Lunch (1991)
should've include facts about WSB' life
The way I reacted when I first saw this movie is pretty much the same when I first read the book: I didn't quite get it but there was something there that compelled me to watch/read on. The style of both film and book is absurdist/surrealist. It's like it made sense but at the same time didn't. But, when I saw a documentary about the life of William s. Burroughs there were certain aspects about his life that provided "cheat codes" to understanding Naked Lunch; it's about a man who experimented with so many drugs (that he was the first layman American to discover Ayahuasca before any other did) that he loses his hold on reality and accidentally kills his lover through a William Tell reenactment while living in Mexico City. He then escapes justice by escaping to a place called "interzone" which is actually a place in North Africa that was an International zone because it was a disputed territory after WW2. In the end he ends up in a place called "Annexia" which is actually the prison he ends up in for the murder he committed in Mexico. Great stuff.
Rain Without Thunder (1992)
a very important film
Any right wing woman who is against abortion should be tied to a chair, have her eyelids taped back and made to watch this movie.
Wasp Network (2019)
this is for all you rightwing scumbags
The Cuban government is not oppressive: Oppressive governments don't teach the poor literacy. Oppressive governments don't arm the people to defend against foreign invasion. Oppressive governments don't provide free medical care to its population. Oppressive governments don't ration the food products among the people. Oppressive governments don't cut off diplomatic ties with Israel over the mistreatment of Palestinians. Oppressive governments don't organize teams of doctors to go and provide free medical care to the poor in third world countries. If Cuba is oppressive, then it is the strangest dictatorship there is
Dark/Web (2019)
Lovecraft anyone?
I could've sworn I heard the word "Meskatanic" in the first episode. Also, the logo that represented the rideshare service had seeming tentacles. What's going on here? I am not against Lovecraft's work. It's just that the other reviewers don't seem to see that. To be fair though, I didn't exactly read each one: I used my laptop's "find a word" tool thing to find terms related to all things Cthulu mythos. I didn't find any hits. But if any of you did, my apologies.
