El laberinto del fauno (2006)
O Faun mio
Honestly I didn't enjoy this movie nearly as much as I thought I would. I think the movie is more so a war drama than a fantasy. I wish the film's name reflected that. Much of the movie was boring and too tragic for me. Even the fantasy scenes can be depressing. I can't say anything good about the film's dominant elements, because this is a genre I simply don't enjoy. It's also long. It's length is about two hours. I thought the scene with the pale man would be longer, as I've been led to believe by others.
I would say the film is well made, and the visuals are quite nice. I wouldn't recommend this film to any lovers of fantasy. I would recommend it if you like war dramas and seeing good guys die.
Psycho (1960)
Greatest movie with a 10 minute scene about cleaning a bathroom
I greatly enjoyed the film. I can see why this is seen as a classic.
The movie has an unusual pace. The first half of the film has a different subject than the second half. And the first 30 minutes don't contain the real subject. I would count this as a flaw usually, but the movie still works. Psycho is often labelled as a slasher, but this movie is much more sophisticated and subtle. It is interesting that this movie contains themes of psychology that were contemporary at the time, but now would seem outdated and silly. I'd recommend the film to anyone.
Ma vie de Courgette (2016)
A tale of joy
Great movie. Awesome. I thought this movie would be sad, but it's not sad. The only sad part is the beginning. The movie has a lot of heart without being tragic or sad. You just get to see the main character interact with the other characters and grow into a better life. The only flaw is the film has a rosy depiction of orphanages, when orphanages are not nice places in any way.
