Silverado (1985)
They don't make them like this anymore...
This is the type of western that you can rewatch several times and find something new --not only is the cast of the chart, but the acting, the dialogue, the humor, the good writing makes it an outstanding movie.
The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005)
One star for Participation
This movie is so bad, it's unwatchable. The actors can't act. The script is amazingly sub-par, and the only way you can give any rating "stars" is for showing up aka attendance/participation ribbon.
Craith (2018)
It isn't hidden...
Crime Noir it's not.
It isn't hidden when we know from the very beginning who was the culprit.
What it is -- it's boring, wasted opportunities in favor of fillers and ambiance.
I love crime mysteries, and I favor Nordic crime noirs. But nothing in this waste of time series (which could have been resolved in 2 episodes) is characteristic of what makes a good crime series.
How It Ends (2018)
Meh...
This is basically a movie that could, but it couldn't.
It shied away from deepening the conflicting relationship between Whitacker and James. It also shies away from the supposedly apocalyptic happenings in favor of giving a glimpse without putting too much effort in favor of giving ambiance and scenery which I can get in any car ride. It also shied away from an ending...how it ends is boring, disappointing and left us completely indifferent in regards to plot or characters. Oh well, next! It's Netflix.
Silent Witness (1996)
More Soap Opera than CSI
I adore Brit Crime series, but alas, this is not one of them. The crime procedural takes a back seat to preachiness, to dramatic, soap opera theme which has the actors acting more as police or soldiers, or cage fighters or whatever the themes of that episode is. Moreso, the episodes could have a massacre or a horrible crime, but it didn't matter because it was about central character dramatic, emotional feelings, and not about the crime. "It's all about me" is quite central and true in this series. I went from liking Emilia Fox to despising her entirely. Skip this one. There's too many exceptional, Brit crime series to watch this waste of time.
Wind River (2017)
Excellent acting
From the moment it starts to the moment it ends, this movie is jam-packed with non-stop action. I don't complain about the action, and definitely not about the acting which is superb --but I would have loved if they had fleshed-out this worthy story fully and better.
What drives this story, though, it's the landscape which is a character in itself, and the excellent acting by Jeremy Renner and Olsen. In fact, Renner's acting was worthy of a nomination, but then again, what the hell do I know?
Belonging (2004)
Maybe dated...
There's some fine acting in this little made-for-tv movie. But that doesn't redeem the story which seems quite dated. I just watched it on AcornTV, and the story left me sad and depressed. No thank you. I believe the reaction that any woman would have today would be quite different. We've come a long way from martyrdom, especially when combined with a husband's infidelity, taking the long-suffering wife for granted that though he left for greener pastures, she'd be the one to take care of his elderly family. Oh hell no.
Kill Ratio (2016)
Not one single redeeming feature
This movie is ridiculously bad. If at least it were funny or a spoof, then maybe I could say "at least, they tried," but no, not even that. You can feel your brain cells dying as you watch the most illogical characters, illogical actions, illogical dialogue, illogical script, coupled with the worst acting I've seen in a long while.
No Offence (2015)
Utter Crap
I love my Brit series. This one not so much. I did not find it funny or thrilling. In fact, the only thing I felt was pure annoyance as my brain cells died for the stupid situations involved. It's childish, and not entertaining one bit which pains me to say since the Brit Comedy series tend to shine.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
A Waste of good talent
I so wanted to see this movie. Ideally, it would hit all my spots since murder mysteries are my favorite genre --regretfully, this movie didn't pan out. I have no clue how can a director waste such good talent in what amounted to a bad movie, and that includes the miscasting of Kenneth Branagh as Poirot. That wasn't acting. He made a caricature of my beloved Poirot. Merde!
The Good Doctor (2017)
Freddie Highmore
I used to think that the new crop of actors didn't have much to offer, but then along came Freddie Highmore and taught me differently. This young actor is definitely, carrying this, at times, implausible series. He is charismatic and extremely watchable. Every week he brings a new nuance to the character without making a caricature out of it. Amazing.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
The Amazing Viola Davis
Forget about the nonsensical plot, and gratuitous fillers, the 4 points that I gave to this series are exclusively for the incredible Viola Davis who is the only thing that makes this series watchable.
Rosemary & Thyme (2003)
Delightful, light mysteries
This series is what I would call "light mysteries" not to be taken too seriously, but the chemistry between the actresses is so much fun it makes it addictive and a must watch entertainment. I enjoyed the whole series very much.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
Past the expiration date...
I used to adore SVU, watched it religiously, but regretfully this series should have retired gracefully instead of giving us endlessly telenovela illogical plots, based on emotions and nothing to do with the law. Law and Order it certainly isn't.
