Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka (2023)
A great peace of art leaves various interpretations
What an amazing movie! I just came home from watching it in the theatre, and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to watch a master peace in the cinema nowadays - I often feel like the best movies were made before the 2020s - but this one definitely makes the list of best animated movies of all time!
Besides having an absolutely beautiful animation and music, I love to see how many different takes there is on what it is really about! I don't believe any of us are "right". Maybe there are many ways in which it can be understood. I see this movie as a clear metaphor for war and how to deal with it. War is understood both as the physical war, like the Second World War that is happening in this period, but also war as in "inner war" within yourself. The boy lost his mother and didn't have any time to really heal from that. He is quickly pushed into another everyday life where everyone acts like he didn't loose his mom or that they are not impacted by it, except for the boy.
The movie highlights the theme of life and death. There is a continuously ecosystem happening. A life is taken in some way and another is given. All of the "bad guys" the boy meets, they also have a purpose and life. They may do harm but often the intention isn't the harm itself, but a need they have based on their issues. The entire fantasy world is a representation of the under world and of war. All of the different "bird species" are just like humans who are from different nationalities (different races). They all seek power.
I could continue for days. Watch it! I love it.
Harry & Meghan (2022)
Finally we get to hear their story
This documentary is so important and necessary in today's society. The power of the media and tabloids have become too much. People believe anything they read no matter the sources credibility.
History is only repeating itself until somebody does something different, which Harry and Meghan finally have. From their perspective I believe it's a necessity to tell the world why they left and the real story behind everything. Who better to explain their life and experiences than themselves?
I hope this documentary shows some of the haters out there what awful impact planting disgusting seats actually have. I hope that someone working for tabloid news watch it and feel bad. I hope that some paparazzi out there sees it and sleeps bad every night and that all of these people change their ways. I hope that all the people who read tabloid news and clickbait's will stop for a minute and ask themselves "do I know for sure that this is true? Do I really care about this? How would I feel if this story was about me?".
The royal institution is toxic which not only Harry and Megan has showed, but also the series The crown as well as the beloved Lady Diana.
All of the critical and hateful reviews on this documentary hurts me to see. To actually write a review that continues the dreadful behavior the series points out is heartbreaking. How can some people learn so little?
The Royals are being painted as figures or characters in a play with no feelings. But they are all humans.
I hope and pray for Harry and Meghan that after this series they can live a better life knowing they've told their side of the story. Now the world can take it or leave it, but at least they had a chance to tell the truth. I wish for them they can live in more peace without being hatefully bothered 24/7 but in stead live like a happy family, like they deserve.
Amsterdam (2022)
I was not entertained
I most admit that this movie was disappointing to me. I had heard many great things about it and promised to watch it. Maybe I had to big expectations, but I honestly wasn't entertained at any moment.
We get into the movie immediately without propped introductions to what it's really about. There are some flashbacks at one point that explains some of the characters past and relations from the war, but I didn't find any of these touching. I felt like I didn't get a chance to establish any relationship with the characters. Therefore I didn't really care about what they did, because I didn't find the characters likeable or unlikeable. Truly didn't have any relation to any of them.
The movie felt too long and I wasn't touched, sad, excited or anything. Sure there was a very pretty scenery of the 30's which was well done. The costume design, lighting and layout was in general very beautiful and well done, but that was all I got from the movie.
It's surprising because I really like the actors in it (basically everyone is in it), but I didn't feel the movie at all.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
An amazing sequel that brings something new
I watched the movie in 3D which definitely fit the movie and influenced my experience of it to the better.
Cameron has done a great job making a sequel without it being something we already have seen. The movie adds multiple new layers of stories and plot lines to get involved in. For instance the character Kiri who has a connection to the great Eywa which is still not explained entirely - leading up to multiple movies.
We see a new side of Pandora with many different kinds of klans and avatars which also gives us magnificent sea creatures to admire as well.
The movie made me touched, laugh and cry!
Overall a very nice experience. I'm looking forward to the third movie and to discover new things of Pandora and the characters.
Cruella (2021)
Best villain origin
A marvelous film that shows alternative story of the old fashioned Cruella, showing her life story from birth - a true villain origin.
Cruella is played perfectly by Emma Stone who gives Cruella a like able touch, while still remaining the well-known madness from the original Cruella de Vil. The combination between Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, who plays the Baroness, is a magnificent match!
The movie in itself will leave you speech less multiple times with plot twist you couldn't foresee 😶 It's touching, but also dark, which is unlike Disney - In general not a typical Disney movie.
I must mention the incredible fashionable custome design by Jenny Beavan! If you are fashion interested, this would be a reason in itself to watch the movie! 👠
Last but not least, the movie has an amazing 70s soundtrack, that will make you turn up the volume immediately 🎵
The Courier (2020)
Truly touching and important
Just came out of the cinema and I must say I was truly surprised!
The movie was beautiful, serious and truly touching.
Not only does it manage to tell you an important story, but it also leaves you with a grateful state of mind and invoke sense of emotion.
I truly support movies that focuses on historical events like this one, that the public might not know too well. Because it is very important to know and appreciate the "smaller" events that had such huge impact.
Besides sharing this part of history with us, The Courier also manages to make the viewer feel present mentally as well as physically, which I found is the most important thing of storytelling.
Citation (2020)
Too long, bad acting, too much irrelevance
The story it's based on is of course important, but the movie in generale is very disappointing. It's way too long, could have been caught down to 1,5 hour instead of 2,5 hours.
Acting was terrible and dialogue was incredible stupid.
