Shoot 'Em Up (2007)
Only action, no story line, having 11 year old boys as a target
The movie is indeed a "pure" action movie. The problem is that everything else seems to be missing. There a very simplified story and that's about it.
The rest: loots of shooting, some original sex scene with shootings and some more shooting in case you missed it.
My assumption is that the movie is good for either tired people as they need to see something while cooking or without actually thinking of a plot (kinda have to also ignore the bad acting). But it will be a killer in the 10-12 year old boys "market" as it has all the action you would need.
Oh well, I guess it beats watching something on the TV, but just barely.
This is a movie I would buy if it were in the bargain bin as a DVD or get for free as a TV release, nothing more.
Shrek the Third (2007)
Shrek the Turd is plain awful
Shrek the Turd resembles a bit with Happily never after, in trying to re-write the classic fairy tales. But boy, does it get everything wrong.
It's much more "family"-oriented and has almost no jokes. Also, in standard Hollywood style, they mix every possible story that was ever written.
Did you ever saw a Xena episode for example ? Well, Xena was alive when Jesus lived, also fought the Mount Olympus gods and probably there's an episode with Xena and Alien versus Predator. It's one ugly kitchen sink.
And this is what Shrek the Turd is. A kitchen sink of whatever they could think of, with almost nothing funny.
The animation is rather good, but what's the point of having something look realistic (like prince charming) or interesting (special effects) if you can't laugh.
The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse (2005)
You really have to like these things
The movie is just plain awful from the start. I assume you have to be a fan of some previous movie-series in order to watch this movie. Other than that, as a first-time-viewer it's rubbish.
In the first minutes of the movie, tricked by the "league of gentlemen's" name you expect something more of the "invisible man" nature. Only to find some stupid jokes about some "brown fish" in the toiler and such.
It just seems to display an absurd situation without any finality. For somebody that just wants to see a movie, this could prove to be a bad choice. Not quite your normal evening-movie.
I don't see humour in this, just plain stupidity (and there's more if you have the nerve to watch it).
