Rain Without Thunder (1992)
Great futuristic docudrama about an abortion-free future.
It's 2042 and female prisoners in an American prison are being interviewed by reporters regarding their crime of having illegally terminated their pregnancies. What comes out, in essence, broadly covers the entire spectrum of the abortion debate, albeit it is clear that the apparent intent of the filmmakers was to produce a chilling picture of what would happen if indeed abortion was once again re-criminalized. Being personally against abortion, I didn't quite get the kind of feeling they apparently were trying to induce. But regardless of how you feel about abortion, if you are at all interested in the subject you should find this presentation quite stimulating.
Alexander (2004)
The best motion picture depiction of Alexander I have ever seen!
I simply cannot understand the low reviews so many have given this monumental motion picture. I think all the actors in it acquitted themselves well, and frankly I think Val Kilmer's depiction of Phillip was the best acting performance of his career. All the actors gave stellar performances, in my opinion.
I just only just saw the movie for the first time on the ION channel this week, and don't know how I had missed it earlier on.
I think it was simply the most historically accurate of any based on what I have read about the life, career and exploits of Alexander. Simply a great historical masterpiece and so I simply cannot comprehend the many low reviews. My best advice is to see it and judge for yourself.
Doom (2005)
The movie was too short and underfunded.
IMO, there was nothing wrong with the acting or the gradual buildup of suspense, but rather that just as it was getting good, they decided on that rather abrupt, spoiler ending! I'm certain that if the movie had a $100 million dollar budget,it could have been made as good as any sci-fi thriller - such as Aliens. But it is also true, that because the "story line" in such genres is essentially similar, i.e., going from room to room to search and destroy the monster, it is clear that Doom couldn't add much of anything new to it. Perhaps if they had had the budget, and more story time, they could have included some of the more exotic scenarios and monsters, and a more powerful ending. BUt I guess on their limited budget, and relying mainly on a very limited audience of "Doomers" who will just go see it out of curiosity, it was probably all they could afford to do. It wasn't that the movie was "bad," but just that there wasn't enough money and time to make it much better.
