iCarly (2007)
IAm Nostalgic
I used to watch this show as a kid back when it first came out. I instantly fell in love with the cute, lightheartedness of it. The show had an innocent and refreshing charm to it, not to mention it was pretty ahead of its time. We see a young girl and her friends coming of age while navigating the challenges of middle/high school, all while slowly garnering fame with their weekly webshow. The characters were funny and adorable. Sadly, I fell off watching it for awhile because I just wasn't a fan of the newer seasons. The jokes started becoming much more corny, which would have been forgiveable if the newer episodes weren't so mean-spirited. Freddie was the butt of every one of Sam's jokes, and Carly would never defend him, most likely in an effort to keep the peace. In fact, she herself began to get rather mouthy especially with her older brother who served as her guardian. She and Sam both became quite tempermental and combative to the point where it just became a chore to sit through their banter. Gibby was a total goofball, but I personally preferred him as a supporting character rather than a main character. He was just sort of "there" in the last few seasons as a main character, it seems. Wasn't a fan of his schtick or his humor and find him to be rather annoying. T-Bo, however, is hilarious.
Now that this show is on Paramount+, I've found myself binge watching it on my lunch breaks. I can safely say that I can stomach the newer episodes a little more than I could back as a teen, but I still prefer seasons 1-3.
Judge Judy (1996)
No longer a fair judge
I began watching Judge Judy when I was young in the early 2000s and I remember really looking up to her as a judge and as a person. My mother was a legal secretary and was always fond of the way she handled cases back then. She was firm but fair and occasionally rose her voice, but it was nothing compared to the present. Now, she is cynical from the moment the litigants take the stand. She immediately catches an attitude before they even explain themselves. And when they do, she'll continually cut them off and won't let them get a word in edgewise. Sometimes she will ask a question, and the second the person opens their mouth to respond, she'll shout "JUST A SECOND!" and continue with her ceaseless babble. She seems to want to reach the verdict as quickly as she possibly can, often by rushing along the cases and having a rather biased opinion. Her attitude toward every single person that walks in with a case leaves very much to be desired. There's a difference between being a tough judge and being a bully.
