Dune (2021)

CGI visuals just aren't my thing unless there's some strong characters and solid acting to compliment. This movie is pop fanfare--nothing else. It completely misses the mark.

Rocky V (1990)

Rocky 5 is a great addition to the series. Stallone actually showed some acting chops especially when he first starts training Tommy. You can really feel his excitement. The scene at the old gym is a tear jerker. The street fight is just what we needed. I'm glad they didn't take the easy route and have Rocky train and fight in the ring again. A creative and entertaining movie for any fan of Rocky!!

Cats (2019)

CATastrophic but proof that there's hope for us all

What actually just happened???? This could really go down in history as the worst musical adaptation ever made. I LOVE musicals and have performed in many. Cats has always been one of my favorites. This was a total embarrassment. The singing, dancing, acting, sets, camera angles, costumes, and music--all miserably bad. I was so excited to see a modern take on one of my favorites. A cartoon version would have been better. I thought Cat in the Hat would be the worst cat movie of all time. We have a new winner!! The only saving grace is that I signed on to write a review and got to read all the hilarious comments :-) This is PROOF that we all can agree no matter what race, color, age, or sexual orientation. My faith in humanity is restored!!

This is a show I was excited for because I have lived in or near Chicago most my life. Sadly the writers must not, because this could be any random city. There is nothing about this show that feels like Chicago. I like the story thread around Kevin and his circle, but again they could be anywhere. Season 3 has a totally different feel and it's going downhill fast. I will grind out the season and probably bail. UPDATE please turn this trash off and stop feeding the propaganda.

Watching this in 2020 really makes me miss the mountains. This movie is a gift. Slow down and appreciate the emotion and history that is captured in this film.

This movie just plain sucked. Hulk was reduced to a dumbass with a hangover. The 1 liners just keep coming in this movie. Problem is I wanted to see a good story. I actually liked the first 2 Thor movies. WTF happened?? Why are superheroes all comedians now?

There are countless things about this trilogy that just plain sucked, but the worst decision in hollywood history is that they never reunited Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewy. I would have even settled for Luke and Han. These three movies fumbled around like dumb and dumber with no on screen chemistry or original ideas. Ok there were a few original ideas and they were all horrible. How do they rock it with Rogue One and then screw this up so bad?? First Game of Thrones bites the dust and then this happened. Last Jedi really pissed me off, and this movie just made me laugh.

Joker (I) (2019)

I would have gone crazy watching this garbage in a theater. I give it 5 stars for the acting of Joaquin alone. Nothing in this movie is believable, yet it's framed in reality. It was really slow and agonizing to watch. It got better towards the end, but even less believable at the same time. I don't get the "masterpiece" reviews. This was at best a fictional psych study that played on our current state of isolation and intolerance as a society.

Passengers (I) (2016)

Sci Fantastic

This is a very well produced Sci Fi movie that kept me thinking. I was very engaged throughout the movie. I was also pleasantly surprised by the acting chops of both J Law and CP. They had real chemistry in the movie. The visual and audio production in this film are second to none. I thoroughly enjoyed it and even liked the storybook ending.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

I was hoping that Endgame would be an intelligent and fun conclusion to the Avengers saga. I was sadly disappointed. The "Hulk professor" was ridiculous. The fat Thor was totally stupid. It took almost 2 hours for anything of significance to happen. The story was contrived and lazy. If I wanted a trip down memory lane I would have re-watched earlier movies. The whole Captain Marvel thing didn't work at all. Infinity War was awesome. Endgame felt like watching the last 20 minutes of Return of the King for 3 hours. If you're not a super hero geek then this movie is just plain boring and silly. The only reason to see this is to spend time with your family.

Grease 2 (1982)

I really loved this movie as a kid, and the older I get the more I appreciate the music and dance. The songs are memorable, and the characters are cool :-) BTW what happened to Zmed???? Grease 2 will take you back to school. Anyone who was in high school before technology ruled the world will smile while watching.

A Star Is Born (2018)

Lost interest half way through

The movie is good for about 45 minutes. The second half is very boring and over-dramatic. It was agonizing to sit through. Should have seen Bohemian Rhapsody but my lady wanted to see this. She also thought it sucked!! Sad to see Gaga waste her time on this I really like her.

Mayans M.C. (2018–2023)

The show is ok. The characters have some depth and are remotely interesting. The Mexico/USA connection is something to build on. The main character looks too much like a Latin Jax. The biggest problem I have with the show is that it's not what SoA fans want. I know there are loose plans for a First Nine series. It was a big mistake to put that off. The First Nine would have been much better and would allow for a much stronger connection to SoA. I'll be surprised if Mayans is renewed for a 2nd season, which is a shame because that will likely kill the franchise. I'm not interested in a Jaxtino show.

Six (2017–2018)

I really liked the show season 1 with Walton Goggins. After that it has gone downhill fast. The show does still make me think, but the show needs more insight into seal training and brotherhood. The teenage girl stuff seems a bit hollywood (especially the girl who is being recruited).

I'm getting tired of the new trend where season 1 of a show will feature a prominent actor, and then they try to have a bunch of unknowns carry the show.

The Shape of Water (2017)

Remember that silly movie that put Daryl Hannah on the map? Swap the mermaid for fishead and we have a modern version of a 30 year old Tom Hanks movie. Visually this was an interesting movie, but the story went awry when fishead and mute girl float into a dancing delight in black and white. The end is all too predictable and the romance didn't grab me. Fishead does have some cool facial features and expressions, but this is not enough too redeem the last 45 minutes of the film. I know it's a fantasy and I'll not nitpick all the impossibilities of this movie. The bottom line is that here was so much more potential with this story.

Dangerous Deception

I work in a high school. The biggest problem I see with this show is that it takes the most extreme and difficult situations and presents them as "everyday". Portraying suicide as a revenge and escape is both dangerous and false. Netflix is very irresponsible in the way they handled this. Every expert that they consulted advised against many of the details in the show. Anything for a buck--even if it results in more deaths. Don't try telling me that the show will spark good conversation about teen suicide. For those struggling with mental health and especially depression, shows like this promote negativity and self doubt. There should be an option on Netflix to block content. The show has already been banned in some places.
