Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun (2020)
The Best Sketch Comedy Show of the 2010's
This is the best piece of art I saw in all of 2020. I get if you don't like this, but if you don't like this you're boring and stupid and I don't want to be friends with you. This is so fun and lively and the humor is literal perfection. The funniest thing I've seen in YEARS, and endlessly rewatchable. Please support this.
Watchmen (2009)
This movie is good, but has problems. Many, many problems.
Watchmen is good. It's undeniably good. However, there are many things that keep this film from being great. These are those reasons.
Firstly, Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach is fantastic. He gives one of the best performances in a comic book movie, such as Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Hugh Jackman as Logan, and Heath Ledger as The Joker. He is a very dark, mysterious, layered character. He is great. His character development is done so well that when he is eliminated by Dr. Manhattan, it makes you sad. He is missed(for a very short time since the movie quickly ends after).
Jeffery Dean Morgan as The Comedian is also really good. He is very good at playing a terrible person. The Comedian is a terrible, terrible person. He is very good at doing so. He does some pretty awful things. I assume, based on the flashbacks after these events, that he becomes a better person. Even though he is does very, very bad things, he is still somehow likable. He knows that superheroes are going out of culture and people are starting to revolt against them. The Comedian bluntly states this to Ozymandias, and gives this message to Night Owl during the aftermath of a "we need the cops, not superheroes" rally. The Comedian overall is pretty cool. Jeffery Dean Morgan is great.
Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl is good for what he's given. He is the average nice guy who just wants to help. He is like if Superman didn't have any powers and wore Batman's costume. He doesn't much stand out, he's just good.
Matthew Goode as Ozymandias isn't great. He's a bit bland. He doesn't really give the same amount of emotion that the comic gives him. Overall, Matthew Goode is fine. Not as good as Patrick Wilson, but not as bad as Malin Ackerman.
Malin Ackerman as Silk Spectre II is just terrible. She seems like a nice person, but she is just bland and makes me cringe. Her acting is terrible. That's all I want to say about her.
Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan is pretty good. He gives a very monotone performance that is perfect for his character.
Carla Gugino as Silk Spectre I is okay. An old whore. Nothing much. Stephan McHattie as Hollis Mason(the first Nite Owl) is also fine.
So my ranking of the performances go like this: 1. Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach 2. Jeffery Dean Morgan as The Comedian 3. Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan 4. Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl 5. Matthew Goode as Ozymandias 6. Malin Ackerman as Silk Spectre II
The plot is split into many different sections. My ranking and explanation is as follows: 1. Rorschach's Investigation 2. The Comedian Flashbacks 3. Dr. Manhattan's Trip To Mars 4. Tie - Ozymandias' Plan/Laurie and Dan's Love
Rorschach's Investigations are extremely interesting and cool to watch, especially since Rorschach is the best character.
The Comedian Flashbacks are nice to look at how every character remembers the likable piece of crap that was The Comedian.
Dr. Manhattan's trip to Mars isn't very plot relevant but still gives some nice imagery and some insight into Manhattan's inner sorrow.
The tie is due to these things: Plot vs Story. Ozymandias' Plan is more plot relevant but Laurie and Dan's Love is more story driven. They both aren't great, they're just fine.
My biggest problem with this movie is the comic it is based on and Zack Snyder's directing. An unpopular opinion is that the comic book graphic novel, Watchmen, is not very good. It is a averagely drawn and terribly (as least character wise) written. I think it isn't great. The movie is much better. However, Zack Snyder tried making a perfect adaptation of the comic book, that he does a pretty poor job. At least at perfectly adapting it. If Zack only took plot, character, and some iconic images from the comic and disregarded everything else, this movie could have been great.
Overall, this is a good movie with a lot of problems. I very much enjoyed watching the film. I even have a handmade Rorschach costume. I'll give this movie a 7/10.
I Am Heath Ledger (2017)
Just Great
I Am Heath Ledger is a great movie. It is just great. The movie has Heath Ledger's family members and friends tell their experience with Heath and his life. The film is heartwarming and sad at the same time. It goes from Heath's family talking about his experience making films such as The Patriot, Brokeback Mountain, and The Dark Knight, and his joy making them, to the sadness throughout the time of his death within their family and around the world. It is a great film. It made me cry. If you are a fan of Heath Ledger and his work, definitely check this one out. 10/10.
