Little House on the Prairie: The Race (1976)
Goofs run wild in the race!
This episode was really a part two of the previous "Bunny" Any episode starring Nellie and Harriet is a must watch...There was a nice mix of suspense and humor that make this a strong episode...
I noticed a few goofs.....for one. Notice when Nellie is crying in her bedroom...in the background there is a flower pattern on the wallpaper. The next scene shift to Nels and Harriet's bedroom...its the exact room....same wallpaper but different furniture arrangement
Second, when Harriet is test riding the horse in Sleepy Eye....the rider is obviously a stunt double...pretty clear.
Last, when Nellie is showing Laura the silver bowl/trophy you can see the crew in the reflection..
Also not sure why the Olsen's would allow Nellie back on a horse only days after recovering from her injury ....especially to enter a race....
Overall, an entertaining episode with lots of charm! Anytime Laura can put Nellie in her place...is a good thing!
Little House on the Prairie: Bunny (1976)
Fantastic!!
This episode would have kicked off season three better than "The Collection".and is ranked as one of my all time favorite episodes. This episode has some interesting facts....
1. Lots of scenes filmed on location....gave the episode a authentic look as opposed to in the studio..
2. Carrie seems to have disappeared???
3. The rider on the horse is clearly not Nellie.....looks much older
4. Why did Charles allow Laura to help Nellie with
homework...you would think he would be much more skeptical by now
of Nellie's intentions *talking machine etc
5. How could Doc Baker not pinpoint (no pun) that Nellie hadn't
recovered..
Overall, any episode with Nellie and Laura in the forefront is a must see. We really get to see how manipulative Nellie is on a large scale...The story had a great mix of tension and humor and is one that stands out as one of the best.....The wheelchair scene is one of the top 5 moments in Little House history!!!
Top 5 moments......1. Pa finding Laura at the top of the Mountain (Lord is my Shepherd) 2. Laura's first kiss (Sweet Sixteen) 3. Blowing up Walnut Grove (final) 4.The star scene in (Christmas at Plum Creek 5. Wheelchair scene (Bunny)
Little House on the Prairie: The Collection (1976)
Unusual Episode to Start the Season
This was an interesting choice for the first episode of the season. The last two seasons followed the same formula. The Ingalls family has a hard ship, and through family unity they overcome...Harvest of Friends and Richest Man in Walnut Grove. This episode doesn't have a kick off feel to it. In fact, this episode could fit in anywhere in the season.....again an odd choice for the season starter.... This episode had some unusual aspects to it...
1. The casting of Cash. I thought was a great choice. His singing throughout was priceless.....and worth the watch 2. Carrie and Mary have more appearances than Laura. In fact, I don't remember Laura in this episode at all 3. The return of E. Sprague (the banker)....nice to see reoccurring characters. The one weakness of the show was characters simply disappearing after being a focus in an episode 4. The town seemed too trusting in Cash's character. I know he was pretending to be a preacher, but for him to just casually collect money from the town etc....seemed a little off
Overall, this was solid episode....I loved having Cash as the lead. He was a natural. His conversation with Alicia about heaven and the puppy was my favorite scene.
Little House on the Prairie: A Matter of Faith (1976)
What can go wrong....GOES WRONG!!
Although I was happy to see Karen Grassle in her own episode, the plot was too unrealistic and fake. The directors/writers of Little House always did a nice job portraying the dangers of living during that time....this seemed a little far-fetched. Yes....someone could get a cut and an infection...but what leads to this particular situation is down right silly.... Ma scratches leg on a wire
1. Charles and the girls go away for a day...leaving mom behind (I get it...could happen)
2. When leaving for the trip, Ma hands Charles the peroxide/anti- infection medicine (hmmm)
3. Doc visits Ma out of the blue and wants Charles to fix a wheel (Ok)
4. At that moment, a town person arrives saying that his son fell out a loft and needs Doc's help? Doc said he would return...(Really?)
5. Doc goes to the house of the injured boy, and is stranded by a sudden storm....while Charles and the girls are fishing and camping and make no mention of the storm
6. A cow gets loose and Ma has to tend to it in the pouring rain which compounds the her problem..... Overall....too far-fetched.....the events just line up too perfectly in a nice hour package....
Little House on the Prairie: The Talking Machine (1976)
Another classic
This was another classic episode that had all the elements! 1. A confrontation between Laura and Nellie 2. Pa's wisdom 3. Some hilarious dialogue between Harriet and Nels....
It was clever how the plot focuses on the talking machine...Nellie uses the machine to woo Jason, and it was used to trick Laura into saying some embarrassing things about her love for Jason. The director did a nice job tying science into the entire episode....very well written
In regards to Pa's wisdom....I love the scenes between Melissa and Michael. So much chemistry and I know the Melissa lacked a father figure in her real life...so this was genuine.
Overall, A great episode with a positive twist at the end. Well done
Little House on the Prairie: Remember Me: Part I (1975)
A must see episode
Written and directed by Michael Landon......this episode will tug on the heart strings......Patricia Neal plays the lead role Mrs. Sanderson (married to Roald Dahl). This veteran actress does a phenomenal job playing a widowed mother who succumbs to illness. A home is needed for her three children before she dies.......Mr. Edwards and Grace oblige.
Overall, this first of two part episodes shows the depth of all the characters involved including Victor French and the cast members...
