Saltburn (2023)
Weird, wonderful and very funny
I didn't know what to expect when I went to see this movie, but absolutely loved it. I was gripped from the beginning. Oliver (Played but the amazingly talented Barry Keoghan) is a shy akward student who meets and is befriended by Felix who is rich, cool and adored by everyone. Felix invites Oliver to his home Saltburn where the family are completely eccentric. Rosamund Pike plays Felix's mother and Richard E Grant plays his father. They are absolutely hilarious. I won't give away any of the story, but what follows is entertaining, funny and downright weird at times. A couple of scenes will have you squirming in your seat but I thought it was one of the best movies of the year. Barry Keoghan deserves to be nominated for so many awards for this performance. He is mesmerising. Some people really don't like this movie which is down to personal taste, but I have already watched it 3 times and loved it every time.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Powerful, beautiful and dark
This film is just so good. I'm a big fan of Martin McDonagh anyway. Have loved all his movies but this is his best work. It is quirky, dark and funny. The cinematography is just stunning. The performances are just brilliant. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are wonderful as always but Barry Keoghan stole the limelight. His performance is stunning. The story is about 2 friends Padraic and Colm. Colm decides one day he doesn't want to be friends with Padraic again. And what follows is funny, sad and just mesmerizing. You are transported back to 1920s Ireland. And you can feel the frustrations of small Island life. Apart from Barry Keoghan, the other scene stealer was Jenny the donkey. Loved this movie and am planning on going back to the cinema to see it a couple more times before it leaves theaters.
PD (2019)
Amazing short film.
Love this so much. The acting, the script are pure perfection. The scene where Thomas cries will break your heart. The turmoil inside Esteban trying to fight this attraction to Thomas. That scene is inspired. And the scene with the history teacher is just brilliant. I'm just sad that a film like this has to be made now to tackle homophobia.
Sense8 (2015)
Brilliant series
I don't know what rock I was hiding under to have only discovered this show recently but I'm so glad I found it eventually. It gripped me from the very beginning. Amazing characters that you really care about, fantastic story and so beautifully shot. It's unlike anything I've seen before but compelling viewing.I can't stop recommending it to everyone I know. Still have a couple of episodes left to see,so I imagine this is going to be a late night. Can't stop watching. Have watched 15 episodes since yesterday! If you haven't seen this show, take my advice and start watching now.
