Accidental Switch (2016)
Formula movie, yet mostly entertaining
Some of the things are ridiculous...watching this mother run all over the city carrying a purse and a suitcase, never once needing to stop to drink water. LOL
Why are cops always so stupid and slow to believe the protagonist? Also, how does a bag come off the luggage carousel and there's not one tag from the airlines that links it to a passenger?
Still, fairly entertaining and fun to watch how crazy this mom is to run all over town. This actress must be a runner, because she certainly got a workout in this movie!
Certainly makes one think about how important it is to make sure we pick up the right bag off the luggage carousel at the airport...and to pay attention when we're pulling our bags.
Long Lost Son (2006)
Worth a watch
True, there are a few plot holes. Someone mentioned how could she get into a country with a birth certificate and license? Well, 15-20 years ago, it was possible. Yes, it's a little absurd to think she'd be traveling with a birth certificate if she supposedly had a passport, she's a terrible liar, and you'd think she would've come prepared with proof that Quinn was in her life previously. However, even with those things, it's entertaining, AND refreshing that this isn't one of those movies where someone gets killed. Enjoyable movie for a weeknight watch, or as you're multitasking as you're on the computer, putting a puzzle together, etc.
Would definitely recommend.
A League of Their Own (1992)
It's in a league of its own!
In my top five favorite movies! We own it on Blu Ray, DVD, and if I come across it on tv I will watch it regardless of what scene it's on in the movie. It's funny, nostalgic, heartwarming, heartbreaking, it has family issues that we can all relate to, it makes you want to be a better person (see how they help Shirley Baker, or how Dottie and Kit stood up for Marla in the beginning), it makes you want to thank every man and woman of the greatest generation, and it makes you want to be a part of something greater than yourself.
This is, hands down, Penny Marshall's best work, and I wish she would've been able to make the prequel that had been discussed. Geena Davis is brilliant in this movie, and I think it's her best role.
I've played softball, and what I wouldn't have given to be able to be a part of this movie. I've heard how much fun all the players had and it truly shows. Madonna was the only one, I've heard, who was a "wet blanket". During one of the games it was 100+ degrees, and all the stars (sans Madonna) took turns entertaining the crowds. Some of the extras decided to impersonate Madonna and sing her songs because she refused to entertain the crowds.
Spoilers...
I don't know if the viewer is supposed to hate Lori Petty's character, Kit, but I haven't met anyone who ends up liking her. Davis "Dottie" coddles her little sister, and "Kit" is a whiney baby most of the movie. I wish there would've been some character development for her. If I had anything negative to say about this movie, that would be it.
Davis and Tom Hanks are genius together. I'm glad Marshall did not listen to the studio and let them talk her into a romance between the two characters. They ended up being strong alpha characters who worked off one another, and their relationship just added to the dynamic of the movie. I liked how they were the only ones who could tell the other things that no one else could say, and yet the other would actually listen (Dottie-"It just got too hard" Jimmy "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it.") By the end of the movie they not only had a friendship, but a strong mutual respect for one another.
End of movie spoiler...
If you have any doubts as to why Dottie drops the ball, take a look at the bonus feature on the Blu-Ray/DVD. There is an entire scene that was cut from the movie and seeing this scene may have you think again as to whether or not Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. In that deleted scene you also see Marla's return (important to the scene).
Family Affair: Take Me Out of the Ballgame (1967)
Watch the vase :)
Always a loving lesson to be learned in the Davis household. I used to wish I had an Uncle Bill. I am in my 60s, and I am now watching my childhood favorite shows with my granddaughter. Such wonderful morals and lessons to be learned from Family Affair, Brady Bunch, Andy Griffith, MASH, Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, etc.
So sad that Anissa Jones (and her brother) succumbed to drugs, and that Brian Keith took his life. From all indications from surviving cast, it was a tight knit group.
Goofs: When Uncle Bill is showing Jody how to swing a stick, he clearly breaks the vase before breaking the lamp, yet when the camera shows the broken lamp, the vase is, once again, intact. Continuity is always an issue on so many shows.
