The Hitman (1991)
On The Road Again!
I like this movie. i first rented it to watch with my girlfriend in about 1992 - she didn't like it for some reason but i was impressed with the change of character by Norris compared to his Texas Ranger, Delta Force movies.
The storyline of someone left for dead only to come back a few years later to even the score with his corrupt partner who tried to kill him is a bit corny and has been done before this movie I'm sure but the coldness of Norris when he blows people away is what makes this watchable, not least when he kicks ass big style in the Iranians' club! However, Canadian mob boss Andre Lecombe's 'minder' is possibly the least likely gangster i have ever seen in a movie and does not convince! The Hit-man is pretty hard to find these days and could be regarded as a collectors item if you're a Chuck Norris fan.
Bloodsport (1988)
Fight To Survive!
I personally rate this as Van Damme's second best movie after A.W.O.L. The soundtrack (composed by Paul Hertzog and also Stan Bush) is top quality and the fight choreography is in parts, breathtaking.
the scene where Dux (Van Damme) 'solarplexes' his Sumo opponent is jaw-dropping to watch - especially when after-wards he follows it up with a move that would be every guys worst nightmare, ha, and a move which has Chong Li worried . . .
What i find interesting about this film is the background of Frank Dux and the dedication he put into his training. Its an inspiring story and is adapted into the film extremely well. I have wondered on occasions however whether Tanaka really did use a hoist as a method of making Dux's legs more supple of whether that was inserted into the story to highlight Jean-Claude Van Dammes talent for doing the splits!
anyway its a great movie so watch it!
Lionheart (1990)
A Champion Fight Film!
Lionheart (or A.W.O.L. - as i tend to refer to it) in my opinion is possibly Van-Dammes best film.... and yeah I'm biased! It has a very decent storyline which is realistic - especially as its set in America and features some well know actors such as Deborah Rennard, Brian Thompson and Harrison Page.
film moments . . . the fight between Gauliter and Sonny is seriously intense and even though I've watched this film on numerous occasions since 1990 it still is a great scene to watch! favorite parts of the movie is where Gaultier is insubordinate to his Commanding Officer and also the bookie at the Attila fight... "One minute to post my friend" great stuff! and for those interested in purchasing a copy Viva Video Inc. have recently released Lionheart on VCD!
