Blue Beetle (2023)
The little hero that couldn't!
Just as I started to enjoy DC hero movies, they drop the ball. Not just "dropped" the ball, they dug a hole, put in a blue box, nailed it shut and sent it to the bottom of the sea! (Sorry AQUAMAN,) It's not even on the same universe.
Don't get me wrong the acting is good, but when George Lopez goes from "Not knowing anything"
to "All of a sudden he knows almost everything." And the plot makes my head hurt. Seriously, I got headache from watching this.
DC was making a universe of NEW superheroes and it was shaping up slowly. "Black Adam" was really interesting, watching the origin of an "anti-hero". The 2nd storyline in the DCU was with the long awaited "Flash" which had cameos by Henry Cavill & Gal Godot. Blue Beetle has to have his whole family to fly the Bug-mobile. I remember in the DC comic, it only needed only 1. They must have paid Susan Sarandon a lot for her role as the Ultra Villain. I even thought she was going to say: "Blue Beetle, I've got you now..hee-hee-hee!
I lost count how many times the Villains have shot Blue Beetle & watch it bounce off him, they shoot him anyway.
Stupidest thing is all end of the movie even grandma is firing a super gun! By the end of this movie, EVERY member is all of a sudden they can shoot all sorts of guns!
After the first set of credits the is a clip. Big wup!
Don't waste your time waiting for the after clips there's only one It makes no sense at all.
SPOILER.... Geoff Johns, Where were you when they showed you the script?
Scavengers Reign (2023)
Beautiful animation, unexpected story
First time watching this, the first thing that brought back was "Fantastic Planet". Both movies & episodes have totally alien landscape, creatures that are explained as you watch them.
I think the hardest part of "Scavenger Reign" is to throw you in the middle of the situation that you never thought existed. Finding out the situation episode by episode was on both, you learned as the movie/episode was watched.
Let's not forget the strange animation Fantastic Planet was cutting edge for the time.
But what makes "Scavenger Reign" break away from the others is the story. You don't get a run of the mill Science Fiction story with a long explaining background story. You learn as they learn. How the creatures all have a purpose that can kill you or help you survive. You also see how the characters get smarter but also how they fall apart.
The animation is clean and they make sense how flying insects that blend into the trees and seems to be a reason for that. Once again, you learn as they learn. This show is Definitely NOT for little kids. Bizarre and beautiful, really incredibly thought out creatures, gorgeous landscape and beats any Disney movie, that's for sure.
Annette (2021)
If you didn't like "All That Jazz" You won't like this either!
Eye opening from the start! Adam Driver is a Lenny Bruce type comic & Marion Cotillard is amazing as his Opera singing wife was mesmerizing. (But as another reviewer said "My wife would turn it off after the opening" Well, Mine would also).
Myself, I love Opera/Musical movies. "La La Land", "All That Jazz" this movie fits right in. Beautifully showing that the genre still appreciated. Some will get it, some won't. The performances are amazing. I can't say more than that. Forget Howard Wollowitz, Simon Helberg's talent as an amazing pianist from "Big Bang Theory" gives an amazing performance as conductor/composer of Marion's opera. It's always great to see his talent in this operetta.
Let's not forget the fantastic music & lyrics from the Ron & Russell Mael. I've been a fan from the first "Kimono My House". Just beautiful meaningful words & music.
Give it a chance and come for the performances, stay for the acting & music.
The Beyond (2017)
Could have been better.
Take out all the political BS and stick to a street sci-fi movie without all the paranoia crap in the middle. But very beautiful to watch visually, I watched it fast forward to through a lot of scenes but always stopped at the visual effect which were beautifully done.
But it's too full of explanations and military paranoia the "we have to strike first!" Bull crap. You really can fast forward without missing much of the plot.
But Gorgeous special effects towards the end, it's ruined again by explanations. Cut that out and you'd have a really great Science Fiction movie.
Sorry about that! Maybe a Directors Edit on DVD?
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Fun movie!
What is wrong with all these people that are rating this movie so low. It's a Thor movie, it's funny! Its Taikai having a good old action/comedy movie. Nobody broke any actors arms to play the parts that they did. It's a great movie to laugh to. Like Joker said in "Dark Knight" "WHY SO SERIOUS?" Laughter really IS the best medicine! Christian Bale doing his impression of Lord Voldamor, The screaming goats and Korg being only a head.
Valkyrie: "GO on my signal"
Korg: "What's the signal?"
Valkyrie: "GO!"
Even though Eternity is in Thor and not Dr. Strange, it still is his 1st appearance, it works. I was hoping to see Adam Warlock...maybe soon.
Old (2021)
An hour too long
Great idea, but when M. Night is your driver going to a "Locked" beach....something is wrong!
Just seeing M. Knight as a van driver sets off a crap load of "DON'T GO THERE" alarms.
It could have been a Twilight zone 1/2 hour show, but it takes over an hour & ?? Minutes too long!
My wife fell asleep and woke up at the last 15mins left and got the whole movie in 10 mins.
Another M. Knight movie that lasts too long to get the idea.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
New Stories, Great writers Amazing actors!
I will admit this, I Love a great sci-fi that is intellectually written and acted. The New "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is Amazing!
Wonderful cast and original intelligent stories go hand in hand. Even if you argue about Capt Pike (& his knowledge of his future), Mr. Spock (incrediblely acted by. Ethan Peck), & a different Kirk (Jack) , you can't help but love this show.
With Star Trek: "S. N. W" & "Discovery" the stories they tell are keeping these series going on for the foreseeable future. (& if you haven't seen Discovery WHY NOT! Start from Season 1 ep.1, and be prepared to enjoy!
The Djinn (2021)
Swing & a miss!
I am a huge fan of horror/monster/psychological movies and I found that watching this movie was so slow moving that I forgot what started out as.
This movie said "Let's put a a kid who can't talk and build a movie around that!"
Add to this the Kid gets fixed by a loved one getting killed.
Predictable Yes
Worst part....they left the movie open ended.
Don't care, this is so bad that there is ABSOLUTELY NO BODY WANTS TO SEE A SEQUEL!
Truckin' Man (1975)
Wow! Doodles Weaver (enough said)
So bad...REALLY, So Really Bad! Saying Doodles Weaver as co-Star? This copy is so bad that it looks like fireflies are are trying to burn this film. SPOILERS...It's really so horrible that I couldn't even finish watching it on "Riff Tracks". Enough to say that the commercials were so much better than the movie I was watching. If you really wanna torture somebody that is a film buff, yeah and you have to show them this movie.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
Patients my friends!
Bad reviews, not a great thing to put out one on a new show. It's only the 2nd episode folks! Give it time.
Best thing was to see Jeremy Renner walk into an guns & ammo store and being shown that an arrow would take out a bear, take it out later and use it (missing the target) try to chase a raccoon and miss! A little joke that Mr. Renner also plays "Hawkeye" in the Avengers....and "Hawkeye" premiers on Disney+ in 2 weeks. Don't listen to the haters, watch it and judge for yourself!
Halloween Kills (2021)
Glad I didn't pay for it
I watch Peacock for wrestling and if I had the choice I'd watch wrestling. How many times do we have to watch a movie that is exactly what it is. No surprises, No reason WHY, and it left an opening for "Hopefully" it will end.
Can't go into the plot (as is) but I fell asleep for most of it.
Intersect (2020)
Horrible & Confusing
Time slows down while you watch this disaster of a movie. Then again, being a movie about theTime Machine, the editor sure as hell does a lot of jumping this story. Starts in the future, then Jumps to the past, then the near past and then future or the past future, past past back in time and.....you get the point. Great idea, but there's too much backstory. A guy is dead, then he's at the machine, dies and next scene we're in the way way past. Very confusing movie.
I want the Time Machine to go back and get my 97 minutes of my life back!
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Not Bad!
Don't dismiss this as a cheap horror story. "Blood Red Sky" adds a nice twist on vampire movies. The twist being skyjackers vs Vampire. Who do you root for? Yes, you have your psycho-killer within the skyjackers and your "little kid" hostage scene but there is a twist to this movie.
Don't compare it to "The Strain". Yes, it's kind of the same idea, but "The Strain" was amazing. And this movie was Pretty O. K. This adds a new idea for this genre.
If your looking for a pretty good horror movie with some unexpected surprises, this is a good one.
Super Capers: The Origins of Ed and the Missing Bullion (2008)
Can't give it Zero stars?
I'd give this movie zero stars but you just CAN'T and still rate it. I lost 1:34 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. It try's to be "Deadpool" before the movie "Deadpool" was made. I wonder why would any studio give money to make this movie. Horrible movie, and a waste of a lot of good actors (Michael Rooker, Tiny Lister (R. I. P.))
Atypical (2017)
What a Great Show!
My wife and I started watching "Atypical" after a friend said "I am having a Paige Meltdown", when I asked "What?", she told me about ATYPICAL and after seeing who Paige was, we were hooked.
Sam (the central character) has autism and we follow him as he grows from high school to college. We have teared up several times watching, especially Sam's graduation, and we actually felt proud of Sam. All because of how good Keir Gilchrist is.
This is one of those shows that pull all the heartstrings. Funny, touching, loving and Why Hasn't Keir Gilchrist & Brigette Lundy-Paine (his brutally honest & understanding sister) been nominated for Emmy Awards? They make the whole show!
The entire cast, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sams mother and Michael Rapaport, his Dad, show the incredible job that parents do to help their Autistic son grow.
This is a Wonderful series about how an autistic boy (Sam) can mature without all the horrible things that movies usually exploit. This is heartwarming series, and a "Must See" show!
Cobra Kai (2018)
Great Series, Great Acting & Really Corny music!
This series is a great way to relive the past and see how Johnny & Daniel have grown up. Daniel is a successful Car dealer while Johnny is down & out failing at his job. Enter a bullied kid next door neighbor Miguel, that Johnny decides to teach Karate and bingo, Cobra Kai is reborn.
Is this series predictable? YES!
Is it Boring? NOT AT ALL!
It's a "Past meets Present" show & you have to suspend all thought of reality.
Never any adults around to stop fights, no security guards around to stop fights in the mall & no teachers around when a fight breaks out in school even though it takes place with hundreds of students following it all over.
Sansei Kreese comes back & You even get to see Johnny's old teen gang as adults.
The show asks you to suspend reality a lot!
But the acting is superb! Everyone in the cast is Wonderful!
The best part is that each episode is 30 minutes!
The only bad part is the music that is pretty corny.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Great Movie, but too Slow!
So close to the book. But it takes a long time to gather steam, and the fact that Chapter 2 was released a year later, People Forget!
In the time Chapter 1 took to get going you were hooked. But 365 days later Chapt 2 takes just as long to get up to speed. I think 6 months THEN release Chapt 2. You may think Chapt 2 is all adult stars, but the kids in Chapt 1 really shine through and add more in Chapt 2.
This is a Really great adaptation of the book to movie without a doubt. (and let's try to forget the TV movie) To really appreciate this movie watch Chapt 1, then Chapt 2. I guarantee it'll be worth it!
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
Nothing original!
I really wanted to like this movie, it's just SO predictable. If you blink you miss the "Conjuring" link, but unfortunately it's still predictable. Nothing new. How does the released maniac women know where her case worker lives? And of course, flashlights always run out at the worst time! Has any writers ever pitched a Horror/Supernatural movie involving Jewish people lately? (I think there was one) Ta-da!
So, nothing new, nothing Horrifying, it's all been done before.
Super Cyclone (2012)
Terrible shoddy directing, producing and special effects
I am very surprised that Ming Na Had a part in this movie. There are so many sloppy Aphex the cast is constantly in the sunlight with shadows in the meantime when they show you the sky it's cloudy and there's a Cyclone so one minute on the side of the ship it's dark and they run to the front of the ship and there is pure sunlight you can even see the shadows of everything. I don't know about you but I've never seen shadows when the sky is overcast. Sloppy cutting sloppy editing and these actors should've been smart enough to reject this role when they saw a script. Very disappointing, but it's a lot of fun if you play spot the errors. I wouldn't recommend anybody spend even 15 minutes watching this movie!
The Week Of (2018)
If you love Adam Sandler movies
This is a dark comedy from Sandler. Yes, you could write the script, but it takes talented actors to make it funny. It has a lot of the same old setup, but Sandler and his stable of friends makes this movie hysterical. It's great to see Chris Rock in a low key role is very controlled funny. The action between them is just as funny as in Grownups.
Just sit back and enjoy this and then watch "Murder Mystery" with my love, Jennifer Aniston.
The Nun (2018)
The Nun means NONE
This was a huge waste of time. Like another reviewer says: " Surprise, NUN, Horror, NUN, Story, BAD! The fact that my wife and I (we're lovers of horror) We could have written the dialogue. I'm telling everyone: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!
We are lovers of the Conjuring and had high hopes for this movie......but there was NUN.
Howard the Duck (1986)
Fun, fun, fun movie! Never mind the haters.
What do you get when you mix the acting of a young Tim Robbins, Lea Thompson and Jeffery Jones, mix in the music of Thomas Dolby and a little help from George Lucas, you get a very original movie that helps you laugh all though it.
As you watch this movie, remember that this is Lukas's first try making a movie out of an unbelievable comic. Tim Robbins steals the show. Not far behind him is the great Jeffery Jones and Lea Thompson.
AND it does have the most original Monsters (Dark Overlords) ever conceived.
So sit back and enjoy one of the unanticipated fun movie.
(Look for a cameo of Thomas Dolby as the bartender in the club.)
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Action packed CG meets live actors!
This was a really good, fun, action packed movie. Acting was really good and the cast wasn't wasted. The pace of the movie was very fast from when the Doctor finds a female bot in the scrap yard to her awareness as a young girl/return to life daughter of the Dr.
The best bits were the action packed "Rollerball" type competition and does Ed Skrein ever going to play a good guy?
Alita: Battle Angel delivers a good story. And they hint that this could be Part 1, as they leave you with hint that there's another movie in the making.
Riaru onigokko (2015)
Very open to interpretation, but WOW!
TAG is the most interesting, weird, strange and amazing movies to watch. If you have an open mind, this is the movie to see. I am now on my 5th viewing and it still surprises me every time.
If you are squeamish, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. There is so much blood and special effects you will not like this. It's almost like being on a rollercoaster, it starts slow and picks up a lot of speed, slows down and before you know it, you're in the loop de loop.
The best thing I can say about TAG, is that you are going along you are as much in the dark as the main character. Real surprising ending too. I highly recommend you watch it at least twice. You won't be disappointed!
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
Go in with no expectations and enjoy the fun
When my wife took me to see it, I'll be honest and say there were 3 other movies that I would rather see that were playing. Plus you cannot have hope with a Mila Kunis movie, it's either a big disappointment, or an o.k. I'll wait to see it on TV. Thank god Kate McKinnon was her co-star. She is has a great comic timing and made this movie surprisingly fun.
Watching in a theater in Freehold, NJ, there was a lot of laughs when McKinnon calls her mother in Freehold, NJ. Although Paul Reiser's small role he was great. There are a lot of plot twists and confusion even at the end, but still I was happily surprised. But they should find a movie that Kate McKinnon can take the lead. She has become one of my favorite actresses. If you really want to see her at her best, Ghostbusters role of Egon was spot on!
If you need a good laugh, this movie helps. Funny, quirky and lots of laughs.
