The Amazing Maurice (2022)
hard to do pratchett
I really love terry pratchett novels including this one. The actors provided simple voice characterizations and that decision does not match with the tone or content of the young adult novel. They talk like they're speaking to four year old children but the script is not for that age group. Additionally the design of the scenery and of each character is simplistic. Sorry, but they didn't have the budget to pull this off. As a stand alone movie for someone who hasn't read any pratchett i give this movie a basic 5/10. Habving read all pratchett it's scoring a one out of ten. Like dune which uses internal observations, the movie doesn't pull those off.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
foolish jumble of nonsense & ugh the mustard
What a steaming heap of garbage. The acting was just ok. The script was 50% a kooky pastiche of martial arts films, comic universe action, and vulgar puns that lent no help to the story. The other half took a basic family conflict theme and over-inflated the story so it became permanent victim-status silliness. Vague trite platitudinal dialogue made me so bored. When the first third of the movie ended i was hoping that was the whole move but no, there were two more parts to slog through. I am glad i only spent $5 on my ticket and i don't think this is even something you'd want to rent or watch on tv for free some day. Avoid.
The American Revolution (2019)
all politics
I grew up listening to bcn. So I wanted to watch about the music they played, live studio performances, comedy, djs, etc. Their politics? Meh. Not really interesting after the first 30 minutes.
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002)
Good acting but...
Crummy script so probably a weird novel, it makes no sense. I really wanted to like it because of all the great talent. The old Vivi character is silly, vain and selfish while the young Vivi chacter is troubled. The drugged kidnapping would never happen in real life.
