The Rum Diary (2011)
Depp Delivers
One of Johnny Depp's greatest roles, period. The movies plot follows a journalist whose love for alcohol outweighs his love for work. A wonderfully hilarious story! There were plenty of laugh out loud moments in this well casted movie that takes place in the Caribbean islands.
It (1990)
Made for TV "horror" film
All the hype about people being afraid of clowns and this movie is a laugh and a half. Belongs on satire shows that make fun of such poor movie productions and acting. Some elements of the story are interesting and a little fun but other than that it's a very farfetched telling of a shapeshifter who kills kids in a sewer. Come on...
Not to mention the poor ending that spiraled out of control and lost course of the main story! Worth a shot if you like B movies.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
Subway Heist
First, let me say that this cast is just too notch. Lots of great over the top language that makes you laugh and love the characters even more. It definitely kicks off with a bang about 5 minutes in and then you're hooked! How could four men rob a subway train in a tunnel and get away with the proposed $1 million dollars?
The action never stops and how it's filmed / shot is very fast paced as we flip from the subway to the New York police headquarters very often.
Highly recommend if you are looking for an edgy / fast paced action, comedy, drama!
Four Rooms (1995)
50% great
A bellhop visits four rooms on his first day at a hotel, what could go wrong?
I think the first two rooms were rather dull but then the last ones (Rodriguez and Tarantino) really picked up steam and make me give it an extra star. Your typical over the top language and ridiculous Hollywood effects that make you cry from laughing. The ending was very punctual too and it brings everything full circle which is always a blessing in movies for me!
The Devil's Own (1997)
Not an American story...
Brad Pitt's accent hits the nail on the head for this film. Wonderfully written story behind top notch acting. The casted roles were perfectly put together. If you enjoy a good thriller then this one is for you! Never a dull moment as we race through New York City! A police officer harbors an IRA (Irish Republican Army) runaway without notice of his actual whereabouts...
North by Northwest (1959)
Kickin' off with a Bang!
This Alfred Hitchcock classic thriller kicks off hot and heavy as our main character Roger is mistaken for a Mr. George Kaplan and taken by foreign agents. As you progress through the film more is revealed about why he's been taken. The music is very edgy and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Lots of fantastic "oh wow, no way!" moments throughout. If you want a high strung thriller then this is the one for you! Towards the end it takes a fantastic and unexpected turn...
Meet Joe Black (1998)
Death. Love. Life.
A very young Brad Pitt plays the role of "death" as he happens to fall madly in love with the daughter of the man whom he's supposed to take away from Earth. It's a very long three hour movie but the ending's payoff is very well worth the watch! There's a shorter version out there if you're willing to search for it due in part to airplane viewings when the film first came out. Lots of great undertone humor that highlights Pitt's upcoming acting career. You should enjoy this one if you have a good heart 💓
