Dexter (2006)
Legendary
This character's complexity and evolution through the series is amazing and in my opinion one of the best I've ever experienced apart maybe from Breaking Bad or Mr. Robot. The acting of every actor and writing team is a 10/10. Not a single bad apple. The crimes are horrific and the fact that you can develop a certain sympathy towards a psychopathic serial killer is very strange but extremely well managed. The only criticism is the format of the series which is not cinematic like the series we have now and really has a closed up "old" series format which is the only reason I rated 9/10. Other than that this series's in my top ten of all time best...
Yellowjackets (2021)
Amazing
Not even a single critic I can express. The only remark would be that we wanted to know more before the ending of the season but I guess it's also good to end things leaving space for the next season. Absolutely amazing entertainment and acting. Didn't rate 10/10 only because it's usually not really the type of series I watch. This one is a great exception. Don't hesitate.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Very good but ending disappointing...
Not much to say because this final season is really great. The only deception is that son. All his struggles to reunite with his father who saved his life and this twat ends up killing Dexter? Doesn't quite fit with me. He's clearly a psychopath too and now he's free to go and kill innocent people without any code. I would add the son's acting is weak and disappointing. Could've choose way better to hold up to the level of acting of the exceptional performance by Hall. Apart from that, very nice.
Queen of the South (2016)
Simply great.
I don't usually vote 10/10 but because they ended the show so well I think it deserves it. The storyline is very good and every season is very well managed. The rise of the Queen is gradual and smart. The fact that the show begins with the end is very compelling. They knew from the beginning how they would end it and they did it with class. I love this show and I recommend it to anyone who likes action-thriller-gangster shows. It certainly is driven a certain way and some people might not like it, I enjoyed every bit of it. Goodbye and farewell.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Pantheon.
Simply put in three words: Apex, unprecedented & unparalleled. The only one sharing the throne with Bbad in this genre is The Sopranos. I could go on forever and give you plenty of reasons why but there is no time to waist on talk here. Just watch it and tell me I'm wrong, it won't change the reality of the situation. This show is in my top 5 best series of all time. Enjoy! (Or not... ;)
Chernobyl (2019)
Chef D'oeuvre.
One of the best drama I've ever seen. The acting surpasses without any doubt the best I could've imagine for such an enormity in history. The rest of the set is reciprocally at its best. It is a great snapshot of the URSS just before it's collapse. Explains a lot about the catastrophe itself and the price of ignorance and denial. All these poor victims didn't die because of Chernobyl but because of a rotten state in a rotten system full of rotten people. 33 years later, the world doesn't seem that different and I was born in 1986. Call me cynical, but this is true not only for Communism, it is a feature of humans and a classical pattern in cyclisation. This event is only one in a stack but it certainly resonates louder than most in terms of disgust in what the general human apparatus can produce...
Le Comte de Monte Cristo (1998)
One of the finest French series...
Without any spoilers, this French mini-serie is by far my preferred one. I speak French so I can tell you everything is excellent, the quality of acting, writing, directing, music, "French language at its finest" and so on. The story of Monte-Cristo is a great one. Making a series out of it is bold because of the complexities involved with the story but no disappointment here. Depardieu is at his best and so are the rest of the cast. If you like drama you will love this story, but more importantly, if you love the "Septième art" you will be pleased by this "chef-d'oeuvre"...enjoy!
House of Cards: Chapter 73 (2018)
Lame ending for such a brilliant show...
I think a lot of us knew without the lead actor this last season wouldn't be easy to conclude. The choice to remove him are however totally justified if everything we heard so fare is true. Nevertheless it is clear the character of Frank Underwood was to heavy to write around even though the performances of the actors involved are still excellent. This is the reason why I would suggest anyone who love this show to consider its ending at season 5. One of the point this show makes is how it emphasize the power of women and how Claire doesn't just become Frank Underwood but surpass him in almost every possible way, good and bad. In a sens both of them are one and the same but only one of them will win at any price. The American way was always very men-focused and still is although this age is coming to an end. Powerful man are just so because everything is made and constructed around the false idea that men are naturally more powerful than women. This show is a complex and very clever stand that not only women are naturally stronger than men but have the means to prove it against everything that's trying to block them from achieving they ambitions. This last season was therefore useless, superfluous and highly disappointing. This serie is still a 10/10 to me from s01 to s05. Thanks anyway for this gorgeous show.
