Cold Case: Boy Crazy (2007)
Heartbreaking
This episode forces you to look inward and puts yourself in someone else's shoes. Love is a gift and a curse. If you've ever been different this episode will resonate with you. Go into this episode with an open mind and if you are an empathetic towards those different than you already by the end of this episode you'll have a newfound understanding of what it's like to be different and to have that individuality snuffed out. This is one of my favorite episodes and brings me to tears every time.
Detachment (2011)
A great film for new teachers
The film is good because it touches on what happens when you've reached and passed your peak as an educator. There will be one student who you care for and no matter what you do it could go either way. It's important to note these teachers even the substitute all care about their students but they've been broken down by years of abuse. The main character cares for his students but learns by the end sometimes you have to be willing to go the extra mile to make a difference. The overall theme of the film is perspective means everything. Teachers especially first year teachers need to watch this if for no other reason then to remind themselves that caring does not make you weak. You need to go the extra mile for your students because sometimes you might be the only teach who is willing to. On your worst day you are a students best hope.
Heavyweights (1995)
Who's really the villain?
First off this was a great and entertaining movie. But why exactly is Tony a villain? The original camp counselors run a fat camp where no one looses weight. When a new owner actually wants to help them loose weight he's a villain? Despite the fact that the first thing they do after tony is out is go on a eating binge and most of them gained weight. Yes being happy with yourself is nice but would it have hurt to teach the kids healthy eating habits for more than 5 seconds after going on a food binge. Plus why in the world would a summer camp of fit super elite athletes compete against a fat camp in an ATHLETIC competition. That would be like a cooking camp competing against an astrology camp in a baking contest. Yes I know Tony was extreme but the kids also have no portion control. The kids gained weight while under close watch, what happens when no one is watching?
