The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004)
dusty books and a pile of dusty acting
big budget(ish) and minor stars. felt sorry for bob newheart acting in this drivel must need the money to retire to Florida!. the funny bit's wern't funny. the plot couldn't have been believed even if it were written by god himself on stone tablet. the acting was diabolical especially from kyle mcclachlan, who can actually act he must need the money for his own production or something. noah wyle stank. the hot eye candy was a dog and pathetic at acting. the script and dialogue was awful as were the set pieces.. a total waste of 1 hour 45 minutes.. want the same experience but feel less cheated i suggest you put your head in a gas oven for that length of time but make sure the gas is off first.
Churchill: The Hollywood Years (2004)
Churchill was a rotter this films no better
Christian slater comedy?? aye OK! i'll rent it on DVD and i'm glad i paid 3 quid instead of 6 for watching it in the flicks. This is a steaming pile of utter dung. I watched the first half hour of this film and hated every minute of it. It was excruciating to see Christian Slater act in this dung. The script was dung the acting was excrement.
I didn't know it was a British comedy before i rented it, i now wish i knew beforehand. Peter Richardson writer/director/whatever formerly of the "comic strip presents" knows nothing about comedy. British comedy hasn't been worthwhile since the Boulting brothers and Ealing studios quite easily threw out genuine classics!. In short this film had no direction script stars or anything worthwhile to recommend it. The film should be re-titled "lets get every Z list name from British TV and mug at the camera"...I wouldn't give peter Richardson 10 quid to direct a claims4u advert. Christian Slater you should hang your head in shame!
Tenacious D (1997)
greatest show in the world.
In case you have been in a coma for the last few years and haven't heard of Tenacious D. They are a running joke as the greatest rock band in the world. The joke being they play acoustic rock solely on 2 acoustic guitars. But they really are one of the greatest rock bands in the world. Jack Black has the greatest rock voice since Ian Gillan off Deep Purple fame (check out the original CD of Jesus Christ Superstar, you'll see what i mean).
As for Kyle Gass, he truly is an incredibly talented guitar player as is JB. But KG is up there with paco pina and Julian Bream in my opinion. The short lived HBO Tenacious D episodes now available on The complete masterworks of Tenacious D are a cross between the monkees and Ren and Stimpy. Sheer genius. And on the DVD you get a lot of bang for your bucks.. The episodes. live concert. road footage. skits. and music vids and TV appearances. Ask Santa to bring you it this Xmas, you will not be disappointed!
Scrubs (2001)
one of the best by far
Definitely one of the best comedies churned from the Hollywood machine for years. It's a comedy where you know the cast get on with each other. It has a brilliant writing crew and a very talented cast. There isn't a single drawback or miss-timed response from any of the cast. Maybe thats down to clever editing and retakes, but i don't think it is. It's the stars of the show who make it work. The dialog is smart, sharp with believable plot lines and characters. Nothing is over the top. It may appear surreal, but who hasn't day-dreamed going through the motions of day to day work?.
Actors notable for mention from the show: John C McGinley, Donald Faison,Ken Jenkins and Sam Lloyd as Ted the suicidal depressive hospital litigation lawyer.
8 Simple Rules... for Dating My Teenage Daughter (2002)
1 simple rule...avoid like the plague
8 simple rules has the perfect formula for a good comedy. It stars the very talented and equally likable James Garner John Ritter and Katey Segal. Where it falls flat is by trying to interweave social commentary with bland plots. It's overwhelmingly schmaltzy at times and doesn't hit hard enough with the obvious punchline. It is overall a family comedy, but even family comedies such as home improvement do have a harder edge than 8 simple rules. Who want's to see a comedy where the whole family cries as the eldest daughter portrays Anne Frank in a school play. More interplay between CJ and grandpa is what's needed for this comedy. They should have their own show with added swearing!. I do think James Garner and David spade are wasted on 8 simple rules. As for the blonde chick there's always porno to fall back on.
Hope & Faith (2003)
i laughed so hard my sides split.....NOT!!!!!!
Hope and Faith..is by far one of the worst comedies ever made. It's a mish mash of mistaken identity, wrong place wrong time etc.. scenarios. None of which could ever happen in real life. As for the main character "Faith" nobody in reality could be that self centered and shallow. The cast and writers absolutely stink perhaps they would be better suited to taking part in kids puppet shows because thats the height of the talent employed in creating this sordid excuse for comedy.
I can't think of an episode that was even remotely funny. The worst episodes were the ones about the funeral and the court case. The recipe for good comedy is to have talented actors, writers and story lines with some presence in reality. This is something the producers failed to grasp.
Mad About You (1992)
mad about you, putrid vomit
I hate this show. It's badly written acted and has totally stupid story lines intertwined with the cutesy factor. Dogs are not cute! no offense to helen hunt(snarf). Most of the script is contrived from how many times can they throw the word honey or sweetie into the dialog. Paul Reiser is not a good actor, Helen Hunt is nauseating. As for the rest of the main cast, never before have i seen such one dimensional acting. Paul Kind as good an actor as he is this comedy wastes whatever talent he has.
Check out the episode where Murray the dog becomes a star after appearing in a TV advert, then you'll see exactly what i'm talking about. there is one good thing about this show on DVD. the discs could be used as tea coasters or shiny hangy type objects to keep oneself occupied in the winter time
