Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives. (2022)
Missed Asking Hard Questions
Very disappointing. I find it impossible to believe that this woman Sarma, could go along with this jerk. "I'm gonna make your dog immortal?" I never tried that as a pick-up line, but based on this nonsense, I guess I should have. Beautiful. Strikingly gorgeous IMHO, very well educated, from a good family, very successful etc and she falls for this shlub? Can't buy it. Why didn't her family call the cops? Why did she keep giving him money? Why didn't any friends, co-workers DO SOMETHING? In the end, not an iota of remorse for all the money taken from others who gave it in good faith! Dreaming of one day opening another restaurant, but not dreaming of a way to pay back those friends and family she helped to defraud? Why weren't the prison terms longer?
A Man Called Otto (2022)
We Loved It
Saw this earlier today with my wife. She read the book, I did not. Neither of us saw the Swedish film. I never listen to critics. Some canned this film and others not so much, but it seems like they are always trying to be "unique" in their opinions, rather than to just let us know if the film "got ya." This one got us both. The film is heartwarming and uplifting, brought some tears and some laughs too. Otto and his grief; camouflaged by grumpiness is just hankering for escape back to some semblance of happiness and normalcy. Hanks was Hanks as that Otto. The rest of the cast were perfect and Mariana Treviño, was wonderful. For gosh sake. Just enjoy this film. We loved it.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
NOT To Be Missed!
I'm a 65-yr-old tough guy. This flick was absolutely beautiful. Not to be missed. This is no "chick flick." When a film grabs me and gets those tears flowing, if it raises that type of emotion in me, it's a winner. A love story, a murder mystery, a survival story, a naturalist story and a character you root for like she's your favorite team in your favorite sport playing for the championship. Perfectly cast. Nice pace (I read one review that said it was too slow? Nonsense!) This film is near perfect. Congratulations to everyone involved in making it. And no, I did not read the book, but I probably will now.
If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd (2018)
Not To Be Missed
Have watched it 3x already. I love the way the thing is put together and the old film and interviews. Amazing stuff.
USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016)
A Great Watch
I read the reviews of this film and wasn't expecting much. Considering the depth of this story, like other such war films, I was concerned that it would not capture the essence of this incredible event(s). This film did a very good job! I was very pleased with how it captured the story. I thought it was well balanced and did not turn this into another "Jaws." Men of Courage, especially the saga of their Captain is certainly worth the watch. The character development of some of the crew could have been more developed, but considering the volume of these events, I thought there was enough here to give the viewer a solid sense of it's significance. A tragedy in many ways, it also captures the true heroism of this crew.
