Past Lives (2023)
Don't believe the hype
I found this movie to be lovely to look at as far as the cinematography, but that's it. It was boring. I'm talking watching paint dry boring. The dialogue was shallow. The interactions between the two main characters was just a big fat blah.
I don't need a lot of bells and whistles, but this movie just made me feel as though I was wasting my time. I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't. I felt nothing but a desire to walk out of the theater. I don't know what Kool-Aid all of the high raters were drinking, but they definitely had a different experience than the one I had. I want my time back!!!
Shut In (2016)
I thought it was pretty good
I'm not sure why this movie is getting such bad reviews. I actually thought it was pretty good.
I enjoy "psychological thrillers" that keep you guessing, and this movie kept me guessing. I wasn't sure what was real, who was doing what, or exactly how it would end.
I thought the acting was great and that the scenery was lovely.
If anything, it was a little more horror-esque than I really needed, but overall I did not feel as though it was a waste of time or money.
I enjoyed the pacing of the movie and felt that they built up to a good climactic ending. Two thumbs up from me.
RoboCop (2014)
This Movie is VERY underrated!!!! It was GREAT!
First, I must say I saw the first original version back in the day. It was, as everyone knows, an ultra-violent high tech action flick with social commentary to boot. It was good for what it was. However, this reboot was above and beyond what I was expecting or what all the FANBOYS of the first movie were trashing about. I almost did not see it due to the low critic rating.
The script of the movie was so well written, that the next thing I know the big finale was upon me. Plenty of satire and social commentary was included. This movie will having you thinking about corporate domination of politics and in turn society. Also, the emotional aspect of man verses machines. Not to mention the controversy of machine/man interaction.
As far as film quality, I give this movie an 'A'. The special effects were great! The CGI was so advanced, that you'll swear what you see is real. The action was fantastic also! Had you rooting for retribution!
Lastly, all of the main characters were great in their respective roles. I really loved, and could wait for, the "NOVAK REPORT". Samuel L. Jackson was almost the star! However, he wasn't due to everyone else doing a great job in their roles. To me, this is a MUST SEE.
Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)
This a very well done and witty movie!!!
I walked out the theater in a way better mood after seeing this picture! The animation was great (saw it in 3D) and the story was funny and intelligent! The animation is very stylized which makes it even more fun.
They have advanced the old kid's cartoon series to a whole another level. They took the original and built on it with great skill and thought. It's still a kid's movie but is advanced enough for the adults too. Speaking of kids, they may actually learn a thing or two. However, don't think it's a real educational movie. Looking forward to the next installment. Just hope they can keep up the standard.
October Baby (2011)
Very Touching Movie
My husband and I went to see this today. I did not have high expectations, but this movie totally touched my heart.
All of the actors (except for a couple of the smaller characters) gave exceptional performances. Jasmine Guy gave an especially moving performance and really surprised me. Who knew that she was such a strong actress?? The story really makes you think, and I believe that the subject matter was fleshed out in a really authentic, heartfelt way.
I don't know what else to say except that my husband and I both got teary in the movie and that we left the theater feeling good that we spent our money on "October Baby."
I hope that many other people will take a chance and give this movie a try. I'm not sure why people only gave it a 4 1/2 out of 10. I definitely felt that it was an EXCELLENT movie.
The First Grader (2010)
Important film. Not to be missed!
I just saw this movie yesterday, and I felt that it was so well made, so touching, so inspiring, and so important. It is a rare kind of movie that teaches you history, shows you other people's struggles, and moves you emotionally because it captures the strength of the human spirit.
This movie is important because it shows that it is possible to overcome adversity and makes you believe that it is never too late to attain those things that are valuable to you. It also really brings into focus the power and importance of education.
I'm really glad that I saw this movie, and I hope that many other people will go see it as well.
